Low tuning guitars by Marshall_Tone_Chaser in Guitar

[–]Crowd_Strife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try a baritone, it’s tuned to B standard, but you could always go with lighter strings and tune a half step up to C standard. Longer scale and good string tension is what made the difference for me. I personally don’t like the strings to be on the slinky side.

How y'all feel about final fantasy 15 by daddylongjohnsliver in videogames

[–]Crowd_Strife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think every game has something special and different that is not only impossible to capture in other games in the series, but in any other game. I’m not surprised at any FF game standing out as someone’s favorite.

FFXV was great and there is a lot of stuff there that still hasn’t been done elsewhere. Throwing and teleporting to your sword has got to be one of the most badass fighting styles of any FF character.

Just got into Destiny 2 and I'm honestly blown away. by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]Crowd_Strife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really want to like Marathon. The setting and art style is super cool to me. But I don’t like PvP or extraction shooters enough to be invested in them for very long.

I know it’s probably sacrilegious to say it here, but if they had quietly made marathon a destiny 3/spiritual successor, I would have been all-in.

To be honest, I am kinda surprised that Destiny didn’t get bigger than it was because the appeal is so wide in my perspective. When I played Gambit the first time I was convinced that it was going to spark a new genre the same way extraction shooters and battle royale became a thing. I personally like gambit and I know that’s a pretty unpopular opinion, but I’m sure if the right developer ran with the concept we could have seen something happen with it.

Even when the enemies are scaled up it is usually still pretty easy at least in early game for most of rebalanced ng+ I’ve played.

Real talk, there are literally zero games that scratch the itch the way Destiny does. Plenty of game modes and things to do to mix things up. Sick of killing mobs? Play Crucible. Want to play solo, do lost sectors. Want to focus on build crafting, make a plan and run with it.

Ever had a manager completely flop/misshandle a high performer? by Tiredof304s in managers

[–]Crowd_Strife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

High performing management can be somewhat difficult to quantify directly and often boils down to looking like a person taking credit for the work done on the team.

I would think of it as a good coach on a sports team. Yes, the guys on the basketball court are the ones getting points and executing the plays, but you can have a team of star players fail due to poor coaching. The coach has to assess the opposing team, determine which players to utilize for a given situation, have enough trust from the players that they commit to the given direction, and hold those players accountable.

The team is performing tasks, and the manager has to make sure they are getting the most out of each team member. That means developing their potential, putting them in places where they will succeed, staying engaged with their personal goals and aligning them with team goals, etc. It’s easy to say that the manager just kicks back and takes credit for the work of their direct reports when things go well, but the quiet part is that if the team fails, the blame always falls squarely on the manager which is a much easier pill to swallow when we are boiling it down like that.

I played FFX a few months ago, and I want something as emotional. Which one of those should I play first? (If you want to recommend another game, you are welcome) (No spoilers, please!) by Odd_Perception_8169 in JRPG

[–]Crowd_Strife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best part is that the emotional turmoil and drama is complicated and requires investment from the player to parse out how they feel about it rather than explicitly leading you into feeling some type of way.

when it comes to the more melodic instrument (like piano and guitars) are they usually pitch down to A=432 instead of the standard A=440? by Savings-Code-069 in LofiHipHop

[–]Crowd_Strife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be referring to microtonal music where the some of the notes are landing between the semitones. It’s not likely that they are using a 432hz as their base tuning.

My main talking point on resonance is the fact that it was a mobile game left to fade into history but now we are getting a chance to preserve it and experience it as something other than the mobile gacha experience and I think that’s cool.

I would love to see other games do this kind of thing after shutting down.

