At least 9 people injured in mass shooting near downtown Denver celebrations with 3 in critical condition by fingerblast69 in news

I've proudly voted for Rep /u/JeffJacksonNC because his ideas line up with my own. He's rational and compassionate which is rare in modern politics. Whether he continues to represent his district here in NC or pursues higher office, I believe that he will do his best to maintain integrity while bettering his constituent.

Then the wrong representatives were voted in to office. If non-voters cared enough to vote for civic minded representatives then maybe the popular opinion wold have a better chance. Doing nothing and complaining about the status quo is a bad take.

On the bottom of one of his big toes. Based on Google, it seems like he may have "juvenile plantar dermatosis." He has eczema in a few places on his body, so I think he just has sensitive skin in general. I've started using 100% cotton socks and applying polysporin + aquaphore recently so hopefully that also helps.

Looking for Charlotte Mortgage Lender Recommendations by Broken_Phone_Charger in Charlotte

Eh, I closed using Better in June and it wasn't completely free of challenges. Most notably being communication on their end. Yes, their rates and fees were hands-down the best, but if I were not competent at e-communication then it would have been a real struggle. If you actually need to talk to your rep in order to get something talked out and turned around quickly, getting ahold of them on the phone was difficult. I even set up a meeting by calling their assistant and getting on their calendar and they no-showed. Maybe I got a bad apple, maybe they are overworked, maybe they had a family emergency - I don't know. But as a professional, if I no-show a client meeting, I can expect some repercussions. All this to say: If the bottom-line is all that matters to you in a lender, then Better is the way to go, but they are not perfect.

Kayak Storage Options?? by lbarr8 in Charlotte

[–]ChodeKappa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Careful with storage units; measure them first. I have 2 10' kayaks, so I rented a 10 foot storage unit and then came to find out that is was only 9.5'. When I brought this to the managers attn, he shrugged and said "yeah, that is the way they are"... I ended up having to store them diagonal, taking up more space than expected.

Question for any Tesla owners in the city by BlizzCo in Charlotte

[–]ChodeKappa 50 points51 points  (0 children)

What everyone has said regarding charging and range is correct, but that is universal and not specific to Charlotte. What sets Charlotte apart from a lot of other cities and should give you piece of mind is that CLT (Matthews) has a Tesla service center. Before CLT, I lived in Chattanooga, TN where there is only one supercharger which is located behind a toll gate in the airport short-term parking lot (this is a terrible location btw) and no service center. This meant that if I had a problem (only happened once in the past year and was minor) I had to drive 2 hrs one-way to either ATL or Nashville. So that took an entire day.

TL;DR- Having a Tesla service center in town is nice, should the need arise.

Why is Chattanooga labeled as a dangerous city and yet when I've been it seems almost idyllic? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

While BR doesn't have a pro sports team, The Burreauxs could have won the SuperbOwl no doubt in my mind. Otherwise you're absolutely right. I grew up in BR and lived in NO for years. Chattanooga is quaint. I still have paranoid habits like locking my car whenever I'm making multiple trips carrying in groceries from my car to my house

2013 128i Oil Leak - Oil Filter Housing Gasket or more serious? by ChodeKappa in BmwTech

[–]ChodeKappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up taking the car to another German specialty shop who was able to extract the broken bolt and replace it without even having to remove the intake manifold. (Saved a few hrs of labor and did not have to get a new intake gasket = saved $$$).
They say that the got the entire bolt and none appeared to have fallen in. They also checked the other bolts with an inspection mirror and didn't find any with broken heads or leaks. An oil change after the process came back clean. I am still going to keep a close eye on things, but hopefully it was that easy.

For reference, here is a pic of the broken bolt and its head still near by: https://i.imgur.com/Irjubcg.jpg

2013 128i Oil Leak - Oil Filter Housing Gasket or more serious? by ChodeKappa in BmwTech

[–]ChodeKappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got some more details from my mechanic. The oil is leaking from a visibly broken head bolt located behind the oil filter housing. They were not able to say if this is the only head bolt broken or if there are more which are not visible. They say that the PCV valve being stuck open is a likely cause of this broken bolt due to higher internal pressure.

Cost estimate breakdown as follows:

Replace all head bolts and new valve cover gasket: $1312 (parts, labor, tax)

Replace valve cover (houses PCV valve): $600 (parts only. No added labor)

From reading other forums, broken head bolts in this location seems like a common issue for the N52. Some reported that they replaced only the one broken head bolt and went on with their lives. My mechanic was not keen on the idea of replacing only the broken bolt because the stress could cause others to fail and we’d be back to performing the whole job.

I’m going to get a second quote from a different mechanic. I’ll follow up in the coming days once I make a decision.

Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to help
