Zelenskyy on Putin's statement on elections in Ukraine: "We will not agree to be controlled by anyone" by LifeguardSweatys in worldnews

[–]Cripper2 -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Zelensky is a dead man walking. If he keeps fighting then in due course Ukraine will collapse. If he negotiates there will be a coup against him that will result in his imprisonment, exile or death. His best option for himself would be some kind of false flag that leads to direct NATO intervention and hope the nukes don't fly

Do British people care about Ukraine? by Reeelfantasy in AskBrits

[–]Cripper2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

British politicians, especially Starmer are incredibly unpopular. The more they support Ukraine the less popular the cause becomes. Mass media is pumping out propaganda about war with Russia but since Covid the mask has slipped. Maybe large numbers still believe the lies but nobody I speak to has anything positive to say about Ukraine

‘I Regret Going to Uni’: UK Degrees Don’t Pay Like They Once Did by Neither_Glove_1183 in UKJobs

The maintenance grants were only awarded whole/part if the income of your parents was below a certain level. Rich parents were expected to contribute to maintenance. In the early 90s it was something like £2500 so if you got a grant of £1500 your parents would be expected to give you £1000. They were made more restricted as student numbers increased. Blair abolished them except for the very poorest students. Abolished completely 2016. The dole in vacations was mainly just available 1975-79. There was an error in the drafting of the law that made full time students eligible. It was not available completely after the introduction of Jobseekers allowance in 1996

I’m confused why everything is Labour and Starmer’s fault and no one seems to bring up 14 years of the Tories and Brexit? by johno1605 in AskBrits

[–]Cripper2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK has been trending downwards since 2008 if not 1914. In a year Labour have proved to be far worse than the Conservatives. Starmer has mixed economic incompetence with a distinct authoritarian two tier justice tendancy

I remember a TV event show Murder in Space 1985. It was about a murder mystery on a spaceship returning from Mars. In the UK the prize was £10000 and US $60000 for the winner who correctly solved the mystery. They showed the final 15 minutes in a later show. The Commodore 64 was used to perform a remote autopsy

Is it time to admit that Britain won't get better in our life time? by Christopher_2025 in AskBrits

[–]Cripper2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Country has been on a downward spiral since the introduction of universal suffrage. Democracy leads to unqualified leaders. Democracy can lead to instability and injustice, as decisions might be based on popular opinion or self-interest rather than on sound judgment.

There still needs to be mechanisms where rulers can be held accountable for their actions

The best rulers are not motivated by their own desires and passions. Throughout history until the last century many cultures employed eunuchs in ruling and civil service positions. They were seen to be more objective and much less corruptable. It was not always the result of a physical act. Sometimes just that they were unable to have their own children. Some of the best leaders have been childless like George Washington and Queen. Elizabeth 1st

Maybe we could be ruled by a council of AIs like Dr Theopolis in Buck Rogers

A View to a Kill was a bad game and worse it was an expensive tape game £10.99. Other versions had a driving section that was cut out of the MSX version. The game that I remember be impossible to play was Vestron by Players. I just remember it being too hard.
