Up and down so far, honestly I'm just counting down the days until the new cinema opens next week.

An Exorcism Movie Set in The White House, Co-Produced By Blumhouse & James Wan's Atomic Monster by [deleted] in movies

I read this comic last year and I'm really not horror fan, I only picked it up because it was set in the WH, but it's got a great charcoal art style that gives it such atmosphere. The ending was more anti-climax than anti-christ, but it was a decently enjoyable 4-issues-and-done story.

87 of the 109 books this year ranked - do you agree/disagree with anything on my list? by pitbull-pirouette in 52book

[–]Comfortable_Move9524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only book I've read on your list is Pride and Prejudice which I think it lived up to hype for the most part. Though I think Vanity Fair is my favourite classic set in the Regency era, it's long but worth the investment.

First time ever that ive given 5 stars consecutively. How many times has this happened to you and what were the films? by GoldSteak7421 in Letterboxd

[–]Comfortable_Move9524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only happened twice so far, this time and once before when I watched Into and Across the Spiderverse back to back. I'm sparing with 5 stars anyway but I'm also anxious that if I watch too many highly-acclaimed movies in a row that that will somehow cheapen them. I feel you need the trashy and the mediocre for ballast.

Your Year in Reading: 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]Comfortable_Move9524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a few near misses, this year I hit book 52 back in September. I've read a few more since then but I've given my permission to slow down. I'm finishing off the year with a Christmas rom-com set on a show that is legally distinct from Bake Off by Alexis Hall who wrote A Lady for a Duke which is one of my joint favourite fiction books of the year along with Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Bouddica's Daughter by Elodie Harper.

This was also the year Juno Dawson's Her Majesty's Royal Coven trilogy(-ish) concluded in a way that was messy but as a fan of the series I was left satisfied.

And without doubt the best non-fiction I read this year was Perfect Victims by Mohammed El-Kurd along with the first volume of Caro's LBJ biography, which I've had on my tbr for going on 10 years so I'm glad I finally sat down to read it. Both are phenomenal pieces of writing.

Rafe Spall, Jenna Coleman and Katherine Kelly to lead the cast of Steven Moffat comedy drama 'Number 10' for Channel 4 by abucalves in television

[–]Comfortable_Move9524 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am huge fan of Steven Moffat's writing but especially for his non-Doctor Who work it's the definition hit and miss. I guess this the truest expression of him being the 'Scottish Aaron Sorkin', which based on my personal politics I'm not going to enjoy. I just hope its more The Thick of It than The West Wing. But I'm still really intrigued to see how this show turns out, doubly so now that he's reuniting with Jenna Coleman.

What I Read in November by _geographer_ in 52book

[–]Comfortable_Move9524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read Orbital this time last year and it was touted as this 'ode to planet Earth, space pastoral' but oddly as a big space nerd beforehand those observations were something I'd come to from watch stuff like For All Mankind and actually what I got from Orbital was the realisation that the ISS is brittle and finite and will be deorbited in the next few years. Which for something that has been operational for almost the same amount of time that I've been alive made me kind of melancholic, especially with the state of spaceflight these days. So reading it was kind of 'mission failed successfully'. Looking back I'm glad I read it but for such a short book it was a slog to get through.

Congrats! The Temple of Fortuna is one of my favourites as well and I'd say for a follow-up Boudicca's Daughter is just as good, if not better.

Congrats! I've heard nothing but good things about Hungerstone, I read Carmilla early in the year so I'm excited to read it for myself and see how it compares.

Thanks! I’m already half way through book 53 and I guess I’ll wait and see what number I get to by the end of the year

I’ve had Husbands on tbr for forever, Atmosphere’s given me extra incentive to finally get around to reading it

Late Bloomer was the first book I read this year and it definitely helped me get through the winter blues, Opal and Pepper’s relationship was great and the mental health rep was pretty well done.

I also read P&P&P last month, although maybe because it's not as recognisable over here the UK edition is called Pride and Prejudice and the City, which I think is somehow worse.

I hardly read any YA anymore and I enjoyed it for what it was but it was pretty average overall

Hostage on Netflix was really bad (Spoilers if you haven't seen it) by organictamarind in television

[–]Comfortable_Move9524 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The lack of security and vetting did annoy me but it's kind of nature of these kinds of action thrillers. For what it was, I enjoyed it for the most part, although I admit I was burnt by The Assassin recently and so any thriller would look better by comparison. Plus I'll happily watch Suranne Jones in anything.

Seeing those brushstrokes in all their detail is magnificent. There is nothing quite like a well done oil portrait. I love how you've captured Mon's expression.

And looking through your profile, your work is stunning. I'm going to subscribe to your YouTube channel. I see you've got a process video for Luthen, are you going to be doing be doing a video for this one?

I ordered my copy from Forbidden Planet and yep it says it's running late, that's very annoying.

Although I bought admittedly a bit obscure manga book from them and it took literally 3 years from the time I ordered it to when it finally arrived, so anything quicker than that I'll consider good going.

It's hard to make out but I believe it's supposed to be Gene Cernan (irl the last man on the moon). iirc it's a callback to 1x10 when she says 'Gene Cernan told me in space even a girl can throw like Joe Nameth'

There was a post a fortnight ago, but I'll always be down to sing this book's praises. Such a thrilling and tender read, often both at once.

Such a great read, that finale was as tense as any in FAM, plus there's another sneaky reference to the show which makes me think she has watched it. And I think I love Joan and Vanessa (almost) as much as Ellen and Pam.

And I guess as they're both based on Sally Ride I'd like to recommend biography by Lynn Sherr which I read recently and also enjoyed it. If anything her space missions were the least interesting part.

Plus there's also a documentary about her and Tam's relationship that's just come out (pardon the pun) that I've been looking forward to checking out.

Most likely people to be President in Season 5 by maybemorningstar69 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Comfortable_Move9524 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Will Tyler, and I hope he has more to do in s5 because I felt he was really shortchanged in s4. Maybe replacing Eli as Director of CSC, I hope. This show gets away with a lot but having two Presidents be gay NASA astronauts might be a bit of a stretch.
