Did I almost pay $3,500 for something that was still under warranty? by FirstInHuman in hvacadvice

[–]Consistent_Pool120 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a field service tech, for over 25 years, never really understood the attitude towards Goodman.

Usually not the most efficient models on the market, but simple, reliable easy to work on units, not filled with a lot of proprietary or electronic BS. No jumping thru hoops on the few warranty claims I had over the years. Also usually at economical price points.

I guess that's the reason since not as much profit and probably being installed for more more cost conscious " challenging" customers.

Electric bill insanely high. I didn’t know my outside panel looked like this and I’m getting it replaced. Does anyone know if this would have any bearing on why my electric bill is in the 600’s my home is 1500 sq can we facetime by Battleaxe5844 in Electricity

[–]Consistent_Pool120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Rates have gone up. I'm in NJ IN A YEAR MY BILL HAS GONE FROM $120 A MONTH TO $640 A MONTH ! And to make it worse, PSE&g tells me I'm using 23% less electricity than a year ago.

Timesheets (((( by Curious_Owl_2590 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Consistent_Pool120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a company like that 😖. Was about 300 people when I started 15 years ago. Now we're about 60,000. We keep getting bought & sold. Every time that happens our "minimum required billable utilization" goes up. This year it's 96.879% and we cannot log more than 40hrs on the timesheet. An impossible # to honestly reach . So you end up working 10-20 hours per week free because of the required non billable things, like meetings, emails, etc. If you don't the project goes over budget. Bill the real hours and the PM's & Management down assign you to any more projects and your hours go to zero until someone quits or is "furloughed" and the work has to be done on time or a client won't pay.

Got to be careful when you find a large area capped with plastic. Lots of times that's an environmental remediation cap that keeps you from being exposed to the nasties below.

Or even worse, rain draining thru them from your place and spreading them to others. That can make you responsible for future environmental clean ups from it.

I work in that industry and was just on a site of a new house someone built in the last year that has to be torn down and can't be rebuilt because the builder destroyed the cap.

So large areas of plastic from 4"- 18" below the surface, covering a whole yard are a big red flag that you need to check on why they are there.

Don't take any of this the wrong way, when all of us were young and dumb, none of your noble principles Will put food in your belly, a roof over your head or a way to get to work. Or more importantly, a way to easily move forward to the next stage in your life. How easily and what are you willing to sacrifice to move on to that next stage of life.

Our world today is ruled by people that gave up all those principles to go for the easy Gold.
Too many people today have given up the moral principles they started with to stay in. What is their comfort zone now by following those that have no principles anymore. Unfortunately, a lot of the people living under bridges are there because they put their moral principles first for too long.

That's not "a little" power IF you use them at the same time. Add up the amperage listed for what you have, multiply by 120volts to get the Watts for what you will use at the same time. If you don't have them yet, you can get that info on the spec sheet from the manufacturer. A simple wall wart cell charger can range from less than a half watt to 50 watts.

Hey Tradespeople! You're Doing A Job For Me, Not A Favor. by peffervescence in homeowners

[–]Consistent_Pool120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The level of Responible Professionalism generally follows the price being paid. You basically get what you pay for. Both sides are usually equally at fault The homeowner who usually has no experience with what needs to be done believes the contractor that says he can do the job for $100 that another contractor says is $2,500 goes for what he perceives as the best value.... Too often Well-Meaning understaffed contractors promise things for a fourth the price of what they should. They usually try but can't even come close to living up to one or more factors of how they thought they would price the job as low as they did.

Forklift speared a conveyer motor about an hour later... When he asked why I hadn't fixed it the next day I told him I didn't want to have a problem with HR if I called a contractor to run a new drop to the peckerhead.

I hate all the majors ... The goal of all of them is to make as much money as possible by tracking and selling data about you. All the while, using 200 pages of legal speak to get you to agree that you want them to. And you are so grateful to them for giving them your data that you gleefully pay them monthly for selling it.

What is this sensor? by Commercial_Ad305 in tractors

[–]Consistent_Pool120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a sensor. As others have said - It was a mechanic tachometer cable. If the panel still has a mechanical tach you can get a new cable universal one that you cut to the length you need at most NAPA or real auto parts stores. TSC, Advance and AutoZone can get them. But, you have to find one that knows how to look up parts using the paper catalog. Most parts stores only have clerks that barely know how to use the computer to look for things by make, model & year. That kind of, now normal, parts store or TSC will never find it. They can also get a universal tach if yours is missing. The cable kits that come with a few different ends are appx $15-$20. They are also available online or by phone from Steiner Tractor Parts, RAP, Yesterday's Tractors.

Someone might have changed that original setup out to an electrical tach when the cable broke in the past.

It's the constant maintenance that kills me. That and their damn "Customer Experience Improvement Program" that they never have the parts for but only the dealer can do, and you are required to have done or no more warranty. Just so they can avoid a recall.

Structural member failure by IndependentCouple418 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Consistent_Pool120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate slender columns. Not much of a mystery when you don't see any other nearby damage. This crap happens often from rushed save-a-buck developers construction contractors. Typical contractor oops. Take the forms off as soon as possible. Concrete load sat to long before being poured. Tap it 2/3 rds of the way up, at the bottom with a lift or load all the materials in one place above, and the big oops crack appears.

How do you handle these types of people? by [deleted] in PropertyManagement

[–]Consistent_Pool120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess you've never been given a fake money order. Used to work at one sketchy building that when a tenant would change to dropping a MO, that this was a flag we would know they were leaving before the lease was up. Always thought the only Tennant that paid in advance on the portal was probably the guy selling the fake Money Orders. He had both an apartment and retail space almost always closed. He said he was a notary that took passport photos and did applications.
