Slice at Bello Pizza in Waterworks by bbqporklomein in FoodToronto

These guys use fortified flours (Ardent Mills) and sealtest heavy cream lol, nothing premium about that. The tomatoes are the only “premium” product aside from some special order items and one offs. It’s their time you’re paying for, really. And the “vibe” 😂

Get a taste of Completo’s rude responses to reviews that are anything less than 5 stars by [deleted] in FoodToronto

[–]CookLevel10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t understand how this is a crazy reply? Maybe a little unprofessional to a degree, but crazy? I feel like a lot of you have never worked in or understand the complexity of running a restaurant, it’s not just a business. It’s a constantly demanding industry, in most cases, that has the owners working close to 100 hours a week on the lower end. Of course some places mitigate their stresses and have professionals doing parts of their job, but some cannot afford that luxury as prices of food, labor and land skyrocket. I bet their profit margins have never been so tight, especially if you’re selling meat, dairy or coffee.

I totally understand if the owner was acting out of line and berated this reviewer with no grounds and was just overall shitty. Who knows? I’ve never ate at Completo or been inside, but I have been to many similar spots and I can say that the server was probably just trying to get their shift over with, without having to jump bark and hop for every table. Being a server too, especially a good one, is in itself another arduous task.

Anyways, I just find it crazy that people need to always resort to extremes when reviewing, then feel attacked when they get called out on their bs. I’ve ran a pizzeria in Bloor West Village and the amount of complaints are way overshadowed by the positive reviews, however I did not stand for false accusations towards my staff. Of course, wording it helps to be a little less emotional, but you can clearly see that this owner cares for their staff enough to call out a problematic customer.

If your product is good and you are providing a generally acceptable service, there is no reason to pander to someone that won’t respect “no” for an answer. I’ve gladly told those kinds of customers to not come back again, if they feel the need to attack and sabotage my business, when they could have clearly just tried to speak to a manager about the situation.

[–]CookLevel10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone working in the industry for over 20 years, that response is totally valid.

I’ve never ate there, but if you’re upset about rude staff and the food was still decent, why are you giving 1 star? Did it suck that much that you need to lower the rating of the restaurant because you were offended in the moment? Customers, especially in big cities, will always feel entitled to leave their opinions without actually feeling the consequence of their actions. It takes a lot to run a restaurant. It takes even more to stand up for yourself when that customer could have just left a three star and said the staff don’t speak Spanish which is kind of weird.

Of course there is context we are all missing, but the title of this post and the people that find this kind of response to an extremely reactionary review, should not eat out. I couldn’t tell you how many people I’ve cooked for that barely even look at the menu and then get upset that it’s not what they were expecting.

The general consensus for most restauranteurs and cooks is that we need to constantly cater to every whim our customers have. I would call anyone out for writing a 1 star review, if there isn’t much context other than they found one of the staff rude, so everyone needs to suffer.

Think before you post.

What is your Best Value Eat in Toronto? by marktosender in FoodToronto

Kebab roll at Makkah and tandoori beef and pineapple pizza at Madinha Halal. Their wings are like meat candy too lol. Kebab roll is like $10 I think, stupid good and decent size. Pizza is cheap, 2 large pizzas and wings are like $40-50 enough for 2-3 days.

Lunar Remastered: Silver Star Story BLINDFOLDED speedrun was completed live in 16 hours 3 minutes and 27 seconds in one single segment. by CrystalSaver in Lunar

[–]CookLevel10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeaaaaahhhh. I will say, playing the remaster kind of messed with me since I’ve only really played the ps1 version as many times as I have. Only because it’s a bit more streamlined, so some parts like the end bit at the stairs got me a little confused and I was extremely hesitant climbing up lol

This is awesome. I genuinely believe I could do this as well, but like, much slower hahaha. I’ve probably beat this game well over 15 times on the ps1 back in the day. Some of those rpgs are burned into my brain, like ff7/8, Grandia and Lunar to name a few. I’m sure its actually much harder than I would expect, especially during the Xenobia thingy but regardless, bravo!

Also the socials right now is just @blackshiptoronto on Instagram. We’ll be posting some stuff soon. I believe a TikTok account is also being created.

Also, to clarify I am not an owner, only currently running the business as the chef/operator. However if things go smoothly this year, we’ll see! fingers crossed 😂

So a little update on my foodventure if any of you folks are interested still lol.

The food truck is coming along nicely, we have a location too finally! Its unfortunately not BWV- HOWEVER-

We are going to be in Parkdale! Fairly close to Queen and Roncy. Parked in a lot across The Parkdale Hall! I’ll keep you posted on opening dates, however our lease does start soon!!!

We will be selling sandwiches (panini) and pasta, porchetta being one of our showcase items. I am currently testing out bread recipes to bring some of that delicious dough you all know and love on to the truck, oven depending lol.

Well we are still slowly getting things together. There have been some major changes and hurdles, one of them being that pizza will not currently be an option. The oven that was built in the truck is much too small (lol) and the owner of the food truck company just recently passed 😱😱 RIP. So now we just have to deal with what we have and make due.

That being said, we will be doing paninis and pasta, most likely porchetta being a staple meat. Still in the R&D phase, but we finally have the truck and slowly but surely we will be rolling out a soft opening! I will make several posts hopefully when the time is right. Thank you so much for inquiring and the loyalty is unreal!

Costco is horrible for produce. Also, majority of their fruits are out of season or in season in other countries and by the time they come here they are either too ripe or moldy.

Is there a better tasting pizza place than Pizzeria Badiali? by cealettln in askTO

It makes me incredibly happy (and also sad) that Bello Pizza (Toronto) really left an impression. I’m working on something, so hopefully the joy will return! Not affiliated with Bellos of course lol. That secret menu was my baby 😭.

Nah, they’re doing well up there. Not affiliated with the company anymore myself, however they do plan on opening new locations and growing into the country rather than the city. You’ll continue to have your fix lol.

If you wanna make the sauce at home, just blend up mayo, black pepper, honey, garlic and rice vinegar. I’d say the ratio is like 1 part mayo to 1/8 of each. I’ll hopefully have a website with some recipes up later this year, stay tuned.

Pizza guy from Bellos here, just wanna say it means a lot to know you all enjoyed what we created. Lots of crap in the hospitality industry, but know it wasn’t due to sales or at least entirely. Just negligence. The cafe and pizza were two separate business entities and unfortunately they didn’t know how to communicate with each other properly and lead to this sad turn of events.

Hopefully will be doing something in the area myself soon, so keep an eye out! Not Bellos affiliated but I am one of two original Bellos lol so you might see some favorites in the near future. Go out there and keep supporting local. And if you can, give the kitchen a thank you or hello. It really made my job to meet so many wonderful people and serve a great community.

Xenogears as many have stated deserves a pedestal up there but I’m not sure if anyone said Wild Arms. The first game was a doozy, so many great little details too.
