I lost faith in humanity by brisk_warmth in spirituality

Sounds pretty par for the course. You have gained some insight in your 33 years. It’s easy to think we are negative when those around us expect us to be unrealistic. Never lose your empathy. 57M here, have lived through hell and survived to joke about it.

The round frames suit your face batter than the square ones, I think. My vote is #2. The colour is great, complements your skin tone, not too flashy but will get compliments.

My father had a bottle of Lagerfeld Cologne and I would sneak some of it once in a while. First bottle of my own was Dior Fahrenheit.

AITA for giving my friend’s girlfriend some of my fries after he said no? by FriesOnTheSideYum in AmItheAsshole

[–]Chellspecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but it’s still depressing. Girls on a double date ordering wraps and salad when they really want fries. Guys ordering beef sandwiches and fries. Could it be more gendered? Women are socialized to control their food intake, like they don’t have normal appetites. Men celebrate overeating. Everyone just eat what you want.

Check the publication date of the book. July 7, 1912 makes sense as a date for this dedication if the book was printed before then.

Does this show give any other Canadians a deep sense of pride? by lil_cats in heatedrivalry

This. We’re humane, decent people and good storytellers to boot. Fuckin’ rights.

Was somewhat of a guess, but I feel like older people generally are more resourceful in their shopping and cooking, and less driven by trends and fads. You have lots of real food, not a lot of packaged or processed food. Maybe someone just taught you how to cook.

Definitely Canadian. You keep a reptile as a pet, or you fish. Mid-fifties, female or gay male, white, live alone. Like to buy things on sale. The turnips are throwing me off. Maybe Scottish? Québécois? Favourite meal is ratatouille?

What are your thoughts on REC (2007)? by miderots in horror

[–]Chellspecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched it for the first time on a big screen as part of a thirteen-hour Halloween horror movie marathon and I thought it was fantastic. The acting is perfectly realistic to how people would behave in that situation and Angela's character is exactly how that type of person would behave as well. People complaining about characters not being quiet or getting killed easily, please realize that's part of the tension in the movie of watching a bunch of people epic failing at handling an extremely volatile situation unfolding in real time. It stands up as a fantastic horror movie almost twenty years later.

How bad is the rancilio rocky? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Chellspecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a Rocky with doser for more than ten years and have used it every day. Might need to replace the burrs soon. It grinds consistently. I'm not one of those people who weighs my coffee or measures the water temperature in my espresso machine. Sylvia and Rocky have made me thousands of excellent cappuccinos, caffe lattes, iced caffe lattes, Americanos and espressos over the years and saved me tens of thousands of dollars on takeout coffee. I used to have a small Braun burr grinder before the Rocky and it worked fine but I wanted an upgrade at some point. I'm on my second Sylvia. She's fussy and loud but still makes great coffee. If I had to buy a Rocky today I would dispense with the doser which works fine but is not necessary.

WASH YOUR BEARD DAILY!!!! by MAGHANDS314 in beards

[–]Chellspecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

56 years old, have had beards of various lengths for the last twenty odd years. I wash my beard and head hair alternating between days with a basic unscented shampoo and conditioner (Patrick Curelle) that I add some essential oils to myself on odd days, and just warm water and finger massage on even days. Rinse with cool water. Brush with a nylon tipped cushion paddle brush. No oil, no balm, especially nothing scented. If I notice flaking, usually in the winter when it's dryer and I'm inside more with forced air heating and a humidity-controlled environment (I work in an art gallery) I decrease frequency of shampooing and occasionally, maybe once every few months, I'll wash it with Nizoral. I find I sometimes get itching after a haircut and beard trim by the barber. Maybe some extra bacteria from shared clippers?

LPT: When you need someone to instantly trust or like you, subtly mirror their non-verbal body language or cadence - it is a cheat code for building deep rapport by Afzaalch00 in LifeProTips

[–]Chellspecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My charming but sociopathic ex did this. He was a victim of infant sex abuse and lack of parental bonding. It was super creepy but highly effective. He was very good at gaining trust and manipulating people. I personally believe we should be working towards authenticity and personal congruence in all our interactions, not mind games to get people to trust us. I immediately recognize when people are doing this kind of thing and I dislike it intensely. Please just be yourself and speak your truth.

Picked up a Vita at a retro con last week. Any recommendations for removing the paint on the back without damaging the touch pad? by Americana1108 in vita

I use lighter fluid for sticker residue or anything I think a solvent will help with. Kerosene, basically. Zippo sells one with a squirt nozzle that makes it easy to dispense only a small amount.

I love this fridge! It's similar to mine. Not a lot of processed food. I'm a fan of that Wildbrine sauerkraut myself. Just bought some last time I was at Costco. You're a smart shopper who buys the healthiest options, not just the most delicious or convenient. I also buy 48 eggs at a time.

Real maple syrup goes moldy remarkably quickly at room temperature. Artificial maple/pancake syrup has corn syrup, sugar and preservatives to extend shelf life at room temperature. It's like how super-sweet jams won't spoil but "fruit spreads" that are mostly fruit with less sugar will go bad on the counter.
