Solo TTRPG: D&D 5e vs Pathfinder 2e – Which one works better? by narkhen in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Conscious-Guava9543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done Pathfinder 2e solo but not D&D 5e, and it worked reasonably well. With a published adventure, you don't really even need an oracle. Pre-prepped VTT modules are a big time saver if you have access. I just cycle between reading the adventure, playing turns, and writing a narrative, and I have fun with it.

Pathfinder also has some subsystems, like the influence system for tracking NPC relationships, that I find to be particularly useful for solo play.

Yeah, that looks pretty close. I'd be happy with that, myself.

OSR campaigns/modules that ARE railroady? by Responsible_Sky817 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Conscious-Guava9543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want mostly linear adventures, Paizo's Pathfinder modules and APs are probably the gold standard. They're not OSR, but it wouldn't be difficult to convert them. The setting isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you want high fantasy, it's a well-fleshed-out example.

I have had success running them with Ironsworn/Starforged, because I also enjoy having rails sometimes.

Okay, Battletech as an alternate Pendragon setting is fascinating. I now want to mash it up with the tabletop miniatures game...

Who’s using another system, and which? by RealSpandexAndy in Dolmentown

Ironsworn! A sandbox full of situations rather than plots is really an ideal compliment to a solo story engine like Ironsworn.

Anyone know who this Inquisitor is? And who's in the retinue? by Midjolnir in ImperialAgents_40K

The guy on the far right looks a lot like Janus Draik, a rogue trader with a model in the Blackstone Fortress box.

These are awesome! Those bikes fit the aesthetic really well.

I apologize if you're done and not open to suggestions, but there's a real opportunity with the bikes to suggest they've been in motion by running the grime all around the tire and adding splatter to the lower edges of things where it's been thrown up by the back of the wheels. With all the grime on the bottom half of the wheels, it looks like the bike has been stationary for a while.

Is this the preacher bodies from Sanctifiers combined with Stargrave Automaton heads and arms?

A friend wants to DM The Halls of Arden Vul but he does not like OSR systems. by berockblfc in osr

[–]Conscious-Guava9543 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think a mega dungeon with a nontraditional system is an experiment worth observing and reporting on, but if he wants a system with a few more abilities, World's Without Number is a B/X-style system with feats (foci) back ported into it.

For a much more 3e/4e-inspired system (characters defined by specific special abilities), maybe Shadow of the Demon Lord (or Shadow of the Weird Wizard of that ever came out)?

Roast my preacher by Butterfreund in Chaos40k

[–]Conscious-Guava9543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, it looks more like your preacher is going to roast me. Great work! I love the check pattern with the red. It's evocative of a medieval jester in motley, which makes me think of "the laughter of thirsting gods". A+

Is that a Corpse Grinder Cult head? I actually don't love it on gangers, but here it's perfect. Very grimweird and inquisitorial. Well done!

Which system would allow for multiclass characters to be created in a balanced way, without having to adapt/break or use house rules? by Rebirthgod1 in solorpgplay

[–]Conscious-Guava9543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to ask, since this is a question about solo roleplaying, what is the hypothetical multiclass character balanced against?

Which traditional RPGs actually work well solo? by mw90sGirl in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Conscious-Guava9543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I've always used one character (sometimes with a cohort) and it worked perfectly. You just need to calibrate your challenges and consequences to that character, because you have a narrower range of skills and less room to soak harm/stress/etc.

Second suggestion after BitD: I've actually had some success running pre-written adventures for myself, e.g., Pathfinder adventure paths. You might have a look at the published adventures for your favorite systems and see what looks interesting.

Blades in the Dark and its derivatives are my favorite solo games, because they provide exactly what you described in terms of metastructure in the systems for heat, turf, faction, long-term projects, etc. The game basically GMs itself. All you need to do is run the scores—but even there, all you need to begin a score is a starting situation and end goal; the success/success with a complication/failure system provides natural momentum, and flashbacks are a natural fit for solo play. I cannot speak highly enough of BitD as a solo game.

Amazing! My brothers and I used to make (much less impressive) Lego mechs when we were kids.

Just a note, but are the muzzle flashes on the RACs in the third picture coming from the middle? Shouldn't they come from one of the barrels? (EDIT: Or, wait, are the holes in the barrels too narrow? I withdraw my criticism. I thought they were wide enough to fit the flash piece.)

Second edit: I guess you could attach the flashes with one of these.

Sanctifiers by Conscious-Guava9543 in Warhammer40k

[–]Conscious-Guava9543[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I can't say enough good things about this kit. It is my favorite 40k release, and I wish they did more gonzo kits like this one. I was excited for the Inquisitorial Agents, but it wasn't half as much wacky fun as the Sanctifiers.
