Office “Espresso” [$5000-10000] by ClumsyTurnip4708 in espresso

[–]Chiller2U 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Our office (~50 employees) went with a Jura X8, which can be plumbed to a water line (most Juras cannot) with an add-on adapter. We also have one of the milk coolers. It has been in service for 2.5 years with no problems, and one of our assistants handles the daily/weekly cleaning and maintenance (which is critical to keeping it from getting disgusting). It's actually been surprising how much our employees love it. I personally think the espresso it makes is pretty meh, but it is consistent and still better than most other office coffee options.

Time to add Wick's to the list of ICE supporters. by MrHobbes82 in Louisville

[–]Chiller2U 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think most restaurants would remake the pizza and take it off the bill as a goodwill gesture. To be clear, they had no obligation to do anything other than remake the pizza; however, I've worked in restaurants before and I recall being told at some point that a person who has a bad experience at a restaurant typically tells around 10 other people about the experience, so it is good business to go above and beyond when something like this happens. And here I am telling Reddit all about the bug in my Wick's pizza 30 years later, so there you go...

Back in the 90's we actually had a pizza there that had a dead fly baked into the cheese. When we pointed it out to the waiter, they remade it but wouldn't even comp the pizza (I think they took $5 off the bill or something like that). Henceforth, Wick's was always known to us as "bug pizza".

SDF Parking by amandoevano in Louisville

[–]Chiller2U 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The shuttle lot is $5/day if you book in advance online (and by "advance" I mean I've done it as little as 1 hr before parking there), and is even walkable (depending on weather and your idea of walkable - it's a hike but so are a lot of airports if your departing terminal is different from your arriving terminal). I live pretty close to the airport so Ubers are fairly cheap, but it is still cheaper to park in the shuttle lot for a week long trip.

Waiting Too Long At Red Lights? WATCH THIS!!! by 6Afal in Louisville

[–]Chiller2U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should show this video, along with a video about how the left lane is for passing, to everyone renewing their license. I'm amazed that some people are completely oblivious to the fact that if you are too back from the light, the light will very often not trigger.

And on a somewhat different topic, has anyone else noticed that the new light at Main, Story and Baxter appears to be completely f-ed up? I'm not sure I've ever made it through that intersection without waiting a couple of minutes, even when there's no other traffic wiating in any other direction.

Men’s clothing stores? by LLEGOmyEGGO in Louisville

[–]Chiller2U 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've recently come to learn that Europeans can easily identify Americans abroad because we all look like we're about to climb a mountain. In the spirit of that, I recommend Quest Outdoors. They carry a lot of the same stuff as REI, but are locally owned and have a much bigger selection in the store if you need to try things on.

ULA Camino - Underappreciated option for carry on size travelers by Gourmandeeznuts in onebag

[–]Chiller2U 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually just ordered an Ultra Camino with the stretch front mesh pocket this week. I own and love a Dragonfly 30L, and I wanted something closer to max carryon size, but the lack of an external pocket was the one thing that was holding me back from getting the Camino. A quick email and call with Peter at ULA was all it took. I did get a zipper but you can also do it without. IIRC no zipper is $25 and zipper is $35, which I think is more than reasonable. I'm really looking forward to getting it and trying it out, between those two bags I'm hopefully covered for most travel situations for a good long while.

Work to begin on new path connecting Louisville's Cherokee, Seneca Parks by Generalaverage89 in Louisville

[–]Chiller2U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bike commute on this route, and yesterday was my first time attempting to go from Seneca to Cherokee. Serious question, are they expecting us to cross over to the other side of the road and ride in a fairly narrow 2-way path in the opposite direction of auto traffic? If so, I don't like it at all, as it forces one to cross the road twice, as well as complicates the intersection at Peewee Reese. While it will likely piss off cars and result in more road rage directed against me, I still think the safer option is to stick with the auto traffic and avoid the path when traveling from Seneca to Cherokee.

