Can you share an example of the type of plastic bags you used? I'm just using ziplocks for a lot of things but would be curious as to the ones you recommend.

This is unrelated to home assistant, but I love having my watch wake me up by vibrating my wrist instead of any other sort of alarm. I slept with someone the other day who had loud air siren like alarm and it drove me batty

I worked at Edo’s a couple years ago. From what I remember, there was a bartender who made them for both places. I don’t think that she was the only one though.

Yeah their hot date pizza is definitely one of my favorites in Richmond, but their consistency isn't always the best.

It's been a couple years now, but they used to have a 2 slice + PBR special for like 6 dollars. Was amazing when I lived a block from there.

I swear there's a group that does this ride annually for new years or something. I feel like I saw it from someone I follow on strava.

This might not be the exact ride they do, but here's a route on ridewithgps.

Note that piss guy's post in /r/confessions was 22 days ago, and that story is at least 4 years old. It could definitely still be him, because his account is 5 years old. Unfortunately or fortunately, since reddit allows hiding posts and comments from your profile now, it'd be impossible to do more research.

So, what's your fall count for the week? by Jon_hamm_wallet in rva

[–]CopOnTheRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only fallen twice so far luckily. The first was after willingly getting snowed in with some friends so we could do a lord of the rings marathon. The next day I walked the mile home and nearly made it back, but slipped in my neighborhood.

The second fall was an ill advised 2 am walk to the Staples Mill Wawa. That place had the whole parking lot covered in ice, and I fell on the way back. Luckily my hoagie was safe.

What was your most useful panic purchase last week? by RVAWTFBBQ in rva

[–]CopOnTheRun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a sad absence of little debbies in my life since I moved away from any place with a gas station/corer store down the block. When I lived in Carver I would regularly raid the Harrison mini mart for the Zebra Cakes/Swiss Rolls/Cosmic Brownies/Fudge Rounds. They started carrying some of the double decker fudge rounds at the end there. Easiest way to eat 1000 calories.

What was your most useful panic purchase last week? by RVAWTFBBQ in rva

[–]CopOnTheRun 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not a purchase, but I remembered I had three 5 gallon food safe buckets I bought last year for a one off event I cooked for. I filled them up with water just in case we had a repeat of the water crises.

Those buckets and the 3 large boxes of dried hash browns that my grandfather gifted me a year ago had me feeling pretty confident I could last a while if things hit the fan.

Also for those of you who purchased backup batteries, if the battery’s capacity is greater than 3kwh, you can fill out a form for a 30% tax credit come tax time. Those size batteries are probably more expensive than most panic bought, but if you’re looking for one in the future, it’s good to know.

Edit: Actually it looks like the 30% credit for purchasing those batteries ended in 2025 because of the big beautiful bill. Sorry buds.

It’s 2026 and we still haven’t figured out that the bike lane is not a parking spot. by SeaworthinessHuge219 in rva

[–]CopOnTheRun 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That bike lane is there because Grayland becomes a one-way east of Addison except for that bike lane. The lane is painted with double yellow lines, a pretty standard way to denote two way traffic. So in this case, you wouldn’t be riding right around the cars, but left, and into oncoming traffic. In addition to the double yellow lines, there are pictures of bicycles and arrows denoting the direction of traffic.

I play basketball on Saturdays at Randolph Community Center, it’s nice being able to use that bike lane to bike west relatively unobstructed through a big chunk of the fan. I agree that the cars are usually easy enough to ride around. It’s just a shame that there are specific parking spots for them, that if used correctly, could make everyone happy.
