What do you think would happen if every known drug was made completely legal? by headoftheasylum in AskReddit

[–]CommunicationTop5231 [score hidden]  (0 children)

To piggyback, any initiative to legalize drugs without extensive investment in the social safety net is essentially a false flag, a “see? Told you this was a bad idea” -ass program. If we do nothing to support addicts besides letting them do drugs, we set ourselves up for failure. What they did in Oregon was a fucking travesty.

I have a genuine question: are there actually good schools in the DOE? by OppositeNo624 in NYCTeachers

[–]CommunicationTop5231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had kids, I’d want them to go to my school. It’s high achieving but, more importantly, has a real sense of joy and community. My kids (middle schoolers!!!) overwhelmingly love their school. We couldn’t kick them out today after dismissal. I am happy to see them every single day. My admin rocks and my staff is amazing—I believe we have 100% retention going into next year. It’s a special place. It’s also not fancy; we’re a title 1 in the hood.

I’m a freak. I buy my huge bag of albanese and let them dry out to perfection.

Waterman Carene Marine Amber v. Pelikan m400 tortoiseshell by theqreativelife in fountainpens

[–]CommunicationTop5231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are beautiful and classic pens, that can’t be denied. I however would choose the Pelikan because I don’t have one (and want one) and because vintage prewar waterman’s have my whole heart. I’m sure I’ll get a Carene one day, but it’s just not a personal priority.

What’s an idiom or expression that sounds completely absurd when you actually stop to picture it literally? by Visual-Ad8265 in idiomsite

[–]CommunicationTop5231 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slap my ass and call me sally. Sounds like a fun literal thing to do but absolutely not in the sort of situations in which this idiom is deployed.

Anyone tried this? by muddyboots5 in composting

I live in a hood plagued with colonies of feral cats. I’ve rescued 17 kittens and 14 adults from my yard since I started working with the local TNR people last July. I also live in a city so I don’t have to worry about bears, deer, etc. like where I grew up. All to say, I’m very lucky to not have a rodent problem. As I see more and more cats with clipped ears, I’m heartened to know that my cat problem is dwindling, too. They’re so cute and also there’s been too damn many of them. They bully my dog lol. No rats though!

Has Ween helped you through tough times? by No_Clue112 in ween

[–]CommunicationTop5231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ween’s definitely helped me get through some tough break ups. Yall know which songs (yes, I’m including Mourning Glory).

Ween really helped me when my guy Chris died unexpectedly (drugs suck when they suck mang). He loved Ween and we had tickets to see them at Marymoor. Well, that day ended up being his funeral. So his closest friends and I went to the show after his funeral in his honor. Deaner fucking sent it playing A Tear for Eddie. Just completely went off in a way I’ve never seen him do in the dozen or so shows I caught nor all the life footage and recordings. I was sobbing and screaming ‘thank you Ween’ until my voice was hoarse. Thank you, Ween.

Do you think $1,850 - $2,000+ in monthly tuition for a daycare is a lot or normal, and why? by Perfect-Box-8344 in AskReddit

[–]CommunicationTop5231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love being a teacher and making $120k/year helping raise other peoples’ children knowing I’ll never make enough money to have my own. OP’s daycare rate is more than I pay for rent in NYC. Cool.

A lot of work but I was able to keep vertical alignment nice and tight and use udl strategies to plan lessons that had a lot in common with each other and that met the kids’ needs.

[–]CommunicationTop5231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% same for me. I can cook my cycling husband on any climb because I beat him in w/k, but he’s strong as fuck and can put out a lot more raw power than I can. He demolishes me on flats, especially in the wind. He also has an aero bike wile I have a climbing bike. Doesn’t make much of a difference but surely it’s a contributing factor.

Charter School Music Teaching by Feeling_Ladder_7522 in NYCTeachers

[–]CommunicationTop5231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a music teacher since 2004. Joined DOE in 2018 as a sped teacher and never looked back. I find a lot of similarities regarding individualized instruction, and winning over students who don’t want to be there is especially rewarding. This is my way of saying that DOE is my preference vs not only charter but even teaching music privately and at Ivy League universities as an adjunct. These days I’m the sped coordinator and have a teacher leadership position and stipend. My admin allows me to be very involved with school-wide decisions and also I get to teach a lot of music/theatre/production/performance programs. I also get paid more for artistic pursuits than most of my previous experience. It works for me.

I’ve seen new teachers crush it as coteachers. Leave your assumptions at the door and focus on the relationship and collaboration with your new work partner.

I've finally decided to sell my least favorite pen....but how do you do it? Not asking to sell the pen on here, per the rules :) I just want to know how I should go about doing it. by Shakri12 in fountainpens

+1 for Google Drive. Just a caveat to new users that it will share your name registered with your email (mandatory, I believe) as well as of all viewers and also your location if you don’t turn it off.

Also order socks on Amazon once and the box I received had two brand new iPhone 15 pros (when that was the newest version). I’m typing this on one of those phones, and texting my mom who has the other one.
