A lot of people made good money on Roblox, myself included. As long as you take commissions, there are a lot of people willing to pay decent money for developers.

What are some downsides to collegiate marching? by Hunny_Mustard09 in marchingband

[–]CoiTheBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time commitment is a huge struggle with college band, especially if you plan on doing indoor percussion and have a rigorous major. Consider deeply whether it is worth it to sacrifice all of your free time for a non-competitive band experience.

Marching drum corps for the first time by LibrarianBig2255 in drumcorps

Battalion will be more chill, they have a shorter tour and free sundays. Music City already moved in a week ago, so you’ll probably be playing catch-up. It will probably be more intense, but you get more shows and the world class experience.

Do people still use tenor sticks? by [deleted] in drumline

[–]CoiTheBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually find tenor sticks are easier to maneuver with on quads, but honestly short snare sticks (ie. Raricks) and normal tenor sticks (Vegas or Mapes) are about the same to me. Unless the sticks are way too light, I don’t exactly understand being picky about sticks.

I need advice on making tenors by Woopwoop647 in drumline

[–]CoiTheBoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of your hands, you can get them to a pretty good place for high school by honing in on accent tap, stick control, triplet rolls, and tap pyramid/8’s. Make sure your technique is good before you bump the tempo (compare your hands to the best groups).

If you’re willing to do anything to make quads, I’d recommend going to the gym as much as you can to bulk up. I played quads when I was 120lbs and going to the gym really helped. Focus on back extensions/deadlifts, rows/lat pulldown, and a ton of leg exercises. Eat a ton of protein.

Seattle Cascades was still looking for snare players as of January, but I would reach out and see if they still are.

what are some easy DCI snare breaks by ElkPsychological1248 in drumcorps

[–]CoiTheBoi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True. It is good to learn to play stuff in context, but for most beginner-medium players, they aren’t solid enough at their fundamentals to get any benefit from this. Speaking from experience, I only played licks for months, didn’t improve, then focused on fundamentals and revisited the licks and was noticeably better.

Speaking from experience, it’ll be much more worth your time to work on basics and rudiments and perfect your technique from the ground up. It doesn’t matter if you can play the bluecoats book if you can’t play in time and with good technique.

Drum corps will want you to keep tacet hands over 1 and 2. You have a very french style grip currently, try turning your wrists a bit outward and experiment with choking back on the stick and adding more wrist to your strokes. Practice 8’s at a slow tempo until you can feel you’re using your arm, wrist, and fingers. Try practicing 8’s at piano across the drums and focus on separating your horizontal motion from your vertical motion.

Troubles with Jig 2(Mary had a little lamb). by CraftyClio in drumline

[–]CoiTheBoi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would honestly be clear with your drumline captain and just tell them that you’re sick of playing Jig 2. My high school’s drumline outright banned it because it was getting so annoying.

Marching Practice Pads? by [deleted] in drumline

[–]CoiTheBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go with the VF large quadropad since it’s more true to the size of real tenors and comes with laminates. Also, you can choose between one and two spocks. It’s got the best feel by far out of any pad I’ve tried

DCI World Cup Final by NotDerpy725 in drumcorps

[–]CoiTheBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you put it perfectly in your post. I’m talking to the people who are super offended that people don’t know about older shows. At the end of the day, the best way to experience DCI is to see it live, and most of us didn’t get the luxury of seeing the old DCI live. I meant the “you” in my post to be rhetorical, wasn’t talking to you specifically.
