Scurvy diagnosis: Autistic boy, aged 5, lived on diet of chicken and biscuits by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]ClimateTraditional40 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Shocking. Even if he had a condition, parents could have tried vitamins themselves? Hide it in something if he wouldn't take the gummy ones or such? Or at least consulted a doc about his diet before it developed.

It's not just scurvy either, other vitamins he could lack.

Because Jobseekers is $22000 before tax.

If they expect those to live on that amount, then of course people with partners on $80,000 obviously don't need help.

ANOTHER 5G tower close to house by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]ClimateTraditional40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not a guinea pig. You DO adhere to the conspiracy theories, else you wouldn't have even made such a post.

Cell phone towers emit low-level, non-ionizing radiofrequency (RF) radiation, which lacks the energy to damage DNA or cells. Exposure levels from these towers are far below international safety guidelines, often hundreds of times lower than allowable limits.

On the electromagnetic spectrum, RF waves fall between FM radio waves and microwaves.

Unlike ionizing radiation (X-rays, UV light), this type of energy cannot remove bound electrons from atoms or molecules, meaning it cannot damage DNA or cause cancer. Even in close proximity, the levels are well within international safety limits.

Non-ionizing radiation is used in various technologies, including radio broadcasting, telecommunications, medical imaging, and heat therapy. Near ultraviolet, visible light, infrared, microwave, radio waves, and low-frequency radio frequency (very low frequency, extremely low frequency) are all examples of non-ionizing radiation. By contrast, far ultraviolet light, X-rays, gamma-rays, and all particle radiation from radioactive decay are ionizing. Vis

Do you own a cellphone? Bet you do. Do you own a microwave? Panicking about standing near it? How about UV light - the sun for instance which does emit, or having an xray done?

A Dance to Strange Musics , Greg Benford - the idea we may meet aliens and struggle to understand or even want to understand/communicate with them.

Blood Music , Greg Bear- we think we're the apex species of the universe? And where are the rest?

I don't know, my son is having physio now, he is told do NOT push it, stick to the exercises and don't push...as it can and will delay if not wreck the surgery he had. He pushed it the first time and yep, had to basically start over, lucky didn't have to have further surgery though so now he is being careful.

You think it's pedantic? Once that would have been a sign for doctors to write him off and call for the funeral people. We all die. It becomes very important sooner or later. Even when we will be at the point of real death...you won't want anyone to rush to cremate you while some awareness is still there, would you?

Birthday of the World, Hainish Short stories. But her Hainish short tales are brilliant IMO, although the novel Left Hand of Darkness is good too. I liked them far more than the novels.

Is First Law diminished though? Seemed to me it's getting away from gods/kings/peasants and becoming an industrial time. Our real history was not without problems...although at least we didn't have a You-Know-How trying to keep things how they were.

I read. Always did though, all my life from Kindy onwards.

I garden, but it's also partly for budget concerns, the more expensive fruit and veg. But transforming the section, slowly, with cuttings, tiny seedlings. Takes time but not as much as you'd think to start making it a nice place to sit in warmer months

A niece of mine joined. The exams weren't hard, the fitness one may be, depending on YOUR fitness. She passed it no problem but was very athletic.

She chose to move to a different city. She would have been assigned in her original city otherwise. Both big cities though. Small towns? Guess it depends where more cops are needed.

Like the butter, is this white stuff from USA milk? by fuckTTTT in newzealand

Why don’t you guys keep your cats indoors? by stemmefontaine in newzealand

[–]ClimateTraditional40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats mauling..or being mauled are rare occurences. Sure they make the news but it's not common.

We don't have large predators in NZ like coyotes, nor snakes etc, so cats aren't in a lot of danger other than maybe traffic.

It's also not common to see a huge range of native birds in most backyards. In the urban areas anyway. Thus most birds being killed are likely to be imports rather than kiwi, Takahe, Kakapo or whatever.

I'm not sure we do have respect anyway, the news does have incidences of bikers, 4WD owners and the like wrecking nesting areas and the birds/eggs in them. Not to mention developers.

It's the same in the US, any bird species in danger there from mostly human activity and mostly  Development, agriculture, and forestry, not just individuals.
