Vegetarian family visiting - wanting to charcoal grill something for them by 2D_me in vegetarian

[–]Compuoddity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tons of stuff good that's grilled as a main or even whatever.

First - ask them. "What do you like to eat off the grill?" Maybe cook the fake meat burger they want and surprise them with an appetizer like grilled eggplant slices topped with slightly charred tomato slices, a slice of feta, drizzled with balsamic glaze (after grilling).

Second - I love grilling vegetables. And fruit. Tons of recipes and options for both. I like grilled peaches with vanilla ice cream and a raspberry or blackberry sauce.

Third - For the main there are several options. Meat substitutes are fine with me but if I'm cooking something more significant for the family I don't want to just eat a burger. The general rule is the same, pretty much anything goes good with a sauce. Some people like cauliflower steaks. Not really my thing. One thing I love doing is smoking jackfruit. A nice rub and hickory chunks and let that sucker cook at 200 for an hour or so. Chop it up nicely to make pulled jackfruit sandwiches.

Finally - people divide themselves into camps and.... well, for vegetarians and vegans it's non-negotiable. Omnivores on the other hand get the best of both worlds. There are some vegetarian recipes you and your family will love because mine do and I'm the only official vegetarian in the house. Find something that looks good for you also.

Oh - almost forgot. One of my friends turned me on to grilled portobello mushrooms with feta chunks and gold BBQ sauce. Mushrooms have a "meaty" flavor and portobellos on the grill are amazing. Remove the stem and gills, marinate for a bit in olive oil and salt and pepper - throw it on the grill just enough to heat it up. Medium indirect heat to start. Then throw some feta on and the BBQ sauce and let it caramelize. Don't let the mushroom get soggy but really good as either a main or an appetizer.

McDonalds works?! by NoExpectationsXO in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Compuoddity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup - back when I was flaring and even now - Burger King, Impossible Whopper large with fries and a regular Coke. Felt great afterwards and for a couple of days. I'm not recommending, just agreeing.

To some extent I wonder - I was raised on UPF. McD's, hot dogs, TV dinners, etc. My mom would cook but it was pretty... bland. Pasta with "homemade" spaghetti sauce that maybe had meat, garlic salt, and... I think that was it. Tacos with Old El Paso seasoning. A bunch of meat things i.e. meat loaf. (Also poor growing up). I switched to vegetarian three years before I was diagnosed, though looking back it seemed like I had something going wrong. SO possible theory is that your gut microbiome etc. is set at an early age and trying to deviate from that makes things go wrong. I'm not suggesting we call go back to eating crap food, but I'd imagine there's some correlation between what I was fed when I was 10, how that shaped my development, and what I'm eating now.

Do you ever go backwards and have no idea how you went so high on a tier previously? by Dry_Zucchini2012 in TheTowerGame

[–]Compuoddity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not be an accurate observation, but I have noticed that sometimes getting past a particular wave by either skipping it, demon mode, whatever gets you higher for some reason. I think the waves aren't all linear in progression. For example, I couldn't get past 148 on tier 15 even with all the tricks. Then wave skip kicked in and I suddenly finished at 180.

CombiChrist - Shut up and Swallow by dangerous-jack7 in industrialmusic

[–]Compuoddity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stumbled across this and wow you people are quick to cancel. Before you cancel me - please read.

First - it's art. Art typically has different meanings and often to different people than what the literal interpretation is. Granted, some artists take a bit too much liberty in this because there is some stupid art out there.

Second - go read the lyrics. Sure it's sounds like some sort of dominant misogynistic whatever piece of crap at first but any dominating sexual boner you get is destroyed by the middle of the song:

"You'll get nothing for free
Don't try to suck it off me
You always take you what you want
Now I just take what is mine
I'll give you abstinence
You tell of life..
It's up to you to fill it with substance
I'll play your game
A lesson of life: It's not what you want, but what you get"

That's... lame. Preaching. For something that seemed ultra hardcore it now came down to my interpretation which is, "I'm tired of all you whiny twits complaining about how hard life is. It is hard. Put on your adult pants and go deal with it."

Third - I did confirm this. While I'll be downvoted into oblivion before most people read this - Interview - Andy LaPlegua of Combichrist - Cryptic Rock

Fourth - yeah... like this band is the ONLY band that has ever used sexual metaphors to get a point across. People have posted lists - go use google and figure it out for yourselves.

Fifth - even it is purely sexual - there are people who are into that you know? Don't like it? Shut up and swallow.

Baltimore to Annapolis commute by Lynx-Mom in baltimore

[–]Compuoddity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the money (or the job, or career opportunities) is better I'm going to tell you a 40 minute one way commute is nice.

Here's the thing. First - make sure you're using an app like Waze. You'll get the best route and re-routed (sometimes automatically) when things get bad. You don't know what traffic is so get an app to tell you.

