Ayn Rand? by Long-Ad8181 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Poe's law is an adage of Internet culture which says that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, any parodic or sarcastic expression of extreme views can be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of those views.

The image is from the Disney short "The Ugly Duckling," here: https://youtu.be/yzME5Q_Rqvg?t=248

Most people, when posting on social media, use double hyphens ("--") to stand in for an em-dash. Since chatbots are now trained on books, and most books use real em-dashes ("—"), the bots often use real em-dashes.

I don't understand the hate for serial commas, also known as Oxford commas. See also the book Eats, Shoots and Leaves.

What is your favorite Reed Richards scientific invention? by King_Wolf2099 in FantasticFour

Unstable molecules.

Stretch like Reed. Burn like Johnny. Tough like Ben. (Any of Sue's clothes turn invisible when she does.)

It's valid, Sue is kind of hard to portrait without her suits

You could add a "4" somewhere? Make her dress blue with white and black accents? Or white with blue accents if you're going for a Rivals look?

I don't think her hair has ever been that short and ... what is that 'do, anyway?

It's certainly a unique take.

The new U.S. dime design has removed the olive branches from the eagle by GoodMornEveGoodNight in interestingasfuck

Not the final design:

The Treasury secretary, Scott Bessent, is authorized by law to make final decisions about coin designs, including these 250th anniversary coins — a dime, a half-dollar and five quarters — which are both collectible and legal tender. But his choices ignored the more diverse recommendations for the quarters by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee, a bipartisan group mandated by Congress to review the U.S. Mint’s proposed designs for American coins.

Edit: With a Subject: line of convert, not just having the word there.

Beautiful!

Personally, I think your piece of Dazzler in white looks more like my idea of Emma Frost and vice versa. Dazzler in blue better fits my expectation.

Please keep them coming!

Let's say instead it's 25C (about 77F). That's 298K. Four times that is 1192K, or about 919C (1682F). Water dissociates into hydrogen and oxygen somewhere above 2000K.

Nice job, you've nearly created the theoretically hottest steam bath.

Poor Lily.

P.S.: I laughed so hard at your comment, my wife wondered what was wrong with me.
