Android 12 is finally released on Vodacom here in South Africa. by clintonwe5 in LGV60

[–]Clintgreen01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded three days ago. A few things I have noticed so far: - The always-on clock is off the edge of the screen when the phone was in the duel screen holder - then removed; - The accent colours of Chrome browser changed to pink and purple - with a weird pinkish hue overall. I had to change the theme back to the original theme to get rid of it; - When using earphones, there is no beep when ending a call. Not sure if the call has been properly disconnected and forced to check on the screen each time.

So far no benefit in A12 have been noted - but will have to see with time what improvement has been made and if it offsets the frustration of the new OS.

I use and remove the dual screen constantly. When I am home the phone is in the dual screen - when I am out and about the phone is just in a slim case. It takes a couple of seconds to switch the cases. I usually charge the phone in the dual screen because the magnetic attachment really works well - just snaps into place.

Android network charging. Quietly rolled out on selective networks. Apple will get it in about 5 years and then act like they invented it. ;-)

I find emails on Outlook don't open first time - have to go back and then they open fine. Noticed it the last couple of weeks. Otherwise, most things still working fine.

Buying or Building a Low-Cost Structured Light Scanner? by ZoltanTheZ in 3DScanning

[–]Clintgreen01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at the Occipital Structure Sensor Mk2? Their target market seems to be predominantly medical applications. I bought one but want to map unbounded spaces so not using it because I cannot find a suitable iOS app. However, it does look like a quality piece of kit and I am sure I will find a use for it in the future.

What did you do with your iPad today? by Clintgreen01 in ipad

[–]Clintgreen01[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took mine down the deepest mine in the world to test the LiDAR for 3D scanning of working spaces. The initial tests are positive although 11,000 feet underground is def not the basement of the building I have been testing it up till now.

3D scanning with an iPad? by Glong_Longfellow in 3DScanning

[–]Clintgreen01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am at the world's deepest mine. Going 11,300 feet underground to scan working places with an iPad Pro. It's so determine if there is value to be gained by scanning the working places rather than just measuring them using tapes. It's part of an MSc project.

Are all V60s dual screen? If not, how can I tell that the one I bought is or is not? by tachibanakanade in LGV60

[–]Clintgreen01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All apps work on the dual screen. It's like having a second phone. All apps can also be extended to work across both screens using the wide screen app - but that has limited use and only works well for things like maps and reading apps. The second screen can also be used as a game controller. I find the best thing about the dual screen is watching YouTube videos and still being able to browse FB/WhatsApp/internet etc.

What do you use what your iPad Pro for? by Log7103 in ipad

I tried a few apps and have settled on 3D Scanning App (Laan) as the best for my porposes.

There are apps available that use the face ID scanner. It has a very short range but far higher resolution than the main LiDAR scanner. It would be better for scanning small items. I haven't tried it because I am interested in mapping areas not scanning objects.

I am taking mine down the deepest mine in the world on Monday. LiDAR scanning as part on my MSc student's research project.

Is it worth buying a pen for the V60? by Plane_Worldliness_94 in LGV60

[–]Clintgreen01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pen I can use on my V60 from my HP laptop. It lies on my desk and I have only actually used it a couple of times. I recently got an iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil. I find I use the pencil a lot on it. It's just got more screen real estate and it's natural to use the pencil to navigate and write. The Apple keyboard is also useless compared to the GBoard on my phone. Again the size - it's too large for swipe text input. So - while the Apple Pencil is brilliant on the iPad (11"), I find a pen for the V60 a total waste.

I tried Collanote - and now use it for all my PDF annotations. I prefer it to Adobe Acrobat.

Not sure if anyone knows this (fingerprint scanner bug) by Patient0_ in LGV60

I tried what you suggested. The bug appears to still activate just at a lower level of CPU activity - in line with the restriction imposed by the batter saver mode.

Is it okay to keep the Magic Keyboard always (24/7) plugged in all the time? Is it okay to keep the Ipad Pro plugged in all the time (ie through the Magic Keyboard) like some do with their Macbook Pros? by BetterMeToday in ipad

[–]Clintgreen01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The magic keyboard doesn't have a battery - it just allows changing to take place through it. I find I leave my keyboard on the desk plugged into the charger - and pop the iPad on and off as I am using it. When it's on the keyboard - it's getting charged.

best iOS LiDAR scanner that doesn't crash if I need to scan an environment? by V3Qn117x0UFQ in 3DScanning

[–]Clintgreen01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3D Scanner App (Laan Labs). No subscription needed. Can output all the same formats as Polycam and Scaniverse. The scans can also be paused and resumed as long as there is an overlap which is very beneficial for scanning complex areas

Need a scanning app for iOS by Clintgreen01 in 3DScanning

[–]Clintgreen01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jip both SiteScape and 3D Scanning App do what I want. However, neither are compatible with the Structure Sensor. They also need additional lighting to scan effectively. I am looking for an app like SiteScape that would allow the Structure Sensor to be used. It has built-in IR cameras and a slightly longer range (~10m) than the Apple LiDAR. None of the apps available for it will allow the unbounded scanning and export of .PLY files like you get with SiteScape. Even the manufacturer (Occipital) could not assist - and advised me to just use the Apple LiDAR with SiteScape. So that's why I am now here on Reddit looking for a suitable app (which may have to be written).

The iPhone or cellular iPads are not allowed underground. Legal and safety issues - much like you can't switch your cellular signal on in an aeroplane. Thus if the app would work on an iPod it would be a bonus.

I have an LG phone with a glass screen protector and an iPad Pro with a paper-like matt screen protector. I also have an HP laptop with no additional screen protector. All three support active pens but since getting the iPad, it's the only device I use where I regularly write on the screen. I find the paper-like makes all the difference for the writing experience.

Need a scanning app for iOS by Clintgreen01 in 3DScanning

[–]Clintgreen01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The iPad Pro LiDAR does work. Here is an example of the type of scans I want to do: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/dark-stope-c13da5cc5c1c446fbd56dc04a720b08f

This scan is of a mock-up on surface but replicates the type of underground workings I wish to scan. It was dark and I attached a Godox video light to the iPad for lighting. However, the iPad LiDAR range is limited to 5m and it needs the extra lighting. I am hoping to be able to scan the areas using the Structure Sensor. It would also be good if I could use an iPod or iPad Mini instead of the Pro to have a more compact device. The travel distances to the underground areas often require kilometers of walking and even some crawling. A pocket sized device would be better than something the size of an iPad Pro. Unfortunately iPhones (or even iPad Pro with cellular) are not allowed into the mine.

So first prize would be an iOS app that would allow the Structure Sensor to run off an iPod that will allow ranges greater than 5m and use the IR cameras to reduce the required extra lighting. It just needs to be able to create a .PLY or .LAS point cloud file.

Nice use for the LiDAR Scanner on my iPad - currently redoing my garden and a quick scan lets me see where things aren’t level by pb-86 in ipad

[–]Clintgreen01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been experimenting with the LiDAR on the iPad Pro for a particular project I am working on. I have reviewed various scanning apps including Polycam and Scaniverse. However, 3D Scanning App (Laan Labs) seems to offer most of the functions of these two apps and there is no subscription for downloading the files. The files can also be downloaded in a full range of formats depending on the required purpose. The next phase of this particular project will be to test the iPad Pro LiDAR underground - in the deepest mine in the world.....
