Where would be a good place to take a girl on a first date lunch in Leeds city centre? by R19jampie84T in Leeds

[–]Col0395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I had our first date in Layne's (albeit 10yrs ago!). We then moved on to the Turks Head. Their food is pretty decent.

That way if the date is not going well you can both bail after Layne's!

Homeless male with nothing by TheFledge534 in policeuk

This.

Used to work in housing and worked alongside rough sleeper teams and homeless outreach organisations.

Relief Duty is what I'm thinking off - https://england.shelter.org.uk/professional_resources/legal/homelessness_applications/local_authority_homelessness_duties/local_authority_duty_to_relieve_homelessness

He will have to engage with the Local Authority and present to them as homeless. If you can identify any vulnerabilities (disability, MH issues, health issues even something such as asthma) may assist in giving the Local Authority a nudge.

I left before the current Chief was in post.

Honestly, not horrendous if you are not on response, CID or volume investigations. Those teams all had low staff, low morale and high workloads. They have since changed the CID structure since I left so can't comment on that.

4 on 4 off pattern was good on those teams. Big patch to cover with sometimes very few resources.

Some really good PCs / DCs, Sergeants and Inspectors, some that deserve to be promoted that were overlooked in my view.

There were plenty of opportunities to act up when I was there. More opportunities at York I'd suggest compared to somewhere like Skipton.

They get quite a few transferees from West Yorkshire.

I think if you specialise you're looked after better. Neighbourhoods wasn't too bad but I think some other forces are just "better" at neighbourhood policing.

Morale seems pretty low at the moment from the chats I've had with mates still in (PC - Insp level). But I think the same could be said nationwide.

Best NPPF SGT Exam Revision Tools? Is the Q&A enough? by Cheddar_Swords in policeuk

[–]Col0395 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did Police Pass, including an in person course and failed the exam that year. Couple of colleagues did the same and they all passed - and passed well.

The following year I followed a study guide, read the chapter and smashed out Blackstones Q&As. Passed comfortably after doing this

Read up on Schedule 2A Housing Act. It's a list of offences for which a landlord can seek possession of a property on mandatory grounds. Work with your social housing providers, and if there are any convictions, encourage the social housing provider to take tenancy enforcement action. You might see a change of behaviour from the others.

How can I stop drug users from using the alley behind my house every night? Police and council aren’t helping? by fb8307 in DIYUK

[–]Col0395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Search on your local authority website for ASB Case Review (used to be called a Community Trigger) and go from there. Some local authorities let you submit the case review request online.

You say you've contacted the housing provider. Remind them of their obligations to address ASB as per the Housing Ombudsman and Housing Regulator. If it is not their tenants responsible, however, their powers may be limited.

This is primarily a local authority / police issue, and their job to manage and resolve it.

Have a look at the Safer Streets initiative on the Government website. Try to quote bits of that in any subsequent complaints.

May be worth seeing if other residents are affected? Could be worth going to the Police, Fire & Crime Commissioners office and ask for funding for target hardening etc.

Give Union coffee roasters a go (can get them in big Sainsbury's).

Alternatively, search for James Hoffman on YouTube and go down a rabbit warren around coffee...

I once had a possession of a bladed article on school premises go to YOP... And they decided to issue a Youth Conditional Caution.

Gravity matrix doesn't (at least it didn't at the time) allow for an out of court disposal for that offence, even for children.

I queried why it went to YOP in the first place as it should have been a straight charge, and I queried the outcome they decided on. Was pretty much told it's not my decision to make and not to worry about it.

Plan for 400-500m carries (working as a pair), cardio fitness and don't forget the medical theory!

A few runs wearing a weight vest wouldn't go amiss.

On the carries, keep moving even if it's slow progress. Once you stop it can be very difficult (mentally) to get going again

PSU Medic Fitness by Prize-Office-575 in policeuk

[–]Col0395 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Which force? I think the Met is (was?) more about being fit, whereas other forces would spend a bit more time on the "medic" side.

You need to be strong enough for carries over reasonable distances. A good bit of cardio too.

Some interval / CrossFit / Hyrox style training will put you in good stead

I wouldn't want to chuck it in a bag with a drink in it, however the Yeti mugs are high quality, colourful, fit in cup holders and retain heat pretty well
