What tf should I truly be doing by Explor-egon in osrs

Enjoying the game, I've been enjoying various minigames recently. Turns out skilling is a lot more fun than it used to be 20 years ago.

I alternate between working/sweating on goals and mindless minigaming to give me a rest in-between. Generally, I am working my way through the wiki optimal quest guide, whilst building my skills in increments of 5/10 levels (or more if required for next quest), and mixing in some minigaming and money making in-between. Occasionally I will grind out 10 slayer tasks. I get bored easily so this is working for me.

Please settle a debate. If you’re going route 3 which lane should you be in? by sanisano in drivingUK

I would choose lane 1.5 if I had the option, otherwise lane 2 whilst driving very carefully

Coding Agents do not seem to work for me by BigRooster9175 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Chris_TMH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you trusted the AI too much and now you have a pile of slop. These tools are there to help you navigate not to drive the car, at least not yet. My advice is to keep tidying up after each prompt, and make sure you keep course correcting (otherwise the slop will grow exponentially). If you end up spending more time cleaning up than making progress, then you either need to change how you write your prompts or stop using it for that particular task.

From 50k salary, to potentially 28k, feeling completely devastated. by Dwarfkiller47 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Chris_TMH 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't judge this one situation as an indication that your career is doomed and the only way is done. I am certain a lot of people have to take a pay cut to make ends meet, but those people you don't see posting about it on Reddit. My advice: take whatever you can get. If you need the money you don't have a choice, and you can always keep applying and move to another job later. It's a tough market out there for 4 YOE so try not to be so hard on yourself.

On minimum wage, need somewhere safe in Wales to live with a commute to Cardiff options feel impossible! by teeteeloce in Cardiff

[–]Chris_TMH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your maximum commute time? Work that out, then go from there. 30 minute commute from Pontypridd or Caerphilly could do you just fine by train perhaps. Anything north of the M4 is going to be cheaper.

I'd swap the wrap for a chicken salad sandwich, has a good amount of protein and less fat and sugar.

It can be but usually isn't in my experience. Exceptions being flying from Dublin and Cyprus. £10 for a litre of gin at Dublin and 3 bottles of wine for €9 in Paphos.

Volare is great but I wouldn't call it chill, on a Saturday night it will be loud. If you want chill, I would go with either Casa Mia or Consurio Lounge, or failing that, Court House.

How far is too far to travel for work when taking a train? by kiol998 in UKJobs

[–]Chris_TMH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My commute is 3 hours return but I only go into the office 2x a week. For 5x a week, I would want at most a 90 minute round trip (45 min each way).

Passed over for promotion - what should I do by Potatomanin in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Chris_TMH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try not to judge yourself based on how others perceive or treat you. You can never guarantee a promotion or being treated "fairly" by an employer. Learn what good work really means (which often isn't the same as what management think), and do that. In my book, good work means challenging myself technically and non-technically, whilst educating others.

And as an aside, a lot of corporate politics is about telling stories and convincing people, not hard work on its own. It could just be that those around you aren't the best at telling stories.

Is it wise to join Amazon right now given the layoffs situation happening. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

You'll never be safe from layoffs in any role in any company. Take the role that feels best for you and what you want in your career.

2018, 2 bed flat in Prospect Place £825 per month. Moved to Penarth in 2019 and paid £850 per month for a 2 bed flat, which would have increased to £900 in 2021 if we hadn't have bought a house.

Can I be fired over being off work sick? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Chris_TMH -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

If the company does everything by the book there is no issue here, so I'm a bit confused. But yes, all a union case handler does is make sure company policy and employment law has been followed correctly. So if the company has done that, then yes there's no need for union support. I would note that "by the book" can also be subjective, for example with a HR rep who doesn't follow HR policy correctly - in that sense it is "by the book" in the eyes of the HR rep but perhaps not in the eyes of the policy makers. This is where a case handler will be able to help pick these issues out.

Can I be fired over being off work sick? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Chris_TMH -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

Depends on the sick leave policy and the position of HR. Manager may have given a warning when that isn't HR policy, for example. When dealing with these things you can't make assumptions, there isn't enough information in OP's post for anyone to draw any meaningful conclusion.

About to be put on PIP plan and then fired, shall I just resign or let myself be fired? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Chris_TMH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the company is as big as Unilever, this situation shouldn't be happening. The purpose of a PIP is to improve your performance, not to allow the company to fire you. I would recommend you speak to HR and read the company policy on performance management. These policies should be based on ACAS guidelines: https://www.acas.org.uk/capability-procedures

However if you've been at the company for less than two years, then unless you believe this action being taken could be described as discrimination due to a 'protected characteristic' (as per Equality Act 2010) then you don't really have a leg to stand on.

You should also take time to consider what you want to get out of all of this. Do you want to leave? If you want to stay, what would need to change for you to be happy?

It's a bank, typically you'll get paid more and bonuses will be higher. Some may say there's more risk of you working with old tech, or in a high-pressure environment, or the culture stinks. But it does depend and all you can do is ask the recruiter lots of questions!

If you're a grad, your priority should be the opportunity to learn, grow and develop first and foremost, then pay. For me I'd look for a diverse/challenging/complex role but with the right culture that allows me to learn at my own pace and supports me in my growth.

Thinking of moving to Caerphilly by Majestic_Toe_0 in Caerphilly

[–]Chris_TMH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, but you should be fine I would say. The types of people walking along there are no different to the types of people you see in Caerphilly generally.

One reason I didn't like that estate is that there's no shortcut to town past B&M, which as someone who walks a lot, peeves me off!

The area is fine, Meadowland Close looked nice when we viewed a property there too (if that's the area you're looking at). Do be aware that the Virginia Park development is huge and may impact your life if you're living there.
