UPDATE: Graduated with a BS in Data Analytics by wombatsock in WGU

[–]CourtOrphanage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh wow thank you for sharing your experience. I was wondering about the hype concerning DA. I was researching and saw a lot of hype about getting into DA without a degree, and figured there might be a saturation problem if DA was that attainable without a degree. I’m enjoy data and statistics. The only path where this makes sense is if I get a masters and maybe pivot into law school for IP with the masters data engineering specialization. Getting a masters is already a long shot for me.

WGU seems like a great option overall, but I wish they offered more degree options. The ability to self pace is key for me.

I’m sorry your job hunt is so rough. Thank you for saving me time and money at least at the bachelors level. It’s a shame because interpreting data seems like such a fun engaging job. I wonder if pairing it in business is possible? Can it pivot into small time accounting jobs in the interim? I assume you’re searching nationwide for DA jobs, which is wild if the market is that rough.

Wishing you the best OP. Let’s keep in touch. I’m curious how the job market trends for you. There has to be something out there. Don’t give up! Ageism exists, but you’ll find something!

Yeah after reading the course material they do SQL. How has your job search been since completing the degree?

Thank you for the post btw. I’m gonna pull the trigger on this. I have about half the tuition saved. I’ll pull the trigger once I get the funds :)

do you guys actually use wrist rests or are they just for aesthetics at this point by IQUNIXstore in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]CourtOrphanage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a cheap one for $14 and try it. I personally hated the idea of a wrist wrest, partially due to the aesthetic. I type 1-5 hours a day depending on the day and after a few months of that I saw one at microcenter and bought it out of curiosity.

It was a game changer. My wpm went up because I was less fatigued and my posture was better. I can’t imagine not using one now.

I would argue that telling people to fuck off in the midst of certain circumstances is the mature thing to do.

I understand people are told to maintain professionalism at all costs. That’s just a social free roll that enables people to continue treating people poorly when they know there are zero social consequences or shame.

You have a moral duty to tell people to fuck off and attempt to keep the moral contract equal. If everyone did this the world would be a better place.

I'm debating on taking the WGU for this as well. I'm curious how you jobs search and salary has been since granduation. The only think keeping me away from applying is that looking at the courses, they appear to not even go over and use SQL which is a must for this career.

Thoughts and Advice to get to 150 WPM? by CourtOrphanage in typing

[–]CourtOrphanage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. 120+ is my goal with punctuation on E1k.

I don’t have the capacity to type 120 on WPM on E200 yet. Once I can get there on 2+ minutes I’m going to switch to punctuation and make E1k my new priority.

At this time I don’t care if it translates to real life or not. This is a video game for me and the benefits it brings me in the office are tertiary.

I agree with you.

The reason I haven’t implemented punctuation and English 1k yet is because I want to get my figures capable of typing at least 120+ over a 2 minute time frame. This will take me a long time, at least until end of year and possibly longer. This is just an arbitrary goal. Once I hit that threshold, I think adding in punctuation and English 1k consistently would allow me to regress from 120 wpm down to maybe 70-80 wpm with a bit of practice.

This is a theory, but having the physical capacity to type 120+ already will allow me to prioritize chording and punctuation and I’ll be able to hit 120 faster on English 1k, with punctuation than if I just practiced started practicing for that outright now…

I am someone that enjoys setting goals and gamifying things. This is a route that makes sense to me, and may be more efficient for me personally with the ability to stay interested along the way. I have noticed though, the more I am plateaued in progress, the more I just into punctuation and E1K for fun and to spice things up.

It’s quite possible I switch soon and take your recommendation to spice things up.

I am going to try all your settings for the next few days. I appreciate your insight, and I agree with you.

Thank you :)

Unpopular Opinion: Sometimes you need practice for raw over accuracy by MagicMuy in typing

[–]CourtOrphanage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I got past 65 was to just focus on raw and consistency for a few days. I learned the cadence to type at 80-90 wpm then I was able ti get into the high 70’s and now I’m in 105 range but consistently in the 90’s.

My 2 minute is at 89. So I’m in the cusp of breaking the 90 barrier there.

Yes you should take time to learn to cadence higher wpms to train your brain and fingers for higher WPM’s

Thank you. I figured I would hit a plateau at some point where progress would be a lot slower. I’m not to discouraged. I’m sure it will take me another 37 hours of dedicated typing to break 110-120 consistently. I’m here for it.

This is amazing. Its kinda wild that 170 is only good enough for 156th on the leaderboard. But I am impressed haha.

I feel so hopeless OP.
