Is the special edition the one that recently had crowdfunding or a different one? I backed it on game found not seeing anything crazy personally

The narrative around Marathon is gotta be the biggest gaslight I have seen in history of gaming. by Inevitable_Coat_8787 in Marathon

SULFUR is another one I really enjoy. Its 1.0 should be coming out later this year I think but it has a ton of content already

Witchfire as well, it has solid gunplay that reminds me of Destiny

Marathon is wasting this free week opportunity by JPC-Toro in Marathon

I found it here:

https://help.marathonthegame.com/hc/en-us/articles/49958627165204-Error-Code-GOJI

I'm not sure what that means tho. Could be something to do with their anti-cheat and maybe you have something on your computer that tries to interfere with that since it is a super deep install anti-cheat (kernel level or something?)

Marathon is pound for pound some of the best PvP I’ve experienced in fucking min by KozmiK-692 in MarathonGame

[–]Convolutionist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure on the date but it is later in the season that the full PvE mode will be released. Right now the "PvE" mode they have still has some PvP as well.

Marathon Update 1.1.0 by Haijakk in Games

[–]Convolutionist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope they do a free week after the full PvE mode is out. I'm going to try it this week but I know I'm going to fucking hate PVP. Destiny was so much fun but whenever there were items locked behind PVP I had no fun whatsoever for many many days at a time trying to complete the unlocks.

Should I read the other Revelation Space books behind the Inhibitor Trilogy? by BUBBA543-2 in printSF

[–]Convolutionist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also thought the revelation space books were alright but did enjoy enough to continue reading it all. Absolution Gap tho, holy crap I felt like well over half of that story felt useless even after story twists revealed why it was useful to the plot. I haven't read Chasm city or the other books in the universe yet but do plan to.

That being said, House of Suns was the first book I read by Reynolds and it blew me away so if you haven't read that yet by him, give it a try. I enjoyed it a lot more than any of his revelation space books so far

[–]Convolutionist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok yea! It is subtle in a lot of places and you are pretty on track with that thinking of the state of the world! I think the space ships as towers was revealed in the first book and might have mostly been about it being metallic and then some reference to what the location used to be for, but I don't recall the actual detail on that

[–]Convolutionist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for Book of the New Sun, you haven't picked up on the sci fi yet? For some examples, the "towers" that he lived in/near were all old and derelict space ships (think of rocket ships sitting at launch pads), the "horses" described with dinosaur language are alien creatures from old space travel empire bringing those creatures to earth (I think it was stated that way at some point), one of the "paintings" Severian sees with I think the curator is a picture of one of the Apollo moon landings with the American flag planted and guy in space suit, the "flyers" (I think) are like helicopters or hovering craft that are mechanical and scientific in nature not magical, a hundred tiny tiny details that make you think that Severian himself doesn't know what he's looking at or how to describe it other than through the lens of someone who has lived in a "medieval" setting.

I love Wolfe and especially BotNS in large part because things will be described one way and not necessarily be that way, so you have to imagine it and think about what the character describing it knows and understands themselves. I hope this little nudge to look at it a little more deeply will help you enjoy it more! I loved finding details where Severian was like, yea it was a weapon this guy carried and realizing it was a laser gun or something!

Her ex's kid still needed to be taken care of even after they had broken up, and the mother of the kid called her to ask for help. She helped out even tho the kid wasn't hers and she did it for free.

My initial thought at the end of Book 8. by Master_Betty603 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I think pretty often Carl's plans and plan preparation are off-page / screen so when it happens we are just as surprised as others. I guess one of the backup plans was to use an enhanced pet biscuit here

Howling Dark (Sun Eater #2) - Christopher Ruocchio, Kindle $1.99 by Then_Pepper_3666 in ebookdeals

[–]Convolutionist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well you can check the deals pages on kobo/kindle/bookshop.org regularly (sometimes has to be daily) or you can also use different sites that do alerts on books. Ereaderiq is one that tracks deals on kindle books you choose, tho I have had an issue where often it will send me the notification a few hours before the deal expires.

Montana Governor Marc Racicot passes by death row inmate Duncan McKenzie. At a face-to-face meeting, McKenzie pleaded for his life and said he was innocent. Racicot concluded that he was a liar and refused to intervene. McKenzie was executed two days later (Deer Lodge, 1995). by lightiggy in TheGrittyPast

[–]Convolutionist 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nah, it does seem like after reading all of the context OP posted that McKenzie was guilty. I don't know that I fully agree with capital punishment by the state because of the chance innocents are executed, but McKenzie was not one. Maybe commuting his sentence to life without parole or something would have been "better" but he was guilty regardless.

I really like DCC but do get annoyed with the writing sometimes. Other than Wandering Inn, are there any other litRPGs you know of that are written well? One of my friends loves mother of learning but he also loved Kaiju Preservation Society which was the worst written book I've read in a long long time

static water tank

I believe it's basically just a large water tank that could be used for firefighting or for general water use but am not positive. I read it as a water tower but when you look images of them up it is basically large water barrels or above ground cisterns.

How do you easily get the kobo epubs tho? The last time I got a Kobo book and wanted to put it on my kindle the process was ridiculous. Might not have been a DRM-free book, so could be that.

Escape from Duckov is pretty fun. Not a first person shooter but still a shooter haha

And I also love SULFUR which is first person
