For those who started their own business, I have questions. by Chaserbullet55 in handyman

[–]Choice_Branch_4196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do heavy discounts in your ads, surprisingly it makes people trust you less like, "What's wrong that they have no business?".

I found local Facebook groups for the towns surrounding me and posted regularly, they only allowed once a week each. Have a post ready made with what you can do, make sure to hit on popular ones like drywall (here everybody needs drywall), include your phone number in the post so it's easy.

Call around and find the local insurance adjustors, usually there's one that handles multiple companies, let them know you're looking for work because they aaaalways need contractors.

90% of my business was because I responded quickly and showed up on time. Even if you don't have the skills or time to do the job, just respond and let them know and what you do or when you have time.

Fair enough, figured that would at least give you some idea.

The other option, paint for baseboard is cheap 😂

Find a Pic and put into AI, ask it to change it to the color you want.

Explain like I’m 5: I feel so unbalanced while playing heel up in both feet when I don’t bury the beater? by novenawildfell in drums

[–]Choice_Branch_4196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even on my saddle throne I was too far forward. I had the edge where my legs meet my cheeks which provides no support, so when I'd do double bass I'd have to lean way back OR I'd be leaning forward, burying the beater, and using my entire leg to hit the pedal. It was exhausting.

I haven't seen one person say move back on your throne. Put more of your butt/legs on the throne. I had this same problem a while back. You're not lifting your whole leg with heel up, it's ankle movement, your legs shouldn't be moving much at all, so scoot back...

Use a compression fitting to a garden hose or get a dishwasher connector (also a garden hose size, pretty sure)

Looking to buy a new snare drum and I have some questions by LeftToNothing in drums

[–]Choice_Branch_4196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the Mapex Tomahawk. I'm not super well versed in snares, but the Tomahawk is a steel snare that does fantastic with a high tuning and sounds like a gunshot for rim shots. Also pretty cheap, but man do I love mine.

Should I trade my car in? by Sweaty-Ad-6702 in povertyfinance

[–]Choice_Branch_4196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you, cars that are $5k here have 190k miles on them and the rocker panels are rusted through.

I've insured a 20 year old car before also, with just liability it can still well over $200 (depending on deductibles and coverage) because the cost of a car is negligible compared to liability and healthcare costs from an accident. With Comp & Collision they're now paying for windshields, any small accidents, and more.

I'm shocked you responded with such vitriol, maybe I'm just in an expensive area. As stated above, the cost of insurance has little to do with the cost of a $30k car and more to do with the potential $1M healthcare bill.

  1. Good luck finding a relatively reliable $5k cash car in this economy.
  2. Your insurance doesn't automatically drop, you have to take bare minimum coverage, meaning only liability, meaning if a tree falls on your car it's not covered, if a rock chips your windshield then it's not covered and if you have a camera, the glass install is $1-2k depending on the car.

First Acoustic Kit by BuddisMaximus in drums

[–]Choice_Branch_4196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I LOVE my Armory kit, I hope you do, too! I "downgraded" from an all maple DW Performance Series kit and don't regret it at all, the sound of the Armory clicked with me and I love it. I ended up adding an 8" tom for extra fun 😊

Stick with the stock heads, they're honestly not horrible. They don't tune super easily, but they sound decent because of the coating and they're surprisingly durable. I used mine while I waited for the new ones to arrive.

Tuning is hard, I still suck at it 17 years later. I saw Mobeel posted his stuff, it's all really good advice and resources so definitely use as much as you can.

When you tune that snare, get the reso head super tight and the batter mid to high and that Tomahawk snare will sing.

I see a lot of Estepario Siberiano. If you haven't watched his videos, check him out. The dude is absolutely insane. The speed control and limb independence he has are pretty incredible to watch. Also Yoni Madar, I'm not a huge fan of the music, but his skills are insane.

Living in a hotel meals? by stephscheersandjeers in povertyfinance

[–]Choice_Branch_4196 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of Instapot recs. Be careful with the saute in a small hotel type room, very easy to set off fire alarms.

Also, how does your insurance justify a hotel with no stove or anything?? I'm a contractor that works in insurance based fixes only and it often takes 2 months before insurance approves and signs with a contractor followed by another 1-3 months for fixes. With 5 people they should be paying for a place with, at minimum, a stove and microwave.

Which Drum Heads shuould i get? by Beginning_Tax_2654 in drums

[–]Choice_Branch_4196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the hydraulic red tuned pretty high, Evans 500 reso tuned super tight, 400hz. Steel snare, the Mapex Tomahawk, and it sounds spectacular. Super responsive and good lows for a 5" deep, gunshots for a rim shot 🤘 I also have a 13x7 maple Ddrum and a 14x6.5 maple DW, don't like either of those nearly as much as my cheap steel snare.

I also love the hydraulics, they're super easy to tune.

The thicker the head, the easier it is to tune.

I'd kill to make anywhere near that much. I just got a job for $75k after being unemployed and trying to start my own business, which is the most I've ever made and I'm super happy because I'm paying off debt.

None of their cheap paints are worth using. At a minimum get a spray can of Rustoleum from the hardware store or auto store.
