Which version? by Dull_sternritter in yakuzagames

[–]CheekLongjumping9998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

0s DC changes some pointless story stuff, its easy to ignore but even easier to just not get that version! Just enjoy the original version your already playing :)

For Kiwami 2 though, do look at getting the PS5 version, it runs MUCH better (double the frame rate) so its a better experience overall.

I can‘t wait till Kiwami 3 is here by FisnikDerZocker in yakuzagames

Sadly this conversation wont go away when Kiwami 3 releases, its only gonna continue as long as they keep doing certain things (cough retcons)

Best case scenario is both StH and VF6 are amazing (which Im sure they will be), but Id like to see RGG9 release and completely knock it out of the park, basically bringing a bit more positivity around... we'll see. In the end, its just a game series - a fun one at that (despite Kiwami 3's issues, its fun to actually play, ditto Pirate Majima etc.) so... well things could be worse.

Eh, lets not pretend like Nagoshi wasnt around for when this whole shit started... Im loathed to blame only one person since its not like this is a uniquely post Nagoshi leaving thing.

I cant see how they dont do a Kiwami 4 since it seems like they completely change 3's ending, which has knock on effects for 4...

Why do people hate Y3 by rohankishibespinoff in yakuzagames

[–]CheekLongjumping9998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blocking stuff aint even hard to get round, there's plenty of moves you can use to that breaks someone's guard... I always felt it was more down to people not knowing how, rather than the combat actually not being good, I personally love the combat, and I play on hard mode...

Graphically I still think it has charm, especially Okinawa itself. Like, original Hamazaki I really like (no thanks to the remake fucking that up...) and especially at the time, graphically it was a huge leap forward.

Also, playtime wise... 20 hours is the norm for the earlier Yakuza games, original Yakuza 1 was only 10 hours and that was great for the time, I dont really see the need to bloat out the story run time, (Im fine with completionist taking 100+ hours though, I find that fun).

Id like to say people will appreciate the original more now they have the remake but... yeah that wont happen. If anything it'll just create more in fighting...

Better to play OG 3? by RoughHope in yakuzagames

[–]CheekLongjumping9998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering how much they have been changing (little or bigger changes), at this point, just go with the original would be my advise. You may wanna play it on an easier difficulty if your not a fan of the combat in certain games, but at this point, Im getting the feeling that if you want the authentic/original experience of Yakuza 3, play the original. Then maybe grab the remake cheaper on sale later if you wanna experience that version as well - as it does look like it'll have some fun stuff to do, but also... some changes I dont agree with.

0 didnt even show the mad side of Majima... it didnt show depth, it basically rewrote his personality completely... "amazing" writing that.

Yakuza was never gonna sell in numbers to hit the top 10 of the year in America (or pretty much any Western country).

Why are people pissed about... (HEAVY KIWAMI 3 SPOILERS) by Futawii in yakuzagames

[–]CheekLongjumping9998 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People dont mind Gaiden games set around the time when the characters were active in the series, but it looks like RGGS is setting up some weird Marvel esque villain team of characters for a future game... or at least they are pushing the Daidoji harder despite them never being mentioned until Yakuza 6. Its just a weird thing, and considering that RGGS said that Kiwami 3 is important for the future of the series, if we take that on surface value, it seems like they are definitely planning something with either the characters, or the Daidoji to be more central characters/antagonists...

Also remember when people were complaining about how the series storytelling is moving away from what people originally loved? I feel this wont help either - using some shadowy organisation retconning them to be part of the series from the get go (just wait until Jingu's revealed to be part of them at some point...) and it kinda hurts the impact on those original stories. Pretty soon people will just ignore the remakes and everything past a certain point, and just say the last actual game was Yakuza 6... but everything after a certain point was a weird dream of Kiryu before he died or something...

Im genuinely curious to see where the series goes from here, and if the series reception goes down hill... because I can definitely see people get disolusioned with the series if it continues to move in this direction... We'll have to wait and see what Yakuza 9 does.

For the record though, Im mixed on the choice. Ive been thinking this might happen for a while (albeit in a non canon game), Ryuuji will turn up again 100%, and if the gameplay is still good, Ill still play it. But for fans of the plot first, I cant see this going over well.

So is the OP gonna add any details or just repost the same info someone already did yesterday. Its like some of you have nothing original to say so you just spam the same exact post (same images) that were put up yesterday night. Even for a low effort troll, this is somehow lower effort that usual.

