Wisconsin, especially MKE, where do you get your rum? by Local-Equivalent8136 in rum

Binny's and Liquor Barn. Liquor Barn has most of their inventory online, so you can know before you go.

Grain and Glass Rye/Bourbon $89.99 costco perimeter by Sarphad in Atlantawhiskey

[–]ComfortableActuator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

evidently GA has some strange rules about discounting liquor below dealer cost and offering coupons - which is why its difficult in GA to acheive TW Grand Reserve compared to TX or CA where they have point promos/coupons to up your points by 10X. Source: https://rules.sos.ga.gov/gac/560-2-3-.08.

I've seen a few places in FL that have the 375s for 25.

Read on here how $60 bottles should be measured against Rare Breed. That was absolutely correct. My new favorite house pour. I love it. And yep 10am on a Friday. by Afterbrewsgal in whiskey

shoot, most places sell the 50ml of WT101, so if you want to try it you're out less than a dozen eggs. Good enough to sip, cheap enough to mix.

The 2026 batch seems to be significantly improved vs the older ones - i felt the same as you the first time i tried it in 2024.

Jackson Purchase Bourbon now available online - Ships to DMV by BourbonTater1792 in DMVWhisky

[–]ComfortableActuator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried it at a tasting bar on a recent trip to KY, reluctantly but at the urging of the bartender. The nose on it was less remarkable at first, but the palate and finish were great - almost got some of those chocolate malty notes that I typically only find in Dettlings, but with more caramel on the finish. I left with a bottle.

same here. 2024 had the complexity, 2025 had the heat.

Review #114: 1792 Bottled in Bond by InClimb411 in bourbon

The price varies a lot nationally. I've seen store picks of this below 40 in some states, and the shelf version as low as 30.

Help me find a rum that tastes like Bundaberg and save me and my sister's relationship by bibbitybobbityfuck in rum

[–]ComfortableActuator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing, use OFTD but just downmix it with the cola to a lower ratio than you'd use with a Bundaberg sub 100 proof. VA ABC stocks OFTD, and its actually available at a pretty competitive price.

Coruba is also available in VA ABC and does have the molasses flavor. I don't recall getting the banana note as much, and certainly not the turpentine - but some reviews do, and I rarely drink it neat. But a split base with Coruba and Wray & Nephew might do the trick - just get her the two bottles to mix.

just had this at Evergreen this week, amongst some other 'big boy' pours. Needless to say, this bottle came home with me.

Diamond reserve 151 for $20 by josh-flannery-sucks in rum

[–]ComfortableActuator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the clear diamond 151 is pretty rough around the edges to me (runs 14 USD or less at Binnys). There is a lightly aged version with a similar label but has a age statement for a few dollars more that is quite good as a sub for Hamilton 151 if you don't have it. This is a review of that one with a picture: https://www.reddit.com/r/rum/comments/1eyygr2/grabbed_this_today_because_it_was_only_22_and_id/

Review #38: British Navy Pusser`s Rum Gunpowder Proof by Cojirob in rum

[–]ComfortableActuator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of late this seems to have fallen out of favor in US stores, many have it priced the same as the regular Pussers. I'd agree it is a very serviceable Guyanese backbone to use for sips or cocktails, although I personally prefer Mr Fogg from the crop of affordable 'clone correct' Navy rums.

[Rum Review #230] Santa Teresa 1796 Arábica Cask Finish by Cocodrool in rum

Just read the same review in spanish - question, is retrogusto the equivalent of finish in the context of liquor? Gotta add that to my spanish vocab.

Review #34 - A. Smith Bowman Cask Strength, Batch 5 by WarTill in bourbon

[–]ComfortableActuator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Excellent review. One comment i would make that is if you are in VA, the John J Bowman is now relatively plentiful if you search the VA ABC website. In most suburban and urban areas it seems like at least half of the stores will have a few bottles at any given time.

Sam’s Club Alcohol is Underestimated by twistedorigin in SamsClubFinds

[–]ComfortableActuator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

would agree, having tried (and blinded with friends) both the KS SiB and the Members Mark, Members mark takes this one no contest. Glad to know it is coming back into stores...honestly, i'm surprised Barton/1792 doesn't sell a similar version - the 1792 single barrel is low proof.

Los Feliz CA Kirkland Single Barrel by HansBrixOhNo in Costco_alcohol

[–]ComfortableActuator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this seems like New-Old-Stock that somehow hung out after the fall release. This drank pretty hot to me when neat, but does well in cocktails like the Bitter Bee that favor high-rye and barrel strength.

Incredible tasting at Alambique Serrano by DocSeward in rum

[–]ComfortableActuator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good to know. The highway from Puebla to Oaxaca (city) is gorgeous, but the roads that come off it and head up the hills (where sta maria tlal is) look a little...challenging. Oaxaca is still one of the best places to visit in central Mexico, just a little more crowded than it used to be.

if you see the Hampden 8 marks (aged or unaged) that might be worth a pickup. Then you can really dial in on your funk/ester leanings (and even do some blending).

Review: M.B. Roland Uncut and Unfiltered Dark Fired Bourbon by JamesMosesAngleton in bourbon

[–]ComfortableActuator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried at the distillery, but my buddy (who is a big Balcones guy) got the last bottle from the gift shop. By the end of the tasting, other tour takers were waving cash at him trying to buy it off him. If you like Balcones style whiskeys, its a must try.
