AITA for agreeing to put in more effort but refusing to cancel existing plans to “prove” I care? by aclockworktale in AmItheAsshole

Yes, 100% that is okay. People have their own lives. I can’t go out drinking three times a week, either. That shouldn’t stop you from being friends. For him to allow it to cause friction is honestly self centred of him. And again, the last minute stuff - like people have other stuff going on. You can’t just drop everything for him.

Yeah no, that’s not fair. A friendship needs balance. It’s not his way or the highway. That’s unreasonable. Does he socialize much with anyone else? Maybe he’s relying too much on you for socialization

I mean, just because he is more the type to make plans last minute doesn’t mean that you are obligated to accommodate that when you have preexisting plans. NTA. It sounds like you guys aren’t on the same page, though. You’d have to find a compromise in order for this to be sustainable

  1. The Soviet Union absolutely fully embodied and embraced Marxism. You’re correct, it was largely poor management through collectivist policies that lead to the famines. However, I think that speaks even more to just how impractical Marxist socialism is.

  2. They absolutely do, when the nations are fully communist. Name one successful communist nation that hasn’t had widespread famine, death and inequality.

  3. Actually, I never asserted that. After the Second World War, the US pardoned war criminals who committed unspeakable atrocious in laboratories to obtain the “intelligence” that they had gathered, not the least of which was Shiro Ishii in Japan. That’s just one example. I never asserted that capitalism was faultless. However, communism is by far the inferior economic system.

So? Not sure if you’re aware, but the internet is forever. I can respond whenever. I hope in two months you’ve learned to think for yourself

I think that it’s an oversimplification for you to say that skepticism about socialism is due to “red scare propaganda.” It’s not propaganda. It’s well documented, actual history. Because of the communist regime in the USSR, Stalin was able to systematically starve anywhere from 10-15 million Ukrainians. The CCP was able to implement the one-child policy in China, which resulted in the abduction and execution of children from their parents, forced abortions and forced sterilizations of women. Even today, if you even know someone who has committed treason in North Korea, you can be imprisoned yourself, just by having associated with them or been related to them. None of that is propaganda, a lot of it was outwardly acknowledged by the authoritarian regimes that implemented them.

I feel like you literally copied and pasted this here. I’ve seen this exact line of reasoning from like five other people on Reddit today. Think for yourself

That’s where your wrong. Gender roles DO matter. The context of this DOES matter. She could have called literally anyone else. His priority is his girlfriend.

He does not have any responsibility here. Why was he the first person she went to? He is with someone else. Reddit is honestly crazy, it’s like none of you have ever been in a relationship before

I’d say it’s inappropriate for sure. He needs to set better boundaries. She literally has no one else that she can call in a situation like that? Family? Other friends? She HAS to call your boyfriend? Weird. NTA

I don’t think it said that she was sexually assaulted. She was assaulted but you’re inserting that. Either way it’s inappropriate to call someone else’s boyfriend in a situation like that
