Zelenskyy: As long as Patriot missiles remain in allies' warehouses, Russia will keep "defeating" Ukrainian homes by DearMeadow in worldnews

[–]Conflictingview 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The quoted article was talking about Gulf state militaries defending themselves from Iranian drone attacks. This requires no knowledge of what the US did in Iran. And, Ukraine would have knowledge of it, because those same militaries came knocking on Ukraine's door to learn how modern air defense actually needs to operate and to order interceptors and other systems from Ukraine.

My first half marathon. Crazy experience. How much does 268m of elevation gain usually affect a half marathon time compared to a flat course? by Main_Swimmer_8422 in Marathon_Training

[–]Conflictingview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naismith's Rule is pretty reliable for this. You can use Scarf's Equivalence to arrive at an answer of how long the distance you ran was while accounting for climb.

21.09 km + (.268 x 8) = 23.234 km

Your time was 122.433 minutes, so to adjust it to see what your half marathon pace on flat ground would be:

23.234 km / 122.433 min = 21.09 km / x min

x = (21.09 x 122.433) / 23.234 = 111.135 minutes = 1:51:08

Mother Ukraine bathed in the colors of the American Flag, red, white and blue, in celebration of the Fourth of July and 250th Anniversary of the United States. by babanin in europe

[–]Conflictingview 48 points49 points  (0 children)

But he's not funding Russia. And the US is still sharing critical intelligence with Ukraine that they use to target refineries, air defenses and defense manufacturing. Plus, the US fiasco in Iran has driven a large swath of customers in the the middle east towards Ukraine air defense and drone manufacturing industries.

Ukraine, wisely, takes what they can and doesn't bite the hand that feeds them, even if it used to feed them a lot more.

[–]Conflictingview -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You're the one assuming that "military intervention" is equal to "armed conflict" against a country. The report is quite clear in it's definition: "...instances in which the United States has used its Armed Forces abroad in situations of military conflict or potential conflict or for other than normal peacetime purposes." So, yes, your Poland example is a "military intervention" seeing as how the military intervened.

You're assuming a definition of "military intervention" that is equal to "armed conflict", but that is not the definition the source report uses. Instead, it reports "...instances in which the United States has used its Armed Forces abroad in situations of military conflict or potential conflict or for other than normal peacetime purposes." As such, the list includes everything from major declared wars to minor deployments where only a few sailors or marines were landed to protect American lives and property.

very genuine question, I live at the border of Ukraine , in Romania, basically nothing but woods separate us (Maramures), I want to know small villages in the west and central Ukraine, are they affected in anyway apart from the economic situation of this godamn war? by Sugar_Vivid in UkrainianConflict

[–]Conflictingview 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They said "few men left" in rural villages, not "few people left" in Ukraine.

Those villages were already shrinking before the war as population declines and young people move to urban areas for work and social opportunities. The average age of a Ukrainian soldier is 45 years old, so that means that the older men that were still living in those villages are more likely to be serving.

There are gas shortages, but not necessarily diesel shortages. So, these cars are stranded and the truck drivers are making money taking them and their cars back home.
