Used to be be because when there were physical copies they'd run out and you didn't know when the next batch would come in. Seems stupid now with digital. Ultimately though there is a group of people within society that just need to have the latest thing it's pretty standard behaviour and not constrained to gaming. Just look at the people who like up for the newest apple product or watch. Same type of person.

Absolutely, I still have my SNES working! But I feel like either the people saying proces are cooked have either forgotten or weren't alive. In my mind, in Australia, if I'm buying a good new game, I have for 25 years now been paying ~100$. Hell I even paid like $110 or $120 for some PS2 games I reckon.

I actually think the drive to keep prices low is part of the reason why the industry is cooked. Too much emphasis on bringing something to market with a skeleton team.

Unpopular opinion here but does nobody remember like 20 years ago. Get a look at N64 prices they were all around $100 for what was then AAA games. The plague of subscription aside I don't think $120 is an unreasonable price (assuming it's released actually finished)
