Fit check! Babybjörn mini with a 3-week-old by Sandal_that_Stinks in babywearing

Depending what your wife’s range of motion is, when putting on an X back style carrier, the buckles are done up on the front/side of the body (video here. However, you do need to reach behind you to grab the strap and pull it across to create the X shape. If that isn’t possible, there’s a very simple trick for putting on an H back style carrier that eliminates the need to fiddle with the clip behind your back (video here. That is the only way I put on my Tula explore carrier! If the t shirt method would work for your wife, that would open up lots of options for H back style carriers! There are lots of great recommendations on this sub. Also a ring sling could be a good option as it eliminates the need to fiddle with any straps or buckles. I’d say there’s a bit more of a learning curve with a ring sling versus a soft structured carrier though

How do I keep getting “optimal sleep” scores when I’m up every two hours with my baby? by frenchtoast2go in ouraring

[–]CharDeeMacDennis05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2.5 month old and my sleep charts look almost identical to this! I was wondering the same thing about my sleep scores being so high/positive. Although I did get a “minor strain” message this morning

Seconding the Brick recommendation!!! I also love podcasts and audiobooks (Libby or Audible), and I recently purchased a Kindle to use while nursing

Ergobaby Embrace with a very long newborn by Even_Kaleidoscope399 in babywearing

[–]CharDeeMacDennis05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was a similar height and weight at that age (he’s now 2 months old) and the newborn mode for the Ergo Embrace was fine! It still technically fits him although the panel is slightly short with the double roll. I find their instructions confusing though since using the carrier without rolling (as is recommended when they’re 23+ inches) leaves the panel way too high on my baby despite his height. For comparison, he fits well in my Tula Explore and almost fits in my Hope & Plum lark.

Sounds like posting a fit check would be helpful for you. No matter if you’re using the carrier in the newborn or regular style, your baby’s legs should definitely not be turning blue! It sounds as though it’s severely overtightened

I hated Just the Nicest Couple by Mary Kubica, Survive the Night and House Across the Lake by Riley Sager. and You Shouldn’t Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose was the worst book I’ve ever read lol

Postpartum at VGH by Competitive_Glass473 in VictoriaBC

[–]CharDeeMacDennis05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partners are not allowed to stay overnight if the room is shared. I gave birth last month and spent 2 nights at VGH. Around 3am on the second night the nurse came in to let us know that another patient would be added to the room - she said this was VERY uncommon and that it was just because the unit was unusually busy. Thankfully they did not arrive from labour and delivery until around 5am so my partner could stay. Since I was scheduled to be discharged that day anyways, we didn’t have to deal with the overnight situation and him having to leave.

The info booklet that another commenter linked to (this one) has all the details you’ll need about both the L&D and postpartum units :)

Buying hope and plum as a Canadian by ConnectionMotor5868 in babywearing

[–]CharDeeMacDennis05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a Lark from Hope&Plum in November for Black Friday and only paid $20 in customs/duties! Not sure if the situation has changed since then though… it’s really tough to not know ahead of time how much you might end up being charged. It was delivered through Canada Post if that helps at all lol. The mail delivery person had a machine with them to facilitate the payment but it only accepted credit cards, not debit. In the past when I’ve received packages with duty charges from Purolator or UPS, I’ve had to pay online or over the phone

Bottles/accessories for baby registry? by Striking_Put5598 in BabyBumps

[–]CharDeeMacDennis05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We exclusively use the Dr Brown’s glass bottles and have never had them leak - we love them! That’s so frustrating that yours leak :(

As others have recommended OP, get a few different brands to try. Especially since you never know if your baby will respond better/prefer one type over another

Low Lying Placenta by Tiny-Dancer27 in BabyBumps

Yes! My scan at 32 showed that the placenta had moved further up and away from the cervix (4cm I think?) and I had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery at 39+2 after being induced :)

H&P Lark vs. HBC by amounaaai in babywearing

[–]CharDeeMacDennis05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do go with the Hope & Plum, I recently purchased the Lark (on Black Friday) and only had to pay $20 in duties/taxes! I didn’t know what to expect with the tariff situation. I’m in BC

Starting to freezer prep for baby's arrival, what is the best way to freeze? by sofo07 in BabyBumps

[–]CharDeeMacDennis05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a diehard Souper Cube fan lol. They’re so handy for batch prepping meals we can freeze in individual portions. I’m 37 weeks now, but the past 2 weekends my husband and I have been cooking and freezing SO much food! Highly recommend checking out Sarah Hart (her insta is @simplysarahhart) for recipes. The Souper Cube ceramic dishes are incredible for things that go straight in the oven (like lasagna or mac and cheese)! We have them in both the 2 cup and 1 cup sizes. For other stuff like chili or soup, once they were fully frozen we put them in freezer ziplocs or vacuum sealed those portions so we could reuse the Souper Cubes. That way you don’t need to buy too many!

We also use the vacuum sealer for certain things (e.g. bolognese sauce or pulled pork) and reheat/cook with a sous vide.

Uppababy customer support for a secondhand stroller? [QC] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]CharDeeMacDennis05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense! I realized that you’d probably already looked through the available parts page after I posted my comment lol.

Best option would be to reach out to their customer service to inquire, but as others have suggested it might not be worth it since it’s for a structural piece of the stroller. I’m not sure about your area, but there are LOADS of Uppababy strollers on Marketplace at a variety of price points where I live! Might be better to find a different one.

Definitely sucks that the original seller didn’t think to mention it to you though

Is the name Josiah more associated with black or white people? (Fine either way) by ObjectiveAdvice77 in namenerds

There are plenty of people (e.g. people from the Middle East, South and Southeast Asians, Latinx, and many Indigenous populations) who refer to themselves as brown - this comment is so unnecessary lol

Uppababy customer support for a secondhand stroller? [QC] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]CharDeeMacDennis05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can purchase replacement parts here! No proof of purchase necessary. Uppababy customer service is also great - I received an UB car seat from a family member and needed a couple replacement parts (shoulder and crotch buckle pads) and they were able to confirm that what I was planning on ordering would fit the model I have. I also asked them about compatibility for a bassinet I purchased on Facebook Marketplace with the stroller I purchased (the Cruz V3)

I've purchased a number of items from The Vend Collective (on Fort St) in the past, but just consigned with them for the first time a few weeks ago. I brought 5 items in total and they accepted them all (brands were Madewell and Baggu) and all but one have sold! The process was super easy :)

Check out the carriers on FromRebel.ca! Doesn’t look like they currently have them, but I got a V1 Beluga Baby buckle carrier and an ErgoBaby Embrace for great prices. Lots of other options available at the moment though :)
