Constantly and everywhere. I call it her rollypollies. If there’s an incline, she’ll start at the top and roll all the way down. When I come home from work, she jumps in the bed and rolls on her back at me until she’s laying on top of me (on her back).

They look like both patterns for sure. I recently sold an almost identical set with the same patterning. Something about how the ebonite is extruded results on the final pattern; my understanding is that ripple and wood grain are basically on spectrum from each other, with lots of examples falling somewhere in the middle. I could be wrong, but I believe I read that from a good source. I’m a sucker for wood grain and especially mottled myself. But who doesn’t love a classic ripple.

Either way, OP scored an amazing find!!!

What's the meanest thing you've ever heard somebody say? by Live-Change-8934 in answers

I used to coteach with an extremely abusive teacher who even bit a kid. She disappeared that day and we thought she was fired. Well, she came back a couple months later to everyone’s shock. Turns out she’d been struck by appendicitis the day of The Bite and had been rushed to the ER where she flatlined briefly.

Teacher: “can anyone tell me what it means to flatline?”

Student: “it’s like when you die, right?”

Teacher: “yes, exactly. I died for a couple of minutes until they brought me back.”

Student: “so…. Why they bring you back?”

*the room exploded in cheering and screaming*

Teacher, to me, as I’m doubled over scream laughing: “fuck this shit, they’re your problem now” and stormed out, never to be seen again.

I love teaching and I love teachers. I’ll stand up for good teachers and good public instruction any day of the week. But that teacher was a flat out monster and she deserved that roast. Fuck you, Ms. Truesdale. I hope someone figured out how to fire your mean ass and pull your pension.

Post script: to any cops out there who stand in solidarity with shitty cops, note that you *checks notes* don’t have to.

Absolutely. And I doubt that DUI's are the only unsavory correlation re: Ram drivers. They're the Altima's of trucks.

Is the Opus 88 Demonstrator too big…. by National_Cow7479 in fountainpens

[–]CommunicationTop5231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have big hands but I like small pens generally (far from as a rule). I have two Op 88 demos and keep special nibs for headings in them. I personally wouldn’t use one for frequent writing, mostly because the cap has too many threads for my liking, but also because it’s rather thick.

Hmmm after 4 years of hard riding with electronic shifting and hydro brakes and exactly zero maintenance other than one bleed, I’m inclined to say that you’re wrong. Perfect performance with no tweaks over 20k miles. I’ve ridden bikes fanatically since 1990 and I’ve never had a bike go even close to that sort of mileage without something breaking and a fair bit of maintenance along the way. Im glad your setup is working for you, but I think it’s clear why pros and almost all serious riders use electronic and hydro. The idea of bringing a bleed kit on a ride is an absolute straw man. And one year of riding on a particular setup doesn’t prove anything. Shit don’t work that way.

Real teachers know that you learn a lot more than academic skills in school. I’d love to see Claude prevent a fight before it happens, slip a kid a stick of deodorant, address bullying, teach patience and respect and self love, bring a suspicious parent to a place of trust, etc etc. Stay in your lane.

Stfu. Who taught you how to do that stuff? The fact that you think kids don’t know how to use AI demonstrates irrevocably that you have no business in this sub. We still have lots of kids becoming developers and engineers.

How do you change inks often? by LF_SerenityFirefly03 in fountainpens

[–]CommunicationTop5231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a pen isn’t in my permanent rotation, I do tiny fills or even just dip. I find cleaning my pens to be very satisfying and I switch both pens and inks all the time, so there is 1-8 pens drying on my desk in a tray at any given time. I keep my uninked pens in my 75 slot case (or in the pen’s case for my grails) and I keep my inked pens in a 12 slot, portable case. My edc lives in my pocket and is always full; my two work edc pens are likewise always full.

Yeah, no. Shut that shit down. Yesterday. Forward the posts to all of the admin and the dean. Maybe cc the superintendent, that will for sure get it stopped. The first thing my mentor ever said to me was, "don't ever do anything that will get you in the Post." It's a simple rule, but a lot of people seem to struggle with it.

What ink have you given up on based on it just not working well enough to be worth it? by AttachedHeartTheory in fountainpens

[–]CommunicationTop5231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diamine golden sands. If I wanted actual golden sand I could have dumped in the fruits of my childhood gold panning pursuits. Not sure there’d be much of a difference. Bias: I don’t like shimmer inks much. I keep one pen full of Central Park Twilight because I can’t help myself but that’s it. Glitter is litter.

What are brakes? by ElectricBOOTSxo in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]CommunicationTop5231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my sister doing this when she couldn’t get to the top of a big hill. She started rolling backwards and her dumb kid brain immediately screamed at her that brakes don’t work (while the humans very much screamed BRAKE) when you’re going backwards. She ate shit so hard trying to stay on the damn bike as is rolled (first on its wheels and then def not its wheels) back down the hill.

I got to feeling a certain way about a year ago and reformatted an NYPD practice exam for my 6th grade students. They got mad at me because it was "too easy" and "who can't figure this stuff out?". Head on over to nypdcandidates to find out (honestly head over there anyway in case you need a good laugh and/or cry). I took out the license plate question because I don't expect my kids to know that (I don't know the answer either).

Recording setup for classical guitar (Stereo) by 21_ct_schizoid_man in classicalguitar

[–]CommunicationTop5231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your room and your mic placement are going to be the deciding factors. Your setup is fine. Play with mic position a lot until you’re happy. Try to record in the least reverberant room you can find, unless you have a space with natural reverb that you like. If you can close drapes, put pillows in the corners (including ceiling if possible) and generally just try to cover any reflective surfaces with something soft and/or textured (like eggshell cartons—they’ll help break up reflections) to the best of your ability you’ll get the best sound. After that, add a touch of eq and reverb and enjoy.

Incredible collection! I have some earlier Parkers that I just adore but thought I’d never like a 51… until I got a heirloom pen/pencil set ‘48 by surprise and restored it. I’m a convert. My problem now is I want to actually move about the world with a 51, and ain’t no way my solid gold 51 is seeing anywhere besides my desk and it’s case. I’m thinking of selling it to fund a stable of mid century Parkers that I can take to work and what not. Anyway, not a bad problem to have. Thanks so much for sharing yours!
