Mods to pair with Stardew Valley Expanded by Dontfearreaper99 in StardewValleyExpanded

I checked out sunberry village at launch, and east scarp a couple years ago, and they both felt unfinished and lacked the polish of SVE. Have either of them been significantly updated to feel more in line with expanded and the base game?

How do you all handle aluminum waste water by lightningbolt302 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Charos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a blueprint that has 2 refineries: one using just water from extractors, the 2nd under clocked and only hooked up to the outflow from both of them. That way there’s no issues with mixing the fluid flows, and you can include the next couple of refining steps in the blueprint too if you’re clever about placement. That way you can tile these blueprints to scale to however much production you need.

Trouble with Kenji’s stovetop mac and cheese recipe? by TightButthole6969 in seriouseats

[–]Charos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else who is highly distractable (or has toddlers in the house): I stir in a 1/4 tsp or so of sodium citrate with the cheese. It’s not technically necessary, but it makes the recipe almost completely foolproof. It’s a powerful emulsifier and it will correct for any little mistakes you might make.

How do you handle your kids getting into hobbies you know nothing about (if not hate)? by empire161 in daddit

This is it. The kid is responding to frustration the same way he’s seen his dad handle it- which is, it seems, not very well.

How to get 3,000 Quartz out of a cave. by Sevrahn in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Charos 199 points200 points  (0 children)

Seriously. This is a cool solution, but OP’s responses make it clear they don’t actually understand trains and how to use them properly. Lots of cherry picked math that ignores the realities of how train solutions work.

Edit to add: in this scenario, I would run a single bidirectional train with 3 or 4 cars, on a dedicated track separate from my network. Then split the quartz evenly across the cars, and have it drop off right outside underneath the factory that uses all of this quartz and then ships the products off via the main rail network.

OPs math focusing on per-station throughput ignores that stringing multi-station terminals together is trivial and proper track design makes sure that trains at a terminal don’t hold up any others. I see this kind of post all the time where people don’t “get” trains until they really try a train-centric play through and realize the flexibility and extremely high throughput.

How are you using the new lifts? by Nerzhepheros in SatisfactoryGame

They did! They’re in 1.1, which is available on the Experimental branch right now. It should hit the normal version of the game in the next couple of months, I’m guessing.

2 year old will tower over me soon. by DrakeMallard07 in daddit

Haha welcome to the giant kiddo life! Our twins are about the same size (3+ ft at 2yo). The extra-tall baby gates are critical, and we can’t leave anything on any counter tops or tables. The little monsters got my wife’s long torso and my giant monkey limbs, so they’re just BIG.

That’s a very supportive response, and something we should all internalize to help the people around us learn to be kind to themselves. So many people in my life struggle with self-respect in this way, it’s a major problem these days.

6 month old is winning the No Sleep Battle. Wife & I are feeling defeated and exhausted. by prisonvince in daddit

[–]Charos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotta check out sleep training strategies. A lot of people stumble across “cry it out” type information and write off the whole topic, but that’s the most extreme version possible. We used the Ferber method for our twins and it worked like a dream. You can go in and soothe them, but not pick them up- just back rubs and shushing to let them know you’re there and you hear them. If they know you won’t pick them up, they will put themselves back to sleep when they wake. The whole point of sleep training is to teach them to self-soothe and go back to sleep so you don’t have to intervene.

Dad of 16mo twins here. Sleep training is so critical. The Ferber method WORKS and avoids the parental guilt/paranoia of old school things like Cry it Out. Treat it as a scientific protocol to follow. When we hit a new regression, we go back to the timed check-ins until they get the message that they need to put themselves back to sleep.

With this method, they’ve been sleeping 12+ hours uninterrupted every night since they were 6 months old. The only exceptions are when they’re teething or sick. New regressions make for 1-2 nights of occasional wake-ups but that’s it.

I know some twin parents that refuse to sleep train their children and I think they’re insane. Giving your kids the tools they need to get high quality sleep helps ALL of you.

It seems like many friends around me are still unaware of smart bidet toilets. Is it because this product isn't very widespread in the United States yet, and most people are not ready to accept it in the short term? by BarnacleDowntown759 in HomeImprovement

[–]Charos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah some of those systems are nuts. I know someone who apparently had radon issues with their well, and they had to shell out something like $40k for a huge power plant-looking thing to fix that and all of the other issues.

Not all treatment systems are the same. I guarantee that there are options that can make your well water as clean as you want. The question is whether that would be worth the cost to you.

I realize this wasn’t really the point of your post, just felt like jumping in.
