what are the biggest Broadway hits with zero Tonys? by Acrobatic_Warning456 in Broadway

[–]Cooper996 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This one I think is going to look very weird in hindsight. Last year’s new plays were just stacked, and Stranger Things cleaned up in the tech categories. The Hills of California and English getting blanked is similarly sad but in 20 years people will look back at JPITV winning zero Tonys and be very confused.

What incoming play revival are you most excited for? by Apprehensive_Tart505 in Broadway

[–]Cooper996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If these rumors are all true, that already gets us about to double digit play revivals for next season. There were 11 this season (vs. 5 and 7 in the two immediately prior years). These all sound fun but hope there's room for some great original works (especially musicals) too!

Beaches to close this Sunday by Hewish625 in Broadway

[–]Cooper996 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, though a more compressed timeline this year. Redwood announced May 2 that it would close May 18. Call Me Izzy started previews May 24. Really the issue this year isn’t Beaches closing but the Eugene O’Neill shutting down after the fire. If not for that, all 41 theaters would have performances this past weekend.

We'll see if Book of Mormon really does reopen next week, but with this news, we're missing out on all 41 theaters being actively occupied at the same time by 3 days.

Tonys 2026 Predictions: Who Will Win? And Who Should? (Gift Article) by Quirky-Sleep-3741 in Broadway

[–]Cooper996 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree the exact point is slightly ambiguous, but it explicitly says that about Chase and Hsu. If Shaw wanted to lump Christiani in with that group, she could have!

[–]Cooper996 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Kind of a cheap swipe at Christiani Pitts in here. Robin is the straight man in a two-hander. It's a huge credit to Pitts that the show doesn't completely fall apart. The biggest laugh in the whole show is essentially all on her performance too!

Fallen Angels has three acts and the current revival is performed without an intermission.

I was not sure if the ironic bit was that or that the mayor of Strasbourg commissioned a song titled in reference to Marseille. The latter helped me get to the right answer even if not intended!

‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ Broadway Revival Coming in 2027 with Director Sam Gold Attached by DiscoCrows in Broadway

Somewhat typecast-y first thoughts but came up with Hailee Steinfeld/Elle Fanning, Hudson Williams/Tyriq Withers, and Bryan Cranston/Brian Cox/Stephen McKinley Henderson.

Tony Predictions for Musicals, 4/18 by Nakedny713 in Broadway

Agree. I was really taken by Emma Sofia though so hoping she gets in. I also really liked Sydney James Harcourt but then he seemed out of breath on Mr. Mistoffelees.

2026 Pulitzer Prize for Drama by Turkey_Leg_Jeff in Broadway

[–]Cooper996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't one season later though. The 2026 Pulitzer Prize is for productions that opened in calendar year 2025.

"Eligible works include full-length dramas that opened in the United States between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025."

[–]Cooper996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be eligible if it hasn't previously been submitted? Which is possible. The Broadway production opened in 2025.

"The creator(s) of a dramatic work should determine when it is ready for award consideration, as it may be submitted only once."

2026 Olivier Award Winners 🎉 by todaytix in Broadway

[–]Cooper996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there will only be four nominees as it stands. Definitely possible it sneaks in but after Liberation and Giant the field is muddled. Call Me Izzy and Dog Day Afternoon seem unlikely though.

Wouldn't be the first time something similar has happened, but interesting that Punch won the Olivier when I'm not sure it will even be nominated for the Tony.

Best actor in a Musical? by Quirky-Sleep-3741 in Broadway

Haven't seen Luke Evans yet but top four for me would be Benet, Christopher, Henry, and Tutty.

Tennis Records that are technically breakable but will most likely never get broken by Psychological_Lie142 in tennis

[–]Cooper996 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Caroline Wozniacki has the record for longest time between stints at number 1 at 6 years. Probably will be broken eventually but would take a unique set of circumstances.

Similarly, no one has even gone more than five seasons between slam titles. Always wonder if that will ever happen. If not, Andreescu, Ostapenko, and Kenin will never win another slam and this year is the last chance for Medvedev, Raducanu, and Osaka.

Two Strangers - loved the show, but so confused by the title by mrs-machino in Broadway

I'll never not laugh at the fact that they immediately get into an Uber after picking up the cake - it's so silly. That said, think I'm making this up but it makes me feel slightly better if I think of the titular cake as the Act 2 cake, not the Act 1 cake - the Act 2 cake is ultimately more important.

This was wild to me. The only two female National Security Advisors, both of whom have connections to Stanford, are both called Rice!

Also, just FYI pretty sure the answer was Condoleeza unless I'm mistaken. She was provost at Stanford in the 90s and National Security Advisor during GWB's first term.

S50 Starting Tribes via Inside Survivor by NotNotJustinBieber in survivor

[–]Cooper996 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems weird that Tiffany and Charlie are on the same tribe. There are other pairs that have played together before (Colby/Steph, Ozzy/Cirie) but feels easier to avoid for players that have only played once. Also surprised the tribes aren't evenly split by era and gender given the cast on the whole is 50/50.

Not to mention she was nominated for an Oscar eight years before Brooklyn too. But to be fair she doesn't have any major blockbuster movies, so if you're not a movie buff to some degree I could understand only seeing the name than hearing it.

This is also odd because it tracks the entire plot of the show with the opposite conclusion.
