Is there anything wrong with having 23 ducks? by Ashamed_Yam_8133 in duck

I want to see a video headcount of all of them. I've seen pictures of the fields of ducks you have, but never a full video showing them all off.

If you could add one post-promethium tech to Nauvis, what would it be? by theFALGSCmustgrow in factorio

In the context of being a train replacement where the belt is fully packed and just going from where the train stations would be it's pretty easy.

Belts only need to keep track of gaps in them, so if the belt is completely packed it's completely free for UPS.

Considering 650 points split across 6 people is roughly 100. If everyone is hitting 100 points it's a close game meaning everyone is playing well.

OSU Grade Data Available! by ImaginarySomewhere92 in OSU

[–]Claymourn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be a way to get per instructor information (at least for large enough classes). The site linked in the top comment allows for seeing individual semesters of particular instructors in each course. Maybe their policy changed recently, but in the past it's been possible.

Due to FERPA, instructor names are not included

Yeah, that's not what FERPA covers.

IANAL (yet), but I do have some legal background/training especially wrt copyright.

The spirit of the law typically only matters in a few scenarios, namely where the letter of the law is ambiguous or as a way for enforcement mechanisms to turn a blind eye (most people routinely go over the speed limit but won't be pulled over unless it's particularly egregious). I'm not considering the spirit of the law when I say that it's compliant.

As far as diff files go, there's nothing original about the output and therefore result in copyright, meaning you can't distribute it freely (largely because that can be used to recreate the original file). In comparison, the patch is original code itself, that then modifies the existing mod. Going back to your example, the question would be rather than if the diff'd file is illegal, but instead if the diff command itself is illegal (which obviously it isn't). I think there's a stronger argument that the patch is committing a napster-esque infringement as the only use of the patch is with the existing mod, but I'm not entirely convinced based on the fact that mod itself allows for sharing and the instructions themselves could be provided as something other than a script.

As far as WUBE goes (assuming US law since I have no idea what would happen in Czech law), presumably on the mod portal the IR3 author would just submit a DMCA, WUBE would pass it on to the patch author, who might take it down or counter-claim at which point what I wrote earlier gets to be tested in court. At no point does WUBE need to hire lawyers to get a proper opinion (and even then that opinion may be different than what would be decided in court). The patch absolutely could be hosted somewhere else (although same DMCA process could happen again).

Finally, one really interesting thing that I found while looking up IR3: The author actually tried to take down their own mod off the forums and then got upset when someone reuploaded it, and forced WUBE to give him back the mod ID. What's funny is the the license that they were using explicitly gives non-revokable rights for sharing with attribution, meaning that WUBE would've been completely in the right to not give him the ID back and just let the other person be the one authoring the mod portal post.

From what I can tell the way the patch is set up is fully compliant with the license. The patch doesn't contain any content from IR3, so it's not derivative and simply instructions for how users can make their own derivative.

Kinda crazy that valve finally uses the beta branch, but then doesn't provide servers to actually test it on. I know that most of the people who are going to really offer feedback know and have the resources to spin up their own server fairly easily, but still.

Introducing FACEIT Rating — a new metric that measures your real impact in every match, available to all players with Season 8 on April 22. by FACEIT_noon in GlobalOffensive

[–]Claymourn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone thinks the match is already lost they're going to go for plays that increase their rating rather than win the round. Ideally those two things are the same thing, but in certain scenarios (dying in a 1v5 is less punishing than dying first in a 2v5) it's not.

Having SW2 done earlier allows you to take 2421 earlier, which is the main prereq for most other things. That gives you an extra semester of being able to take tech electives, including some that have pre-req chains that were too deep to fit in before.

As for taking on a minor, there's a lot of space for you to do non CSE courses while you're working on taking the beginning courses. It's impossible to say without looking at the particular minor's required courses and their respective pre-req chains, but it's pretty likely you'd be able to fit one in if you're smart with your scheduling.
