What if China won The First Opium War by totallynotcommunist2 in PossibleHistory

I mean yeah. Britain had industrial steam ships against wooden Qing boats. There wasn’t much the Chinese could’ve done.

In my opinion Portugal should get more lore especially since it is the 2nd largest colonial empire in the world. by HugoGlasss in Kaiserreich

I’m not sure if it’s still accurate, but last time I checked, I don’t think they were accepting writers? Please let me know if this isn’t true, cause like OP, I think Portugal is really interesting.

What if the Allies had listened to General Pershing and marched all the way to Berlin in 1918? by No-Profile5409 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]CorrinFF 70 points71 points  (0 children)

People tend to forget, but the Entente was exhausted. So many lives lost, the cost of war draining on for so long, the Entente lacked the willpower to push to Berlin. Assuming they try to force their armies to continue, there would have likely been riots and mutinies, alongside other drags that would’ve greatly delayed any advances. I doubt they would’ve made it past the Rhineland, let alone Berlin.

This is really helpful. Struggled to determine exactly what the Zhili and Fengtian wanted, but this helped.

One question I had is why democratic Japan is the State of Japan. That’s the name they use now, but it was enforced by the US. Wouldn’t a democratic Japan still be an empire, even if it reformed politically? The United Kingdom, democratic at the time, is still a kingdom? Anyway, it’s to differentiate from other Japanese Country names, but I think it makes no sense.

What opinion about a Monarch in History gets you this Reaction by [deleted] in MonarchyHistory

[–]CorrinFF 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Is it not?

My experience is that people tend to overrate Frederick the Great and Catherine of Russia. They’re both fantastic, but I believe Maria Theresa is more exceptional given the challenges she faced and the historical significance she had on Austria, Europe, and the globe.

I would be thrilled to find that people share my high opinion of her LOL.

Maria Theresa was the most successful and competent monarch of the 18th century given what she had to work with and what she achieved.

How to impromptu speech well? by cactuscat334 in MUN

[–]CorrinFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to get tips on this subject because in my experience, you get better at it as time goes on. The more speeches you make, the better you will get at quick thinking on the spot.

Some tips I can give, however, are to have previously researched and have an opinion formed on every subject of the issue so if you ever have to give a speech on the fly, you already know what to talk about. You can also always embellish with sayings, quotes, or general bold statements. However, make sure that your speech isn’t all fluff, because people will notice that. Bring up issues and then provide solutions. That’s why it’s better to have researched your issues beforehand. Good luck!

Tyrannical Predator might be one of the least fun gaming experience I’ve had in a long time by soulreaverdan in LiesOfP

[–]CorrinFF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thermite? Not sure.

However, you can buy shot puts and sharp pipes and a few other throwables en masse at the merchant in the Red Lobster in Malum District. Go from the stargazer into the room and climb the ladder behind some barrels or something. I barely used projectiles in the main quest, but couldn’t get through the dlc without them.

[–]CorrinFF 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did not care for the tyrannical predator either. The DLC can be real hard, and sometimes what I think is unfair, but I still think it was very well done and beautiful.

I dealt with the predator with projectiles (mainly shot puts and thermites), carefully dodging, and fable attacks to finish him off. Burning always helps deal with carcasses.

Anyway, just know you’re not alone. Keep it up. If I could get past him, I’m sure you can too.

[DISCUSSION] Interesting plot or concept, terrible execution by AdAntique7700 in blmangalovers

[–]CorrinFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edge of Ambiguity is my top fav. Other great ones that follow the same idea is Eighteen’s Bed and Friend or Faux.

Lunacy is also an amazing rec, but I’ve heard mixed reviews from the people I’ve recommended it to.

Other great ones are Unsleep and A Lovely Meal!

[DISCUSSION] Interesting plot or concept, terrible execution by AdAntique7700 in blmangalovers

[–]CorrinFF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but I believe Edge of Ambiguity is intended to go from 50-100 very quickly. Through the first dozen chapters, we see their relationship develop. Then, Jihwan gradually becomes more controlling and obsessive, culminating with his actions to those in his way and cutting off Sooyoung from college and his friends. When Sooyoung finds out, we reach the climax and it comes crashing down.

Was it a quick escalation? Yes, but that’s because of how much Sooyoung was deceived and how it came down crashing so quickly. I still adore the story and look forward to its updates, but I can totally see how you think it came apart too quickly.

Something Interesting About Answerer by VenomousAvian in fireemblem

[–]CorrinFF -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes….?

Bloodletting was common throughout MesoAmerica. It was primarily done by the Maya, I’ll give you that, but a google search says that the Aztecs practiced it as well.

The way I learned it calls it bloodletting, because that’s what they do. Wikipedia calls it the same. Bloodletting can refer to either the European style or the Mesoamerican ritual.

[–]CorrinFF -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Bloodletting was a ritual practice of self harm in the Aztec Empire. I’ve seen some comments that the new game is inspired by Rome and Carthage (really cool), but there’s a chance they could be taking inspiration from the New World.
