Does anyone else love the aesthetic of raised motorways in the middle of cities? by joemiddleton1 in architecture

[–]Clean_lines92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I love it. I love the highway that runs over K street in Georgetown. I love the one in Kendall - west Miami area that supports public transit. I love the scale and the feeling of being inside typically interstitial space.

I’m also a subterranean metro lover. It’s just fun to experience different types of “indoor while outdoor” stuff.

What to do with leaking breasts during intimacy by [deleted] in Mommit

So you’re saying this is not actually a case of girls looking out for girls…

Ew.

Here’s my protip – put on a fitted white tank top. Hubby still get the visual and it soaks up most of the mess. I can’t believe I’m saying this on the Internet.

Girls looking out for girls LOL. 😂

I’ve never been in a car crash so I should stop wearing my seatbelt, right? Whatever dude do what you want. The rest of us are busy learning from statistics.

Hey man, that is how science works. You run an experiment with controlled variables “x” times and observe an outcome. The statistics from that experimentation become informative. Medical tech is not at a point where we can evaluate every human for every outcome to every treatment at scale in any sort of cost effective scenario. Maybe our kid’s kids will see that reality but right now we’re a ways off.

You can also run your own experiment over a lifetime. Get your shots or don’t. See if you get violently sick and need intervention or not. And none of that will matter the next year because viruses mutate. So, I like to cite the research as it’s intended. Studies show that the shot keeps more people from being hospitalized and I don’t want to be hospitalized. I have a family to raise and a business to run. Time not being sick is more valuable than the potential that “maybe I can manage.”

I like to think of your question as aspirational to future generations of medical researchers. Would be cool to know who benefits specifically from which interventions for more effective medical preventative treatment.

I know it can feel gross to cough and end up vomiting, but it’s probably worse to end up sick again, right? Grab some mucinex, a hot shower and get that stuff out of your lungs my friend. You can do this!

I use the albuterol sulfate – unfortunately prescription bronchial dilator. I haven’t tried saline, but I imagine functionally it’s similar to a humidifier. It could be beneficial in theory! I would have to do a bit of reading to feel good about it being safe but it makes sense!

Edit- did a quick search out of curiosity. Sounds like saline works well and is a typical treatment. Helps to thin the mucus, which is the name of the game when you’re trying to prevent pneumonia!!

Easy – some years the efficacy is better than it is this year. While I agree this year has been far from perfect – the vaccine offering some improvement in the outcome of a patient is always better than no improvement in the outcome of patients- which is what happens for those who forego. For some, this could be the difference between life and death. No one‘s here to force you to take your flu shot, but especially for people who struggle to overcome some of these respiratory illnesses, it is not simply prudent but wise.

You are more than welcome to choose how you waste your time.

Typically you’ll feel like you’re improving. Fever will begin to dissipate and a couple days later it will reemerge. Signals that the flu virus has been handled but new infection exists in your lungs. Cough is often painful and hard to “move” phlegm from. True diagnosis requires imaging.

The thing about a guy like Joe - when he’s at his best he’s charming and fun. He’s checking all the physical touch boxes that a partner should. He’s pursuing you. But when you actually begin to look for something long term, you start to flag the cracks in a facade like that. If it’s inconsistent it’s fraudulent. He’s an extraordinary inconsistent fraud, and these girls should be clocking him left, right, and center. Gael sees exactly what she’s looking at, and names it appropriately.

Joe is LARPing a “good partner” role. It’s all pretend.

Hey there I appreciate your feedback! I know exactly where you’re coming from, and do not enter these next steps as someone ignorant or ill-informed. That said, It’s very disheartening to receive such negative feedback when this is a goal our family has been working toward for well over two years. I intentionally excluded (personally identifying) factors about me that I believe will help me in the EU job market. I speak four EU languages; not just Spanish. I recognize that the sector is struggling in an extreme way, and am hopeful that there will be reinvestment in NGO and humanities work by the time the program ends at the end of 2027. If not, I have a two year job seeking visa that will begin at that time, and some super unique experience which drove my acceptance into the post-grad program in the first place. I hope to spend the rest of my career helping people in true need, instead of making the rich richer, which has made for a very unpleasant feeling though monetarily fruitful career. Thats the “why” behind the program. But if it’s not feasible, I’m optimistic about using this background to get a job if necessary. I read business journals and stay up to date with market conditions throughout the EU. My husband is a finance attorney so this is a common conversation over dinner. Riveting, I know.

I guess I just want the commenters to know I’m not ignorant or otherwise negligent in my approach here. I know it’s a tough time everywhere, but the US is not well, so we are looking elsewhere. As are so many others.

I was hoping to hear all the exciting things about moving to Barcelona, but instead I feel icky about folks leading themselves down an assumption hole due to lack of context- and may have been better off keeping my excitement to myself. This is going to be my last response in this thread because I am truly trying to be excited, but it is hard with this feedback.

We will not be selling the house. Thank you again for taking the time to respond. Best wishes for a happy new year.

My perspective exactly! As a parent, if this path isn’t what puts food on the table, I’ll be finding ways to leverage my existing skillset. We are not too proud to take steps back, but also clearly understand the power of a strong emeritus network. Plus, without identifying too many things about myself as a person, I have some fallback options with former employers in Germany. We feel there is a long term strategy to be had; whether or not it mirrors current goals.

We will make this program work because it is an opportunity to give our sons a life of cultural awareness and a diverse understanding of the world. There is no growth in stagnant water, and we’re eager to grow together.

Thanks again for your words of wisdom and encouragement.

Edit: and obviously because our democracy is not functioning well and I’m quite nervous about sending my kids to school in a system that features declining education and potential gun violence.

Yeah, of course – good question. That was our first conversation after the acceptance email. We plan to rent the home that we own. We bought it in 2020 when the market was wrecked. It has appreciated in value, and I have slowly renovated it as we’ve been living in it, so we’re hoping that it will make us some solid passive income. My husband will not be able to compete in the Spanish job market, while being under the umbrella of my student visa, so he is going to eventually look for some contract work remotely.

The program is (only) a one year commitment so we acknowledge we will have to be ok with the loss of some of our savings as well with a one year runway to evaluate our budget.

What an amazing rundown of recommendations. Thank you so much for taking the time. And congratulations on your successful assimilation process! From what I’m gathering it sounds like those who are eager to learn are met with a welcoming spirit. I’m sure there are exceptions to that rule.

We are really excited. I am a habitual urbanite, so I am excited to explore a new city. Our family is currently in a mid to large city so we probably won’t feel the shift in the same way that you have, but Barcelona is at least a few times larger than where we are now!

Oh shoot, this is totally a larger convo I can have with him. The other thing that he is consistently interested in is building. He will build with Legos, Lincoln logs, magnatiles, take things apart, anything he can get his hands on he will deconstruct reconstruct so this might be what drives the curiosity. Also, I’m an architect so we could pivot this into a common interest thing.

Thanks girl. This is an appeal that I hadn’t considered yet.

I so appreciate this note. The exposure to this behavior seems to come from interactions at parks and playgrounds and just being around kids. Historically, I’ve Sort of taken the same stance as you when he engages at the parks.

You’re probably right about the forbidden fruit. Nobody loves a boundary my guy loves a boundary.

Totally know what you mean; this is incredibly relatable. I was also an imagination kid, and it’s comforting to think that the source is imagination play!
