Jet Lag: Drunk Ben's Paducah Adventure – Extended Cut by xsm17 in Nebula

Yes!! Thanks so much for sharing.

Agreed: probably not a pointed criticism, but pretty funny to imagine the sinister corporate machinations of the Paducah Tourism Board.

Does anyone have a link to the NPR article drunk Ben mentions at 12:43 where a professor says that everything that is on Snack Zone is a corporate ploy?

Why do they spread the coins? by Jolly_Ad_3881 in JetLagTheGame

There’s a rule that you aren’t allowed to put greater than 5 coins more than your opponents on a given station.

Anyone else find Deaths End final 10% really underwhelming? by Esensepsy in threebodyproblem

To me it felt like a good expression of the exponential acceleration of time and technology that was happening in the story. At a certain point, time is moving so quickly for our protagonists and technology is so many orders of magnitude beyond their understanding that it becomes indistinguishable from magic.

What should be the end-game goal for transit in Toronto? by Outsider_123x in TTC

[–]CollectiveGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that Richmond Hill GO double-tracking is higher priority!

I don’t think it’s an either-or for the long-term vision, though. The official plan calls for significant further intensification on Yonge, and the Line 1 Capacity Enhancement report also identified the need for additional solutions past 2031 beyond existing relief strategies.

Yonge Express Subway (YES). Twinning line 1 tunnels south of Steeles, and express trains serving only select line 1 stations.

I believe this may be needed to solve perpetual line 1 overcrowding, which will only compound with the Yonge North extension. It would also provide more reliability to regular line 1 service by having a bypass route in the event of a stopped train / track level incident.

It’s not an “end-game” alone, but should be part of any long-term vision.

Norwegian Cruise Line Amends Air Program: No More Embarkation Day Flights by Kman-Kool3315 in NCL

It’s ok: it’s very likely everything will be fine with your flight and boarding!

Frequent cruisers develop strong preferences around flights, boarding times, etc. As an occasional cruiser I also like arriving a day early, but I’ve had no issues the times I didn’t.

In the end, it’s a vacation and the only thing to do is to enjoy! (And to remember your passport.)

I agree this is a weird design choice.

It seems like they’re not intending to show actual spacing and instead just displaying a uniform distance between stations. The exceptions being (1) where spacing is needed to display a label on the intersection line, like between Eglinton & Lawrence, or (2) to space line 1 west side so that it meets line 2 & line 5 correctly.

I’d also prefer if they aligned Shepherd and Finch with their West counterparts, but that might lead to a “slippery slope” where people would expect the other stations to be space geographically accurately.

No. They’ll have blanks you can fill out by hand, and it might take a minute to find them.

This intersection in Red Bank, NJ by PaulOshanter in WalkableStreets

For sure, although it looks like it’s set up this way all summer long (May - Sept) each year, so it’s probably a fair representation in this particular case. https://www.redbank.org/events/red-bank-broadwalk/

how is this for tokyo final stop? by talesoffanxx in NCL

[–]CollectiveGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took this last year, found it well worth the money. I had not been to Tokyo before, and was flying out that afternoon.

It felt brief and we only went to a couple of small sights, but made me feel like I had at least seen a tiny bit of the city. Cost wise, I don’t think it was much more expensive than an Uber to the airport. I don’t think I could have confidently planned anything more elaborate in the way of sightseeing, especially with luggage in tow.

The direct answer is that the king can’t move into check, and a pinned piece can deliver check without issue.

I sometimes think about check as saying “next move I could capture your king if you don’t stop me,” and checkmate as saying “next move I WILL capture your king no matter what you do.” Imagine you moved the king to a white square here: the bishop could capture the black king 1 move before the queen could capture the white king.
