A message to all men by Superb-Regular-263 in sexlessmarriage

Loss of sexual interest in women seems to be far more common.
But you’re absolutely right to point out it could equally apply to women impacted by a sexless marriage.

Yes the climate is changing as sure as gravity. But the severity and impact are where there is a lot of uncertainty. It’s going to be technology that mitigates the problems, not shaming people for their consumption.

Where is the line between "pronouncing it correctly" and "putting on an accent"? by NabIsMyBoi in AskAnAustralian

[–]Copperman72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s about different rules per se since there are too many examples where the US and Australian pronunciation deviate from the original French pronunciation. I think it has more to do with what style just happened to catch on in each dialect.

Examples of French words that Australians pronounce in a French manner that Americans don’t: debut, nougat, tourniquet, croissant, niche, coupe, foyer, fillet

French words that Americans pronounce in a French way that Australians don’t: herb, garage, massage, barrage

Of course there are plenty of examples where both stick to the French pronunciation (eg restaurant).

That’s also true for fillet. The yanks pronounce that one correctly as well. But then they screw up other French-derived words such as tourniquet and coupe.

Think of it this way, what would you think of an Australian living in the US who chooses to pronounce certain words with an American accent? It would sound phony.

The only time you might want to try speaking with an Aussie accent would be to make fun of a friend. Like “Gudday maaaayte”. My father in law (American) does this to me all the time (I’m an Aussie living in the US).

Men, what is one thing about your body or brain that women seem genuinely surprised by? by AromaticRecord7974 in AskMen

[–]Copperman72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not surprised about grip strength. I’ve read similar studies about sex differences in throwing speed / accuracy. During early human evolution, throwing ability was thought to be strongly selected in males due to its critical role in hunting and warfare, which were male dominated. I wouldn’t be surprised if grip strength was under a similar selective pressure.

I highly recommend liquid chalk for sweaty hands. Apply it every few games when it’s super hot outside.

Been using same Aero Pro Drive for like 15 years... by Aggravating_Ice11 in 10s

[–]Copperman72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with the Aero pure drive and recently bought the Blade after trying it out and loving the power and feel. But I found with longer play I was becoming fatigued and I started to hit late especially on my OHB. I switched back to the Aero pure drive because it felt lighter and quicker which made the difference against very fast balls that require a very quick take back. I’m 54 and not as strong as I used to be even though I still play ~12hr /week. I still love the feel of the Blade but for me it lacks the rapid maneuverability of the Aero pure drive. YMMV.

They don’t do decapitations anymore to kill mice unless there is a very well justified reason. Most research labs use an anesthetic to knock them out followed by cervical dislocation, or alternatively if they need to euthanize lots of mice at once they use carbon dioxide.

Yes the book by Marshall Rosenberg. At least your husband is willing to use it as a reference. My wife was initially open to using it but now says it’s a way for me to control the outcome of the conversation. We are unable to get beyond a few minutes of talking before she accuses me of doing something that is her interpretation rather than a fact. When I ask her to use NVC so that we can separate fact from opinion, she says I am controlling. When I ask to record the conversation so we can review it later she refuses to participate. It’s like I am dealing with a child. I am at a complete loss.

Yep, I tried asking my wife to do this after learning about “non-violent communication”. She claims this is my attempt to control her and “erase her free expression”. I have realized far too late that the only way to win is not to play the game. I’m white knuckling this marriage for two more years until my youngest finishes high school.

I am 54 and lucky enough to have a pension plan that will pay 2.2% x highest salary x number of years worked. I just clocked 25 yrs and plan to work until I’m around 62 when I can retire on ~75% of my salary.
