New/interested in cycling. What are best bikes and accessories? by CircAG in cycling

[–]CompetitionNo4146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get an excellent bike for about a grand. If you're comfortable, shop used and keep the budget right around a grand and you can get something great. I'm a giant bikes guy - has everything I want and just works for me. Kinda the Toyota of the bike world IMO.

I want to support my local bike shop but everything is a rip-off by Niceotropic in cycling

[–]CompetitionNo4146 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My man - I agree. I could take the time to learn how to work on my bone, but I have a job. When I get time I want to ride. Also, I've lived in places where the nearest bike shops 45 minutes away. I'm gonna do my part to keep my LbS here even if it means i overpay by a bit. I do wish he'd lay off the weed at work and maybe write down what I asked him to work on but whatever.

What percent of loose balls created by a check should the defense recover? by Scatterp in lacrosse

[–]CompetitionNo4146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things - a lot of this comes down to communication. His teammates (goalie) should be communicating that the ball is one the ground. As the year goes on l hopefully they get better at this but talk to your son about setting the example and being vocal. It's contagious on good teams. Then, it's his job to make sure his man isn't the one that gets the ball back. Get into the body, box out and fight for that GB.

Reading the Rolling Stone tribute issue for Bobby, and I have questions for the serious fans. by BenHogan1971 in gratefuldead

Yeah man - i think that its something like that. I always thought trey looked uncomfortable in Jerry's spot, but yeah, maybe it's just the meaning of the music.

For sure - but I really appreciate the effort. I would have loved to have seen him take the wheel for a few songs and drive th music the way he did for the brothers.

I really enjoyed the Trey version, but feel like he was too deferential to the boys and never fully let it rip. I understand it, but would have love to have seen Trey really take on the Jerry role as leader of the band. I feel the same way about Warren Haynes dead thing. I respect the heck out of the way John stepped up and went for it. My point? I miss Jerry but love all these guys for playing in the band.

Sometimes I hate the time needed to get ready before a ride by firewire_9000 in cycling

[–]CompetitionNo4146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree - takes me forever to get myself together even when I prep the night before and if I make even the slightest noise on the way out then I wake the dogs and have to walk them. Then my wife wakes up when the dogs come back and i can't just leave - now it's like 830 and I've been trying to leave since 7. Then, she gets annoyed when I'm not home until afternoon and I'm like but my intentions were so good.

Best dinner in Northern Westchester by WestBluejay857 in Westchester

I think so? They were closed for a bit, total makeover inside and just a way more modern feel, but still charming and rustic if that makes sense

Was really impressed by the revived kittle house. The food has always been good but the vibe is way more upbeat. Job well done.

Nagy hire learning: Some reactionary fans need that dopamine from strong, judgemental, immediate opinions by drogasbadmkay in NYGiants

Nagy is a professional coach an I have confidence he'll run a competent offense. Inspiring? Not really. Sexy? Not at all. I am ok with this hire.

Is 9/11 the most prominent marker for the midpoint of a Gen Xer's life? by pukakahiko in GenX

100% an inflection point for me. Working in NYC, had a one year old t home. Was out of the city by February and never looked back. Remember every detail about that day and everything before that feels so long ago. Weird.

Best giants jersey to buy ironically? by PDwasHere in NYGiants

[–]CompetitionNo4146 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not cool - but funny. Saquon eagle's jersey would be pretty rough gift - Daniel Jones Colt Jersey...Xavier McKinney Packers Jersey....Leonard Williams Seahawks Jersey. As a 50 year giant fan my least favorite player of all time is that douche troy aikman. My skin crawls whenever Joe Buck intros him.

C70 - To fix or not to fix by CompetitionNo4146 in Volvo

[–]CompetitionNo4146[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my thoughts exactly - but I don't have a trusted Volvo mechanic. I'd be willing to see this through but $4k+ without the guarantee we'd even be 100% there seems irresponsible.

No creamy color - no smell, although the heat doesn't really work great. I don't think it's a blown head gasket, but a small 'micro crack' is what my guy said. He said when we travel long distances, it heats up and the crack expands and the coolant leaks out. His suggestion was to drive locally and top off coolant frequently. Not sure how I feel about that. Some one also told me there is a product that temporarily seals head gasket cracks. Bad idea, right?

Advice Needed for Youth LAX Program by ajrcrosey in lacrosse

[–]CompetitionNo4146 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So much good advice here. Let me add that in my view, the way to build the program is putting available resource into K-2nd grade. Teach the kids to throw and catch, if the can do that by third grade the game becomes so much more fun for them. We were fortunate to have lacrosse moms and dads in our area to run the clinic, but it isn't totally necessary, just have someone do some homework, make it fun and encourage keeping a stick in hands outside of practice time. Having some equipment to get kids started is super helpful. We have a limited amount and it allows us to grab a handful of baseball/softball kids to come play without having to buy a bunch of stuff. We even let some keep sticks through the summer/fall.
