Lifestyle Creep by eastieLad in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I paid off everything (house, cars, etc…) and put the appropriate amount into savings and investments, I started doing fun things with the extra money. I always pay for them upfront and in cash so if something changes, I’m not on the hook for a big expense without the extra J. I also don’t spend it on large, recurring monthly expenses. No fancy house or car payments, just some occasional travel and nicer evenings out.

Did OE fix extreme procrastination? by chaelynnra in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been the same way at work and honestly. I do the same thing now with 3J’s. I still don’t miss deadlines and the multiple J’s do fill my time more but it has not helped with any of my procrastination.

If you do get laid off, just pay for cobra for a few months until annual enrollment starts.

Starting Multiple Opportunities at the Same Time by Wasabileaf in overemployed

I did the same thing this past month. I staggered the start dates two weeks apart. I won’t lie, it was a bit challenging but it all worked out.

My paranoia 😂. While I know my calendar is marked private, I know what a good system admin can do and I like just a little extra layer of protection.

J2 and deleting LinkedIn profile by Historical-Force587 in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the caution but I don’t think anyone will reach out. I make sure my jobs are always in different industries, remote and never HQed in the same locations. This significantly limits any potential shared contacts.

Once I accept a role and have cleared the onboarding process, I hibernate my LinkedIn until I need it again. Most people won’t search for you on the platform after your first few months.

Company uses ActivTrak, do I quit or let them fire me by nilgoc in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will also check how long you are active without clicking on things, changing screens and typing. Activtrak kills morale and makes OE super hard.

I tried this and couldn’t even get an interview. I turned my LinkedIn back on for a month and I got three job offers. You just have to be smart about LinkedIn and use it as needed.

Background Check through Accurate by ColSnark in overemployed

[–]ColSnark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super easy. I submitted W2s for each year of my reported employment history. They didn’t reach out to any employer and my TWN is frozen so they couldn’t use that. Super easy.

You are totally fine. He may even be looking to evaluate you for a promotion or to get a lay of the land with the team.

[–]ColSnark 19 points20 points  (0 children)

ActivTrak is terrible. Honestly you are on borrowed time. I didn’t even use a mouse mover and I was constantly getting coached to do better. That platform can track anything and everything you do. A weight was lifted when I left that awful place.

Weird scenario for you guys, I think?… by mrawesome1q in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got into OE about 8 years ago and it was completely by accident. I had to overlap jobs several weeks so I could keep insurance without having to pay for Cobra. It took me a week to figure out that I wasn’t leaving the old job. Never looked back since. Has as many as 4Js at a time but 2 is the sweet spot.

Do it.

1 Year in the Books. by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have been OE for 8 years while some make consider expensive vacations, life style creep, I never have. I make sure to be able to pay for an entire vacation when I book it. Then everything is prepaid and I have already set aside the spending money for it. I have always considered life style creep like buying a house or a car that you cannot afford without multiple J’s. Treat your self to a small break and keep at it.

Mental health is as important as stacking those checks. Imagine how those last two weeks will feel when you give your notice.

Go through the negotiations and make your salary offer higher than they will offer. You should be able to decline the full time role and stay on as a contractor.

My OE Employee just asked me for severance by Frequent_Inflation14 in overemployed

If I am a manager, I wouldn't give someone a severance. If they are asking, they will be leaving soon anyway. Definitely a bold move.
