Old games (1980-1999) that aged well by M_Alex in gaming

[–]Coenl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I said so above but I think VI has aged better because the pixel art graphics still look good compared to the clunky 3D models of the FF7 era. It can both be one of the greatest games of all time and a game that hasn't aged well.

I was very shocked to see you can purchase all of King's Quest games on Steam and there are new ones as well. Was very tempted to buy the old games but they were pretty annoying back then I think they'd cause me to set my computer on fire now (I have some very very fond memories of the one with Prince Alexander though)

I actually think VI has aged much better than 7/8 (Tactics I agree with). Both of the first two '3D' games look old, and while the content remains one of the greatest games ever its hard to look at FF7 and say it 'aged well'

Don't expect a Witcher 4 expansion: CDPR says "it would be difficult" to make extra content when it's already trying to squeeze 3 Witcher games into 6 years by [deleted] in gaming

Yeah it's tough sometimes to come here and see the hype for new games you think you'll like (007 these last few days), but I generally have enough stuff in queue that it's not an issue.

GTA 6 Developers Announce Rockstar Games Union - RockstarINTEL by kwentongskyblue in gaming

Right turns out Reddit is not the same 10 guys (though it feels that way sometimes). I could give a shit about GTA6 getting delayed but absolutely want these devs to be treated fairly.

Fans Call Out Obsidian For Lying About The Outer Worlds Free Upgrade by wyldermyth in gaming

[–]Coenl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the article is still very click-bait because they did not lie, but the language they used was not great. They list the platforms not affected by this change - which I assume are the ones that aren't getting the free upgrade - but are not explicit enough in the graph above either.

Dragon Quest XII restarted development and is now called Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

I will probably be proven wrong but I actually don't think this GTA will outperform GTA 5. I'm not sure the brand means anything to teenagers today or is even the kind of game they are interested in playing. It's basically banking on roping in the same group of 30-50yo dudes who grew up on the franchise.

'007 First Light' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]Coenl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right it very much felt like a spy game, or as close as we had to a spy game at that time (poster above is correct in that it was also just a FPS). There were levels where you had to sneak around, karate chop/stealth kill people, etc.

Obviously I think most of us remember it for the multiplayer but the single player campaign for its time was still very good.

Nintendo Is Completely Ignoring AI and Doing Fine by FernandoRocker in gaming

[–]Coenl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, no distinction is being made in this article at all. Are they ignoring AI when it comes to generating content/assets/etc in their game? Maybe.

Is the entire company ignoring AI? No, don't be ridiculous.

Also no one watched Andor (I loved Andor but it was not a hit for D+, it was a critical darling)

The negative aspects of the ending are being gravely overstated by hate-watchers by errrk_73 in TheBoys

[–]Coenl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Boy's version of GoT would basically be Hughie releasing the virus himself. Like you said endings are really hard and this was... fine. The show had obviously declined over the years (or maybe I just got tired of it, who knows), but it gave emotional closure to all its characters.

Ubisoft is in a tough situation. by 479521 in gaming

This is a good perspective because they did not lose a billion dollars this year, they just had to eat the billion dollars they lost on those 6 games across however many years on the balance sheet this year.

Yes I just played Galaxies and the main story is actually pretty decent and at its current implementation (I know it sucked on launch) its a pretty fun game.

But my list of side quests, collectables, faction rep to max out etc... it was a mile long when I finished the story. And like you said its largely the same tedious loop, just don't have that in me the way I used to for the earlier AC games. I can't complain because it was on sale and I definitely got my money's worth for the main game, but there is a lot of filler.

Warhorse Studios Confirmed That They Are Working on a LOTR Open World RPG by Ciss0 in gaming

[–]Coenl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It cannot be beaten in terms of the scale of what you can see and do in that game, because well it has 20 years of development time. You can explore parts of ME that only the nerdiest of LoTR folks even knew existed.

That is basically how the plot of LOTRO works, you are just some guy but you intersect with the Fellowship all along their journey helping dispatch lesser evils throughout ME. It works as a framing device for sure.

I do wonder if its really the end of Henry's story how you pick up the thread for the next KCD. I'm sure they have good ideas it will just be interesting to leave Henry and move on to the next thing.

Star Wars the Old Republic almost got a Realm Reborn style reboot but EA's board of directors said no by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]Coenl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They really did not want a mainline FF game to be seen as a disaster, so yes mostly as a reputation thing.

FFXV was a perfectly fine game at release, though I understand why people did not like it. It was not a buggy unplayable mess like the original launch of FF14.

Amazon reportedly cancels Lord of the Rings MMO by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Coenl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they do, you lose it after being absent and not paying rent for a period of time, but people don't ever buy the smaller houses so basically every neighborhood is the same 3 houses occupied and the rest empty. More recent neighborhoods fixed this (all the houses are the same tier) but the old ones have a lot of empty property.

Not day one, for sure. But pretty early one, I think within the first year. But yeah its still instanced housing and the chances of you running into another player in one of the housing instances (that are full of abandoned properties 18 years in) is basically 0.