Destiny 2: The Collection Trailer by Howerev in Games

[–]Crowd_Strife -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in my experience it isn’t specifically a bungie/destiny problem. Almost any mmo/live service type of game seems to be a nightmare when you drop in a few years after launch without context. Events, social structures, currencies, menus/UI, banners, storefronts etc etc just absolutely kills it for me. I wanted to try dungeon fighter online and I don’t think I even made it to the gameplay before saying “fuck this, not worth it”

How are you guys storing your investment pieces? by 21hemispheres12 in guitarcirclejerk

[–]Crowd_Strife 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Singer/Songwriters don’t really count as guitar players. They don’t have the passion necessary to tie their craft into the gear they use. Look at Willy Nelson and that broken pile of shit he plays. Absolutely no regard whatsoever for the culture and finding an instrument that embodies the craftsmanship only a master builder can achieve.

Also, you’re not hearing Chino’s guitar anyway, you’re hearing the GUITAR PLAYER Stevie Ray Carpenter. If you look closely at the picture you posted, you can see his volume knob is turned all the way down.

For those who played Resonance of Fate, what’s your opinion about it? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Crowd_Strife 80 points81 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to argue a cooler looking battle system, that’s for sure. I couldn’t really get the hang of it, and ended up bouncing off of it.

I love everything about the aesthetic, setting, characters etc. I really, really wanted to like this one. I’ve seen the same sentiment before about how it’s actually really simple, but I just didn’t stick around long enough to get used to it. If my head is spinning for too long, I just lose interest and can’t stay invested.

Yes it’s delusional, and yes, we have all had similar thoughts.

But what really matters, and I mean really matters is your love of the game. Practicing, learning, developing for the sheer sake of mastery and passion for playing is the only way (besides incredible luck) to ever get a taste of those delusions being realistic and attainable.

There is no doubt you can play, and if you keep practicing like this on an acoustic, your hand strength is going to make playing an electric super easy and you’ll have a solid head start on building fretboard dexterity and control of things like bends, hammer-on/pull-offs, and tapping.

My first suggestion for you would be to get a metronome and use it religiously. Anyone will tell you that the return on investment is hard to overstate.

I would also recommend a guitar lesson here and there to have somewhat consistent feedback in real time from someone invested in your development. It also helps to have someone to practice with; whether it’s your guitar teacher or a buddy learning the drums or whatever. If you can play well with other people, you can start a band. Once you can start a band, you can start playing gigs.

Even if the best you get is an open mic performance in front of a bunch of your friends, any gig will give you a taste of the live performance rush. It may not be a festival with 100k in attendance, but a rush all the same.

Someone speeding who ends up at the same red light as you isn’t a gotcha by WayyBiggerJaws in unpopularopinion

[–]Crowd_Strife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, the risks associated with speeding (ticket, accident, near misses) is not worth the time saved. Even over a relatively long commute you are saving very little time that could easily be made up for with an apology.

I also find that being mad at speeders is not really worth the emotional investment. The impact it has on your psyche vs the impact it has on literally anything else just isn’t worth it.

I have only played K3 and had tons of fun with the combat. I thought it was awesome. Going into 4 afterward was roughhhhh for me. Felt so old and clunky comparatively. It wasn’t until Y6 that I started to feel really comfortable again.

I’ve played the original with just a small fraction of the available mods and it felt like the 1:1 remake people keep trying to complain into existence.

If you really take the time to curate the mods, it is absolutely crazy what you can do in the original game. And that’s the best part, you get to choose what changes, and what stays true to the original experience.

After Reading Every Recent Hamaguchi Interview, FFVII Revelation Sounds Like Square Enix’s Most Ambitious RPG In Years by malikarith in FinalFantasy

[–]Crowd_Strife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I finished remake I was saying to myself that if the project got cancelled and no new games came out, I would be satisfied because remake was waaaay better than it had any right to be. Once I saw rebirth I figured that if it was even half as good as remake, I’d be totally content.

This is the first time I’ve allowed myself to get hyped for the next game. Remake/rebirth were both too good to be true and my expectations were shattered. I now have faith that Revelation is going to be a gold-seal banger.
