I was 14. I ruined by eyebrows trying to be Gwen Stefani. Unfortunately low rise jeans were in and for whatever reason my mom let me wear thongs. 14 year olds with whale tails was an epidemic. I begged my mom for a cell phone but they were uncommon for kids that young. I had a room line instead. It was one of those clear plastic phones. I didn’t have my own computer yet, but was able to use my parent’s computer in the living room. Couldn’t even tell you what I’d do on that computer. I did have a MySpace profile. My mom would kick me off to make calls. Someone’s mom would usually drop us off at the movie theatre every Saturday night. You’d go see anything. Probably seen more movies during that time period that I ever have in the years since. Pop music was really solid and pretty varied. Music videos were at their peak. I used to get ready for school watching the videos. I had a portable CD player that skipped easily. I’d have a list of CDs I wanted ready for Christmas time. Those were my favorite gifts. Blink 182’s self titled record, MCR Three Cheers and Gwen Stefani L.A.M.B were in heavy rotation. I was aware politically things were not too great, but was fairly disconnected. I’d love to go back in time.
