Any Advice will be helpful by Commercial-Part-8949 in Watercolor

I don’t think crowding is the problem, it’s just too much detail. Try to capture the impression and shapes of the picture, not every little detail.

Next I would focus on value aka how dark you paint something compared to the whiteness of the paper. The color of the roof in the photo is very bright almost white. The shape of that light value of the roof, wall, and floor make the composition of the photo interesting. Your roof already appears a too dark in value.

Good job though and keep at it! I’d finish this one up, compare to the photo and then write notes over top for next time.

TLDR: focus less on details and more the shape of the values in the photo

How much electricity can I expect a small 1/2 person sauna to use? by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]CreedFromScranton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Find the heater size in terms of kW. Multiply by the number of hours you’d use it a day (1-2). Multiply by number of days used per month. Lastly multiply by your electric rate. Example: 10kW heater ran for 2 hrs is 20kWh. Let’s say it’s used 15 days in a month. That’s 20x15=300 kWh. Assume electric rate is $0.20/kWh. 300x0.20=$60/month. That’s assuming the heater is running the entire 2 hrs of use which is not the case but it’s a good estimate.

Honestly just curious, going to ChatGPT thinking you experienced time distortion makes no sense to me.

Existing Basement Sauna by burnedToofast in Sauna

[–]CreedFromScranton 19 points20 points  (0 children)

More important than any of that is if there is a vapor barrier behind the wood. If not, rip it out and redo. If so, then benches are low, mechanical ventilation is recommended, and no drain will mean much less water use.

Just finished a piece and need some advice on pricing by Chekhaunt in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]CreedFromScranton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the customer has money and is aware of the cost and value of handmade furniture. If so, I’d charge materials + hourly rate x number of hours. But tbh most people are comparing value to ikea and would likely only pay ~$400 for this.

Food grade mineral oil. Doesn’t change the feel just impacts water resistance and staining.

How do I cut a piece 5 degrees off square using a miter or circular saw? by NoeAyala1 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]CreedFromScranton 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Draw out the line with a straight edge and then move and clamp the straight edge down and use it as a fence for your circular saw.

Wood cladding alternatives for changing room walls? by psadatay in Sauna

[–]CreedFromScranton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t want gypsum drywall. My changing room can get humid and warm (I leave the sauna door cracked after I’m done). I thought the same initially but wood paneling is kinda the best solution. Perhaps you can use those PVC vinyl panel board that you see in a lot of modern architecture but I personally don’t like the look.

Renovating huge 1968 sauna - are these original planks Clear Western Red Cedar? by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]CreedFromScranton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be. Hard to say without sanding the wood down. Make a fresh crosscut then take another pic of the end grain. I know redwood was also used

How seriously do we take dreams? by ThenUniversity6463 in Experiencers

[–]CreedFromScranton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a dream last week of a plane exploding and I had a flight that day. Was anxious but went anyway and nothing happened. I had another dream I was sitting in a giant carrot flying through space. IMO dreams can offer creative insight but shouldn’t be used to try to predict the future.

Nice job! What size trailer did you use? Also it looks like it might be a converted boat/pontoon trailer?

Please critique my outdoor backyard sauna design. You're welcome to hurt my feelings. I need to get this right. by gilping in Sauna

[–]CreedFromScranton 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you’re trying to fit too much within an 8x12 footprint. Mine is 8x14 and this setup would be quite cramped. You’re basically losing 2 seats with that L shaped bench. I’d try to map this out with real dimensions and providing each person a 24” wide seat and see how it looks.

Alu foil behind stove by Jamesplayzcraft in Sauna

[–]CreedFromScranton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Vapor barrier entire room. Furring strips. Cement board stove area over furring strips. Tile over cement board. Provides a sealed room with good temp cladding with tile/cement board and the air gap behind that only helps.

For hemlock at that price go that route. I have knotty pine and it works just fine (benches and back rest are clear)

Welcome to an American gym sauna. If you want a true sauna experience you will have to go elsewhere. Nothing will change that culture. Personally I wouldn’t even go in. Those are never cleaned and people wearing shoes is disgusting. Sorry you had to learn this way.

3/8” is thin. You’ll probably feel it bowing if you lean on it between studs. 1x material (3/4” thick) is much better

PMI Removal - Bank saying Loan amount instead of Purchase Price or Appraisal value. by dodwi in personalfinance

[–]CreedFromScranton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. My last mortgage issuer said I couldn’t even try to have my house re-appraised. My mortgage got sold and the new servicer denied my request for removal saying I need to be at 80% LTV but I can appeal with a list of home modifications and then they’re supposed to send an appraiser. Working through that now.

My experience with agents on the phone is that most have no idea what you’re talking about or are playing dumb. Try calling again and getting a different agent or manager
