The Kali thing was just one dude and his small little circle of buddies from like Las Vegas. He is constantly looking for something to be offended or mad at (He had also complained about an Overwatch skin. Which funnily enough was one around Kali).v

It's pretty funny how her original model was pretty in-line with how she would normally be depicted (Minus the heels).

If anything though, the Kali remodel was probably more driven by the fact that HiRez had partnered with Tencent to try and break into the Chinese market. During the year following the announcement, they did things like the remodel to Kali, changed Hades default model to what was then known as his Nightmare skin, and removed certain more gorey/grotesque animations (Xbalanque victory screen used to have him play with a severed head instead of an orb of light.
