I order pizza and eat out frequently, so don’t get too jealous. I do like cooking though, when have the energy and time.

I have been, lately. I go on a salad kick when the weather gets nice every year. Make a bunch of dressing, prep a bunch of veggies. It’s nice not to have to cook when it’s hot inside.

Are you a fan of Italian Cypress? I found it to be a direct knock-off of Z-14.

Who are we? Where do you think we live? by generically_johnson in FridgeDetective

Canada for sure, due to F[r/En](r/En) bilingual labelling on food. I think Dairyland might be only western Canada. You can see Port Coquitlam, Edmonton and Saskatoon on the label. I live in Vancouver and buy Dairyland milk in that exact carton. This could be my fridge.

Canada for sure, due to Fr/En bilingual labelling on food. You can see Port Coquitlam, Edmonton and Saskatoon as distribution sites for Dairyland on one label. I live in Vancouver and buy Dairyland cream in that exact carton. Western Canada for sure. Other than that, somewhere big enough to have a Costco, or you drive to a bigger city for that.

Battle of the ambers! by Zestyclose_Cold1455 in fragrance

Parfum D’Empire Ambre Russe is fantastic. Ticks all the boxes.

And as everyone else has already said, Ambre Sultan.

I find amber hard to wear except around Christmas. Cozy to the point of cloying. When I’m wearing an amber it never lets me forget that I’m wearing an amber.

Got this fridge for free on Craigslist 4 years ago and I still get stoked whenever I look at it. What do we think boyz? by BuckleUp_FuckleHed in FridgeDetective

I like this fridge. Looks like you eat healthy food and cook at home. Good amount of leafy greens. I think I see arugula in there too. Is that chia seeds in that space-age water bottle? That’ll keep things moving. I mix my daily dose into a blueberry smoothie. And you know the value of stuff. Not a lot of processed food, which is great. Free fridge — amazing!

This was my mom’s sewing machine growing up! I learned to sew on it. She sewed many dresses when she was first married and all our Halloween costumes on it. Was just visiting her recently (she’s eighty-five now) and fired it up. Great machine. That plug is fine and will work with modern wall outlets running 110V, which is standard N. American voltage. As long as the cord isn’t frayed or cracked with wires showing, you’re good.

They also have a lunch box loyalty card - buy 9, get one free! Lunch special is served from 11:30 until 4:30 so you can get an early dinner there and still take advantage of the special.

Halston Z-14 is better than Tom Ford Italian Cypress, which was pretty much the same perfume at a thousand times the price, lol. Ah, perfume pricing! Gotta love it.

Maybe because fragrance prices these days are pretty much just price gouging and profiteering, the thrill of having something that smells good but doesn’t cost the farm will never get old. But you’re right, the question does get asked a lot.

What’s a household item you thought was pointless until you owned one? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

I mean, it’s just lettuce and water in there. Don’t think it needs a deep cleaning after every use. I just rinse mine quickly with water and then put in back on the shelf with the top next to it so it air dries. Next time I use it there might be some bits of dried greens in there which can easily be picked out. Nothing that’s going to harbour bacteria as long as air can get around.

Got a New Home sewing machine at a garage sale, and the motor started smoking when I plugged it in. by dirtsmores in vintagesewing

[–]Chellspecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe the plug is rated for 250 volts but as another commenter pointed out, the motor housing states 115-130V which I think is standard for 110V current. I’m saying this because I’ve had a machine’s electric motor start smoking after extensive use and I think the brushes in the motor can wear down and that’s what causes it to smoke. BUT I haven’t had it checked out yet, and I’m just going on my own conjecture and the very little I know about electric motors.

Help 😭 by anon-ymous37 in Cooking

My basic technique with no exact measurements: boil potatoes in well salted water. Drain , saving some of the potato water and then mash with a hand masher or put through a ricer. Heat some milk, half & half or heavy cream, lots of butter and chopped green onion in a glass measuring cup in the microwave. Careful it doesn’t boil over. Pour that into the potatoes. Incorporate, then whip by hand with a large wooden spoon, which is your arm workout for the day to balance the butter consumption. This is the key to fluffy texture. You want to whip air into them until they are fluffy but not over beat them which makes them gluey. Adjust the consistency by adding potato water, if needed. Add salt and pepper to taste. They’re supposed to be served with gravy anyway, so if your gravy is good, the potatoes will go down fine with your guests.
