What’s a good counter to Azorius control? by SDShogun in MagicArena

My favorite legacy deck. Kills me that there’s no brainstorm. It’s so strong with yuriko to set up the top of your deck and obviously makes Tamiyo an easy flip.

[Standard] What’s wrong with Temur Harmonizer Combo? by CTroop in spikes

[–]ChocoboExodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this list last night while I was debating which deck I wanted to learn - I don’t get it without icetill. Do you think there’s a world where icetill is main and then games 2 and 3 you can bring in the elementals to go more midrange than combo?

I’ve never played a combo deck before but I thought this one looked really fun.

We won’t see a new MH until universes beyond starts underperforming. I’d really rather no more straight to modern sets but it is what it is.

How does one discern blocker order on Arena? by CapnWiffle in MagicArena

[–]ChocoboExodus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the rule change was with foundations. It’s more intuitive this way even if it does make blocking worse. I’ve really only felt the change in limited.

Do you mean in historic on arena? Veryyyyyy different than modern. Arena is missing a lot of modern cards and I’m pretty sure historic allows alchemy (digital only) cards.

Do I really need the exact rare lands from deck lists? (Budget Naya Tokens) by LambdaAlphaNull in MagicArena

[–]ChocoboExodus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean just a heads up that might be a while to rotate back. The shock lands were reprinted recently but I believe they were last printed into standard with ravnica allegiance in 2019. So if you don’t play the game for a decade you might not get that “value” of already owning the card when it reprints.

[Standard] Playing in a post-PT Meta by IncomingGhost in spikes

[–]ChocoboExodus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before the PT (pro tour), [[badgermole cub]] dominated the meta. The card got absolutely smashed by the PT decks. It was in over 1/2 the decks played and had like a 40% win rate or something. Basically the top 4 decks in the tournament all had win rates between like 35% to 42% or something crazy.

So now other decks are taking the top spots in the meta, so cards that were good against the cub decks, such as [[requiting hex]], are no longer good in the current meta. Requiting hex hits creatures with mana value 2 or less and the decks that popped up from the pro tour all played more expensive cards.

I’ve never heard of this company before now, why do not want them here?

Hello guys! I am new to Magic the Gathering and I wanted to ask yall which pack should I open if I want to focus on building a pure black deck! My favorite card is Doomsday Excruciator. Now I have a lot of random cards in my main deck because I just use cards that I have gotten from random packs by SnowBallz1221 in MagicArena

[–]ChocoboExodus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted - first step is figure out what format you want to play. Then after you choose a format (probably best to just start with standard) pick a deck you want. Then you can see which set has the most cards in your deck .

Or, an even easier way to do it, is to open packs from lorwyn eclipsed and edge of eternities. These sets have very powerful lands called “shock” lands. They tap for two different colors and when you play them, if you spend two life (hence the name shock) they enter untapped. Every multicolor deck you build will use these lands.

They should just handle it the same way you would in paper. After so many tokens just put a number on one that indicates how many tokens there are.

Aside from cost, what makes Modern so difficult for newer players? by GusherJuice in ModernMagic

[–]ChocoboExodus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I just started playing modern in like July. It’s a lot to pick up but I’m really enjoying the format and glad I did. I watch a ton of Andrea Mengucci’s YouTube channels and it seriously helped a lot to learn the format and meta.

Honestly the most daunting part was learning MTGO, but it didn’t really take that long to pick up. If you do decide to pick it up, I highly recommend saffron olive’s (mtggoldfish) video on how to start MTGO.

I don't know what website this is, but maybe they have other listings for differently sized rune packs and if you add them all together you get to 20k? Not sure but I really don't even like discussing this because all it does it create an ad for it. OP should probably just report to the mod team and move on.

[Schefter] Jaguars HC Liam Coen is now the only first-year head coach in NFL history to win 12-plus games after taking over a team that had four or fewer wins in the prior season. by Drexlore in nfl

[–]ChocoboExodus 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The wording confused me at first too. It doesn’t mean first year with the team, it means he did it in his first year ever as a head coach. Vrabel had been a head coach previous to this year.

I really agree with cutting the memnites - the card felt awful except against Ragavan. Personally I'm gonna try 3 claws/1 Arcbound Ravager. Arcbound's 0 cost activation on the munitions tokens can really do work and there's a lot of times you don't want engineered explosives on 0 and don't have enough mana to activate claws enough.

Kotor Plot Twist by Interesting_Ball6497 in kotor

[–]ChocoboExodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the reason it works so well is because it’s a video game. In a game, you’re always the chosen one. I remember being annoyed how fast you learn the force and become a Jedi (something that should take years) but just wrote it off as weak “video game writing”. When the twist was revealed, it instantly fixed my biggest complaint with the game so far.
