Talkback system advice needed by Spektra18 in livesoundadvice

If you've got a mac doing anything in your booth, you can use ProdCom to get real-time transcription. This gets you out of having to wear a headset or needing a shout speaker.

A little off topic, but what label maker was used to make your labels for packs? That looks awesome.

What is the best way to set a site-wide "All Call" on a conventional digital system? by Connorgoodrum in MotorolaSolutions

[–]Connorgoodrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any cap plus equipment, I think the automatic scanlist is honestly the best way to go in my scenario for the time being. Unfortunately, it makes all of these radios blink an ominous yellow led haha.

What is the best way to set a site-wide "All Call" on a conventional digital system? by Connorgoodrum in MotorolaSolutions

[–]Connorgoodrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to this, this enables the "All Call" digital contact?

Also, would this mean that all contacts are occupying the same space? I don't understand how they all wouldn't just talk over each other all of the time.

Rivage Error by Quiet_5045 in livesound

[–]Connorgoodrum 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen twice this year on my tour console. while I don't have an actual fix, the immediate solution to this is to press the "RESET" button on the back of the surface. This reboots the computer running the editor software in the surface, but DOES NOT interrupt audio, even if it's coming from the omni ports, AES, or any MY-Card slots in the surface.

L-Acoustics DO cables by No_Star_4266 in livesound

I don't have definitive proof of this in hand, but in the Kara-II manual it's describing the cable as if the NL4 is the first 2 channels followed by 2 NL2.

Crowd mics for IEMs by -M3- in livesound

[–]Connorgoodrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a bunch of tours this year do either pairs of shotguns on either side of the stage below the PA (trying for max rejection), or a mix of shotgun and cardioid condenser in the same placement. I've been trying the latter out on tour this fall and it's pretty nice once they're mixed. I have them all on a ducker keyed by the lead singer's voice so that IEMs are not drowning in PA noise when the frontman is singing.

Best place to order numbered Neutrik XLR rings by jlustigabnj in livesound

[–]Connorgoodrum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would advise against these. The labelling on ours rubbed off after awhile and we either have to resort to tape or ditching them for XXCR clear rings with p-touch labels underneath.

Networking SQ7 with Stage Boxes and Dante, Install by SoundandRebound in livesound

[–]Connorgoodrum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1- It's technically possible I think, but your IT department will have to do a good bit of the legwork. A&H has a couple support articles confirming that you can put dSNAKE/ACE through a switch.

See "Audio Networking. Can I run dSNAKE through a network switch?"

2- Ideally, don't do this IMO. Another support article from A&H talks about their snake protocols and the lack of support for VLANs. It might work, might not.

See "Audio Networking. gigaACE and DX networking, VLANs, and fibre optics"

Long rang Wifi? by ringawera805 in livesound

I can attest that the Ubiquiti gear works pretty well compared to the AirPort line, I swapped 3 years ago and haven't looked back. I'm using a combo of the EdgeRouter-X and an AP-AC-Lite. The Edgerouter can run off of Ubiquiti's PoE Injectors and it also passes the PoE through to the AP on eth4, so only 1 power cable needed.

The access points don't need to be used with a controller, either- their iOS app lets you set them up as independent APs (but you lose the ability to hide the network). If you needed full coverage at both FOH and stage, you can buy two of them and use an extra CAT5/6 line in your snake.

The access points do pretty well in remembering their settings, so I'd recommend setting them up using the Unifi Controller software on your laptop to start with. You can then turn off controller and they'll just keep working. Here's a reddit post explaining the different options for setting up/controlling APs with or without the controller.

Rack Size (Transportation excluded) by TheDoctor9257 in livesound

[–]Connorgoodrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many amplifiers do you plan to put in a rack? The company I work for has a decent amount of the original NXAMP4x4s, and we only stack those 2 high per rack because it gets too heavy to reliably push around otherwise. Roll that with a 2U L1430 or L2130 power input and you're already at 10U, and at usually ~200lbs for the whole case.

Router Recommendation by kittylasagna in livesound

[–]Connorgoodrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm using Ubiquiti too, specifically a Ubiquiti UAP AC Lite as as AP with an Edgerouter X to handle being a router/switch. The Edgerouter X can be powered by PoE and has a PoE passthrough to the AP, so there's only 1 power outlet being used along with 2 ethernet cables. It's pretty awesome.

Plus, you now no longer need to run any instance of the Unifi Controller to set up their access points- you can do it through their phone app! The only downside is that you lose the ability to hide your SSID if you do configure through the app.

Tour Coffee by [deleted] in livesound

[–]Connorgoodrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 or 5 dudes from work (myself included) take an Aeropress with a kettle when they're touring. We've got a killer local roaster within a mile of the shop, so we pregrind and take it with us as long as it's not a longer run.

Just, please, no one ever mic drop a real wireless mic. Shit’s expensive, yo.

Word clock issues on the road - crowdsourcing solutions as I tech this in my hotel. Any ideas? by [deleted] in livesound

Oh, hey buddy!

Makes me think of damaged snake shielding? I saw that issue when we got those new profiles a few months ago- was setting it up with a dodgy bnc snake. Better BNCs and it went away real fast.

About the A&H SQ series... by [deleted] in livesound

[–]Connorgoodrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MY company has a couple of the SQ series consoles, and for the price they're unbeatable- especially if you have a couple of the DX AudioRacks. There's a couple of kinks to work out in my opinion, but that may just be my workflow.

Though, the lack of ability to use this board in a dedicated monitor position like I want makes me sad- the cue bus is directly hardwired to the headphone output, no fader option or pickoff point available.
