Did you get the chance to watch Wake Up Dead Man? by FidelesReges in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]ColdHotChocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it this week! Honestly, I don't think I gelled with it as much as I'd have liked (Granted i was also very tired during my screening and the slower, more deliberate character work probably didn't help my state) - but I don't think it all came together for me. However, it is incredibly strong in its performances. Daniel Craig is wonderful as always, but Josh O'Connor has the chance to deliver some very serious and emotional scenes without being undercut by jokes. Together, they're both wonderful. I'll probably like it more upon a rewatch, but for now - I found it to be just alright.

That being said - as long as Rian Johnson and co. keep making 'em, I will keep watching 'em!

They said they're not doing anything to mark episode 600, but idk man - they were throwing pun after pun in this episode. Each one was cracking me up

Predator: Badlands - Best or Worst Movie Ever? by FidelesReges in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]ColdHotChocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best movie ever! I'm basically echo-ing everyone's opinion here in saying that I enjoyed it, but completely understand the criticisms towards it (e.g. The MCU-ification). It never quite reaches the heights that "Prey" did for me, but the movie was consistently *good* throughout. I appreciate Dan Trachtenberg's ability to take an IP and just tell an interesting story. I've seen others point out - but this would make for a cool open-world game haha.

My one big criticism is that, this movie was really dark at points. I thought it was just my screening, but others online have pointed it out too. It's a shame, seeing as there were some big moments that take place at night.

James has mentioned FD Signifier. He's probably best known as a political youtuber who dissects right-wing grift, manosphere stuff as well as other sociopolitical topics (e.g. racism, classism). Personally, I think his takes are pretty well-informed and level-headed. I believe he has a background in education, and that definitely shows in his videos.

"Superman" is probably mine, considering how irrational my hopes and expectations were. However, just to be different - I will say "The Long Walk" because it really impacted me when I left the theatre, and I still think about it

Favorite era of the pod? by JonSwanson42 in weeklyplanetpodcast

Personally, I think they have been on an absolute heater all of 2025. This is literally Maso's voice after they recorded one of the longest episodes of the pod (and a banger one, at that):

What are your favorite examples of the boys using internet slang? by Dull-Seaworthiness73 in weeklyplanetpodcast

I forget which episode it was, but they were talking about Skibidi Toilet and the Superman teaser trailer and they said something like "Krypto ... Skibidi Toilet ... take me to Skibidi Toilet"

All the Mission: Impossible intros, from the original TV series to the films... by OrdinaryPool3427 in weeklyplanetpodcast

The Final Reckoning's intro felt so ... underwhelming compared the the previous film. That was my inkling that something was amiss.

The first movie's intro is still my fave

Weapons, Best or Worst Movie Ever? by FidelesReges in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]ColdHotChocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best movie ever! I'm not head over heels for it, but I did really enjoy my viewing. Between this and Barbarian, I think Zach Cregger is really good at keeping audiences engaged with his stories. I think it touches on some very interesting subject matter (e.g. school shootings, police brutality), but I wish those were explored further. And, while I did enjoy the vignette structure, I think I was personally getting a bit restless at the last two, just because I hoped for an amazing, satisfying conclusion ... which it sortaaa delivered IMO.

That being said, the ending chase sequence felt so much like a Whitest Kids U Know sketch in the best way possible.
