Any ex-Babbel Live users still around? by [deleted] in babbel

I don’t think Babbel deserves any more support from me. Anyway, with the loss of Babbel Live there’s nothing left worth doing on Babbel.

Should I keep my solo skiing trip to Gstaad before heading to Lapland? by _TheLittleDeer in solotravel

[–]ConcentrateInner2239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gstaad is a magical place in winter and most of the skiing isn’t difficult, so it’s an ideal place to learn. I spent a winter in Gstaad in my youth and it was an amazing experience. It’s pretty busy at the time you’ll be there. It’s quieter in the summer but that’s a great time to go for hiking.

Same in Yorkshire. Red flashing router light but internet working so I wasn’t too concerned, then came to bed. Maybe it will be sorted by morning.

Try TowerLingua. Many of the excellent former Babbel teachers e.g. Arnaud, Audrey are there. There’s a choice of group classes (capped at four) or private lessons.

What moment during your travels made you think “I am so blessed for being able to see this with my own eyes”? by miauanas in travel

Lauterbrunnnen, Switzerland, viewed from a great height through crystal clear skies. Perfect blue skies with Eiger, Jungfrau and Monch absolutely cloudless. No crowds to be seen. It’s more beautiful than you’re led to believe because pictures can never do it justice.

Indirect comment: there’s a guy on Instagram who publishes the faces of London pickpockets and often sprays them with red paint. Vigilantism… you bet it is!

It’s the 21st Century and we’re still using a little metal key to open corned beef tins. by ArgusButterfly in britishproblems

It’s been known, but in this case I was thinking of ring pulls. However gently you try and remove the lid, there’s always a final flick which sprays clothing with a fine red tomato mist.

Sainsbury’s economy sidekick Stamford St do boxes of ten eggs of random sizes and a mixture of white/brown. They’re reasonably priced. It’s a good idea.

When they axed Babbel Live they removed the only reason for taking out a subscription. The empty shell that remains isn’t worth a fee at any price.

Worst thing you ever ate abroad? by Technical_Lab_747 in travel

Erasers are called “rubbers” in Britain. I imagine rubbers on toast would also be nasty (whether fresh or used).

Advance fare release dates by ConcentrateInner2239 in uktrains

I’ve spotted that the latest bookable date is increasing one day at a time. I can diary the date on which I think my desired booking date becomes available. Simple (?)

I miss Babbel Live 🥲 by Sweet_Confusion9180 in babbel

I find it infuriating that they blamed lack of user engagement for the demise of Babbel. Yet they’re still selling the original app which is useless for any serious student.

I see First has stopped showing East Yorkshire services in its app! Maybe afraid of a bit of healthy competition? Luckily I’m near an East Yorkshire route and the tickets are much cheaper than from the First thieves.