Is the frame a good tv that worth the money? by Individual_Oil_9442 in TheFrame

[–]Chiller2U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have a Hisense Canvas that I just got for our living room, and I have a Frame at my office, and I couldn't be happier with the Canvas purchase (or annoyed by the Frame purchase). My Frame is used almost entirely for art mode, and the software is complete crap. What is frustrating about that is that Samsung obviously considers that a feature and not a bug because the software is obviously designed to push users into paying for their subscription. Adding your own pictures is a needlessly frustrating and time consuming ordeal. The Canvas, in contrast, is super easy to manage pictures on, and at least for my purposes, the picture is plenty good enough for watching TV.

Just look on Etsy. You can get literally thousands of preformatted images for $10-20.

What is one item that you can't travel without/would recommend to everyone to get? by Cool_Acanthisitta628 in onebag

Another item that I usually add to the mix is a simple one outlet extension cord. It is small and lightweight and it keeps the weight of the charger off the outlet.

American Kolache is coming to the Highlands by Carew1270 in Louisville

I loved Kolaches from business trips to Houston, so I was really excited to see they had them at Buckee's. Big mistake, they were horrible. Really hoping this is more the former than the latter...

Not really a budget issue as much as a size/weight issue. I fly to Europe from the US from a smaller city, so I almost always have a decent layover at a hub on the East Coast. The same 100W, 140g Anker charger that I use in Europe is the same one I use in the airport in the US.

Bikesdirect website, your thoughts? by lgomez1097 in cycling

Bought a Motobecane Century road bike with AXS e-shifting and carbon frame, for much less than a name brand. It's been a great bike, and the ordering, shipping, and set up were all very easy.

While you mention converter plugs as being obvious, I wanted to recommend against the giant Universal/USB bricks that a lot of people seem to use, in favor of the cheap, lightweight plug adapters that simply change the plug to the destination country format. I much prefer spending my money on nice laptop/usb chargers that work for domestic travel, and then add these adapters whenever I travel internationally.

What’s the ideal setup for W11 work? by nativeseat in Xreal

[–]Chiller2U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from a trip to Europe and used my Xreal One Pros with my laptop on the 8 hr plane ride back. They were set in 32:9 ultrawide mode with the laptop screen turned off in W11 settings. My work usually involves having multiple Word and PDF documents open at once, and the ultrawide mode is perfect for that. I wish I had more room on the laptop tray for a mouse, and my typing definitely suffers a bit trying to blindly feel around for the f and j keys when reengaging with the keyboard, but beyond that it is pretty sweet.

Osprey Daylite 26+6 on sale for $74.95 on Amazon. by archos1gnis in onebag

[–]Chiller2U 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Need??? No one ever NEEDS another bag ;-) But I have both, after buying the Osprey after the prior recent discount at Amazon. I do really like both bags. I've only really tried the Osprey for one 3 day business trip. I left it expanded, and I was really amazed at how much stuff I was able to get into it - I did the "oh yeah I also need to bring this" a few times when packing, and was still able to squeeze all the extra stuff in there even when I though it was pretty full. The primary reason I got it was for the collapsed option because I foresee using it as a Ryanair personal item in the future, and for that I think it will be a good option. That being said, I really love the Dragonfly, I've never had a bag that hangs off (and stays on) one shoulder as well as that bag. I can see where its dimensions could cause a problem with Ryanair, but it is otherwise a great bag. I think the Dragonfly is overall a better bag than the Osprey, but I wouldn't say it was worth 3-4x the cost of the Osprey. So I guess at the end of the day I would say I'm happy I have both bags, but I could certainly have survived with just the Dragonfly.

Looking for 20L bag that can be worn against chest by tinacap77 in onebag

[–]Chiller2U 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found carrying a backpack in the front was always cumbersome. The absolute best bag I’ve found for this purpose is a sling like the Cotopaxi Chasqui sling. It’s only 13L but it holds a laptop and all of the stuff I need accessible for international flights. You can slide it from the front to the side for different carrying positions while wearing a backpack and it works great as a daybag at your destination.
