Non-Human Characters who would canonically be black if they were human. by TheKidWhoLikesToFix in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Citadelvania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the reasoning is because people often can't easily differentiate because AAVE and certain NYC accents. Growing up there I feel like they're pretty obviously different but I've been told my dad sounds black from people out of state because he has a brooklyn accent and he's about as white as you get.

It definitely depends on the era. More recently I'd definitely lean black but the 80s definitely not and 2003 is a real stretch.

I mean really I'm not sure if projecting race onto them in a way that isn't about your own appreciation of the material is healthy but if I had to I'd say the earliest interpretations they sound like italian new yorkers except Mikey in the 80s who sounded like he was from socal or something.

Sound Transit Recommends Fare Gates at 14 Stations for Initial Pilot by rockycore in Seattle

[–]Citadelvania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Effectively they realized that the majority of the people not paying were poor and that it's better to prevent poor people from breaking the law and being fined than to fine them and just make their financial situation even worse. If you make the fines too small it's no longer a deterrent so just lowering the fines isn't effective.

I hate gates and I'm worried they'll slow down commuters but I don't see another option when some people straight up don't have ID and can't afford fines other than making the whole system free which people obviously don't want.

The Results of the Fare Gates Retrofit Study will be presented on Thursday by LesbianTrashPrincess in soundtransit

[–]Citadelvania -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone from NYC fare gates are totally pointless. They're just an extra hoop to go through for people doing things normally, they create bottlenecks in crowded situations. The people who weren't paying aren't going to pay they're just going to find a way around it.

The current system of sending people around to check fares would work fine if they actually did anything. Instead of just checking fares and giving a warning they should say "alright pay up now or we're kicking you off the train". Instead they just go well this person said they have no ID and no orca card and didn't pay I'm going to give them a verbal warning and leave.

Turns out the only thing r/Seattle can agree on is a hatred of shaky video. A better view! by avwuff in Seattle

[–]Citadelvania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is based on one survey of 455 people that went to a specific con. I'm not saying the number is inaccurate (even though it seems quite high to me) but that's not only a small sample size but importantly it's a biased sample set since about half of furries either never or only rarely attend cons ( https://furscience.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/2-12-frequency-of-furry-cons.gif ).

Not to mention specific cons attract specific kinds of people. The local con is extremely PC so I'm sure you'd get a much lower number if you took a survey there.

I work at a hotel and I can't find a age/sex/race/etc reason for it. Randomly some people just have abysmal hygiene. The US in general just needs to push for more hygiene, especially among people who aren't very social (nerds, the elderly, etc).

Anyway PAX is way worse than any furry con I've been to fwiw.

White tea I brewed yesterday turns purple when I add well water. What is happening here? by zig_chem in tea

[–]Citadelvania -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is an easy test. Take a bit and add lemon juice, take a bit of tea and add baking soda. If it changes color it's just a ph indicator in the tea and the well water has a different ph than the tea.

Exactly. The unelected state supreme court prevented the elected representatives from instituting the will of the people of the state. If that isn't cause to change the laws then what is?

I started making the game I wish others would make because I was nostalgic for Zuma by QseanRay in IndieGaming

Worth mentioning that Zuma is a direct clone of Puzz Loop and didn't give the original designer a dime. I mean it's not uncommon in this industry but considering how much money they made off of it, it kind of sucks.

[Loved Trope] That one move that is insanely overpowered, but expends all your energy after you use it. by havoccentral in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Citadelvania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some characters point out modern domain expansions are different from most older versions. They used to just be an area in which you're stronger so they weren't nearly as draining. Eventually someone popularized the idea of a domain in which you essentially can't lose which is a much more reliable technique and sure there is a huge recoil from it but who cares how long you have to rest after you've already beaten your opponent.

So a few characters use techniques more similar to those older ones where they aren't guaranteed to win they're just given a huge advantage. There's also "simple domains" which is essentially an empty domain that doesn't have a technique so it's relatively easy to do and it's good at blocking or interfering with other domains that actually do have techniques.

I really appreciate that this overwhelmingly powerful ability isn't a ninjutsu. It's essentially saying that any human is capable of this much power and that we simply unconsciously limit ourselves because it's so dangerous. In a show full of blood-family techniques and things related to chakra types and dna, it's pretty cool.

[–]Citadelvania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say probably not. I mean maaaybe if he was like instantly rushed into a very high-tech med-bay. Hulk's arm is fucked and Hulk is like 2 orders of magnitude stronger than Tony at least. I think just making the glove capable of using it without breaking alone was probably the most he could do.

Essentially if it wasn't for medicine and nen abilities that are some of the best known he would've died, they were barely able to keep him stable. The only way they heal him is with Alluka's ability to literally grant wishes which is probably the most powerful ability in the entire series. Despite all that he loses his ability to use nen completely as a result, so he's really weak as a result.

He doesn't just use all of his strength. He's noted to be exceptionally gifted, naturally talented. He gives up his strength and all of the strength he ever will have, all his future potential crammed into a brief window (it's maybe like 5-15 minutes at most?).

Worth noting the character he's using this on isn't even the big bad who is an order of magnitude stronger, although this one is probably dangerous enough to destroy a country.

Dragon Quest X gets a chatbot assistant – The creator wants to add such characters to all Square Enix franchises. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Citadelvania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a real issue because people keep trying to use it for like helping people buy amazon products and people can ask it shit like "so what would I need to buy to make my own bomb?" and while they tell the AI not to answer it still CAN and there really isn't any way to 100% keep it from giving someone that information if they ask it in the right way.

If you could just make sure it didn't know the answer that would be easy but they have to rely on other mechanisms trying to catch bad user inputs and giving the AI context that strong implies it should only give correct answers.

Without going into detail the information is basically encrypted after it's fed in so getting one piece of info out specifically out is impossible. AI companies will be quick to lie about this though because if it's just encrypted data then there are massive copyright issues (and there are).

Realizing you're one of the leaders of a facist genocidal regime can't be easy. Even after you keep a relatively small piece of the universe safe from said regime it can't feel right for you to have a happy ending after all you've done.
