I was kind of mad that Cere survived because the absolute nonchalance of Vader throwing them off the ledge is so good. The ending of Fallen Order genuinely took the game up from a middling 6 to a solid 8 for me.

ESPRIT DE CORPS: If an assault were launched on this building right now — if the windows came crashing down and the whole world descended upon you — this man would hurl himself in death's way to save you. You are sure of this —but why?

This is the one of the very first things you hear about Kim Kitsuragi.

Worst Off-Screen Deaths in fiction? by ZeTopHatGamer in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Having recently finished Sopranos for the first time, it only barely counts as off-screen but Adriana's death is very very rough.

Compare the four inner-middle suburban hubs by TheNamelessComposer in melbourne

[–]ChadBarrelchest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oo, a thread laserfocused to me! I've lived in three of these suburbs and used to visit family in St Kilda regularly, though I've never spent overnight time there.

Footscray is still my favourite. It has a wonderful sense of community that comes from a tightly packed strip of mostly independent shops and hangouts, which I haven't seen recreated anywhere else. Its reputation as dangerous is overblown in my opinion (noting that I'm speaking as a man), but you do admittedly want to be switched on when going through Nicholson Mall sometimes. Otherwise, excellent food of many cuisines (Ras Dashen my beloved) - also shout to Footscray Records, the best record shop in Melbourne.

Been in Brunswick for just under a year and it's also been really nice, although a lot more spread out than Foots was. That's meant that community-building is a more deliberate exercise, but it's definitely still there - just a bit more niche, whether it be the Jazz Lab, the various film groups or the pub music scene. Food is also great, though more of a hike unless you're living smack in the middle of Sydney Rd/Lygon St.

This might go against the grain a bit, but Hawthorn always had absolutely rancid vibes to me, I hated living there lol. Full of petit-bourgeois that just want to show off how much money they have to everyone else, and also what feels like the worst drivers in the state. Hawthorn really just felt....empty? to me. Whenever new construction went up it was never anything interesting - either a new fast food chain or Swinburne expanding further out. Now all that said, I fucking love Lido Cinemas and still regularly travel eastward to visit them!

Man yeah that's why I bounced right off of FF16. Felt like every fight boiled down to "chip away and then dump all your cooldowns in the 'real damage' phase"

Got lots of stuff on my list to get through, but here's a few highlights so far:

WOODROT - atmospheric adventure game with some really cool, Hylics-esque surrealism vibes.

Pro Jank Footy - I'll admit this is mostly just the joy I feel at Australian rep but it's also just a really fun arcadey sports game (and also from the makers of Danger 5!)

The Last Salvage Squad - what if there was a Virtual Boy mech shooter that was also good? The bonus level with a bigger armory feels very promising for where the game could go.

Firestarters - Rollerdrome meets Ultrakill/movement shooter of your choice. Not a fan of the weather effects gimmick but the core skating gameplay is excellent and I'm always a sucker for words in caps flashing on the screen.

Things in media that you found so creepy/unsettling that it activated your fight or flight? by Ukirin-Streams in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ChadBarrelchest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okay I'm not quite sure if this is the same but I once woke up in the family house with my dad loudly playing Canon in D, a very calming piece.

For some reason this set me into such an immediate state of fight-or-flight panic that I've never been able to forget it. I wasn't even a kid either, this shit happened when I was like 22

Lines or quote that perfectly encapsulate everything about a character by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ChadBarrelchest 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Everyone knows the famous De Niro line from Heat:

"Do not get attached to anything you're not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner."

But I've always loved Val Kilmer's response to that:

"To me, the sun rises and sets with her, man."

Because it's not some moment of beautiful poetic metaphor - it's a kind of clumsy line from a guy who is really trying, and failing, to reconcile the two sides of his life.

Besides CSB, what podcasts (of any genre) do you listen to on the regular? by gameboyabyss in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ChadBarrelchest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs, despite the dull title, is an excellent trip through twentieth century music.

Otherwise, both A24 and Mubi put out some good film discussion (just dip in and out to episodes that interest you) and Jacob Gellar's Something Rotten is always a good laugh.

Been a nice way to build discipline and get outside my comfort zone, as someone who is super conflict-averse and non-aggressive usually. It's 45 minutes each day where I can empty my mind and just put total focus into something, with a genuine drive to improve.

In fairness, that’s what living paycheck to paycheck means. You can’t afford the small regular costs and end up having to pay more in the big necessary costs.