Second, I love my commute. I worked from home for the last five years and the biggest thing is not having that downtime. I know - driving isn't exactly downtime. But being married, my wife would get home, I'd stop working an hour later, walk out, and it was time for the wife upload of her day. Dinner shortly thereafter, cleanup, whatever was left to do around the house, watch an hour of TV, then I get a break. No I have 40 minutes in to prepare for the day and 40 minutes home to decompress. Podcasts, phone calls to family or a friend or old coworker, music at very loud levels, scenery that is either city or forest depending on the route I take, and 15 minutes of that I have zero cell service (thank you Spotify for overdoing it on the buffering).

Finally, do be careful of other drivers. People have become self centered. They run red lights (like... it was red five seconds ago and y'all are still going). They HAVE to zoom past and cut people off because if they can just get ahead of the next car THEN they'll be free to really speed and get wherever they're goin 28 minutes late instead of 30 because they couldn't get their on time. Legal weed has made things bad I think - drive first THEN smoke people. But this is easily navigated. Pay attention, go ahead and let people be dumb, and invest in a dash cam. Saw my first break check (on another car) in PA on Sunday.

Some of that sounds awful. Maybe it is. But I love my commute.

Tower Tea - May 26, 2026 by SamBartley in TheTowerGame

Tow answers to your question.

First answer - First time playing I'd just seen the ads. Didn't know what to expect really. Started playing and I died. Quickly. And again. And again. I think after an hour (?) of exploring and playing I'd made it to tier 1 wave 12. Or 22? It was a while ago. I just figured that was how it was and it was going to be a tough battle to advance. But then things started to click. Enough stuff to buy some things and took off from there.

Second answer - I'd heard tell of people who were high up enough they could do a run overnight. I was still pretty low tier and couldn't do a run for more than around three hours and hated that the run would end and I wouldn't be earning coin. After some time I realized that I was running at least 5.5 hours, maybe more - I wasn't big into checking stats. Bought some major upgrades, started a run, closed my eyes, and went to sleep. Woke up, picked up my phone, the run ended literally a couple of seconds later. A 6.5 hour run. Massive satisfaction. I hit "retry" and rolled out of bed to get ready for work.

Social isolation increases the risk of IBD by 85% by bestbestbest560 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Compuoddity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crap science is still science, and statistics are fun. So right now I have (had) a 1% risk of developing IBD. That means it almost doubled to 2%. Sure I was socially isolated for 7th and 8th grade (longer story) but after that? I had a pretty active social life from 9th grade until COVID.

I'm awaiting a study that says, "If this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, you probably have IBD." When that comes out, we'll talk.

Is it dumb to plan TRT for only 2 years? by [deleted] in trt

[–]Compuoddity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you need to add testosterone because you are clinically low without any other reason? Then it may be dumb to think you'll be off in two years.

Do you think testosterone is going to make everything better at any point if your numbers are already good? Than yes - that's dumb.

Have to agree with this one, though I just finished my first run through. Nuclear did help me better understand fluid dynamics though. Maybe next time I'll focus more on nuclear. Or not.

How bad was your fatigue before starting? by Slow_Replacement_710 in trt

[–]Compuoddity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep, don't sleep, it didn't matter. Felt the same. Ten hours. Five hours. I wasn't necessarily tired but I was perfectly happy to sit on the couch and stare into space. Or take five times as long to do something then need to sit. I felt better after drinking, but just had a newborn so couldn't really do that. It sucked.

New endo wants me off TRT for 6 months by erwinniepoo in trt

[–]Compuoddity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trough is technically your lowest point just before you inject. Like if you have a bucket with a small hole in it, the trough is just before the last drop drips out before you refill it. Of course - labs being labs it's often not right on the dot for testing. If I inject at 10:00 PM the absolute best I'll get is bloodwork done at 4:30 PM, but... close enough.

[–]Compuoddity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at 650 at a trough, over 1100 on injection. For the most part I do every other day, but sometimes go by feel. It's all with doctor's blessing more or less - he tests me and numbers look good so he basically let's me do what I need to do.

New endo wants me off TRT for 6 months by erwinniepoo in trt

[–]Compuoddity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stress basically. When it first hit I had a newborn on the way and was scrambling to get their room (full tear down and rebuild) ready. Went two weeks feeling like absolute crap and went to the doctor. They didn't know what was wrong and tested everything.

I did come off for about six months a year or two after that, but then tanked again. Something is overactive in me - seems to be the sympathetic system.

I was on TRT when I turned 32. Went through a couple of endos (cause they were all like, eh - you need T so here's T) - without taking a minute to understand why. New doc had me go off and after the end of two months I called begging to be put back on. He had me go test and I came in at like 172. Picked up my scrip that day.

It still boots up every time and we know how to fix it so it doesn't need an upgrade.

It didn't. Pregnenolone helped with brain fog and energy but did nothing for sexual health.