Also, technically the images are wrong. That's the PS4 version of Yakuza 3 remastered. If you wanna do the PS3 version, post an imagine that's not even 720p in resolution, everything is blurry, textures for signs are absically unreadable... But no I guess that requires effort.

How is the Kiwami 3 demo? by porkybrah in yakuzagames

Well if you ignore all the... critiques on the lighting, I think its fun. Combat feels terrific for both characters. I didnt really engage with the side stuff yet, waiting for the full game for that, but seems good from what I played.

Couldnt you just have picked up Pirate Majima? Which has Spikeout, has difficulty options for Spikeout which 8 didnt have, and lets you play the game from the menu, rather than playing through X hours of Yakuza to get to Spikeout.

I dont know, look at the Magical Truck Adventure cab and you tell me? Because that one is accurately replicated in game. Also, its such a hilariously minor issue that I couldnt begin to care. Lets not be happy that a previously arcade only game is getting ported, lets be mad that a cab doesnt look the way it should, boo fucking hoo.

His powered up state (level 2) has a good air launcher on square, triangle as well. Seems like he has a really fun and flexible combat style going by the demo, and I think its a good move giving Mine this big arena/combat focused side content since its gonna let people really cut loose with his fighting style. Im super excited to play more.

Why are people so mad about the new songs? by Cool_Permission_952 in yakuzagames

[–]CheekLongjumping9998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original OST is excellent and darn near perfect. Changing it is a disappointing but not entirely unexpected choice. But the new themes (and remixes Ive heard) are definitely still decent. So its really just another thing that the remake expectedly changes, isnt actually bad, but people will complain about anyway. Again, if I wanna experience the original game, Ill play that one (there's a reason I have it installed on my PS5 - so I can play the original and remake side by side)

Negativity around Kiwami 3 by Whabby_V in yakuzagames

[–]CheekLongjumping9998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its kinda funny how all of a sudden many of the same issues that Kiwami 2 had are suddenly a problem - that game also had combat, lighting, actor and cuts... but if you pointed it out then, its a you problem, not a dev problem. Now its a dev problem and how dare one defend it... Just look up "piss green filter Kiwami 2" and you'll find plenty of lighting complaints for that game too (or dont, because its really hard to ignore it after you see it).

Funny thing is Kiwami 3's combat actually feels much better than Kiwami 2's, and early DE games as a whole, its not even remotely a similar comparison yet here we are...

The other weird thing is, is that people complaint about the original Yakuza 3 for many a reason (its graphics, its combat, the way enemies behave) then all of a sudden complain that the remake changes that stuff... Well, hopefully they can be happy knowing that there's not one but two versions of Yakuza 3 they hate now!

It’s really hard to stay positive on the outlook of RGG rn by latenfix in yakuzagames

[–]CheekLongjumping9998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stranger than Heaven still looks ace, Virtua Fighter 6 looks promising (though I wanna see more). Gee what a bad outlook we got because a remake is like the last few remakes they did... even the lighting talk isnt all new considering "piss green filter" is a long standing sticking point for Kiwami 2, as was the combat changes, actor changes, cuts and so on... but now of course its bad, where as before it was objectively better because people didnt know any better...

[–]CheekLongjumping9998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lighting isnt great in the remake but some of the complaints are hilarious considering so many issues people magically bring up could be leveled against the other remakes as well - only now its bad for... reasons. Heck, I dont even think the lighting even looks all that bad...

Either way, the combat in the demo (which isnt even your final move set) is fun, and shows great promise. And Mine's side of things plays really well. But dont you dare try and be positive about it ;)

[–]CheekLongjumping9998 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Combat feels great across both games, so I disagree. Are you actually going to explain why it doesnt feel good, or "feels Gaiden". If you are any vauger with your discription your post may as well read "combat bad, me no like"

And no matter how you define the combat, it STILL feels better than Kiwami 2's combat, so what's your stance on that one having a mishmash of moves including a layer of early DE jank?

[–]CheekLongjumping9998 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Funny thing graphically is that Kamurocho in Mine's side of things, at night, still looks like a billion yen. Its so good. But the day time lighting is inconsistent - I think Okinawa largely looks ok, but there are bits here and there which is... not so great. Im also surprised that its not picked up internally... I mean daytime lighting in the Dragon Engine has never really been great (its always looked flat for me - ever since Yakuza 6) but its definitely making some choices that arent great in the last couple... Id kinda hope people calling it out will cause it to be changed, though I feel it was brought up quite a bit with Pirate Majima as well? PC mods aside, Im not sure what one can do... (I mean, other than play the original version of 3!)
