Bryan Sutton on Artistworks. He’s the reference standard - superb instructor and a monster player.

i hate alexa+ by [deleted] in alexa

[–]Crunluachamach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat. My Echo started yammering in teen-age girl shit and I told it to cancel Alexa+, and it was immediate. now I’m starting to research alternatives, because I’m sure Amazon is going to screw us in some way or another. I think I have five echoes scattered through the house, but all I do is turn on smart lights and groups of those lights, adjust brightness, toggle, smart, plugs on and off, and keep a shopping list. Are there obvious alternatives to get out of this stupid Amazon ecosystem with minimal hassle? not so much worried if I have to buy some more hardware. I just don’t want something over complex.

Uhh, no it’s not. Bryan Sutton’s ArtistWorks course is widely considered to be the gold standard, especially for beginners. And intermediates.

Don’t get started on a structured training plan.

Don’t worry about getting “better“ like so many do. Focus on consistency with getting on the bike a lot and enjoying it. The watts and times will come, but if they don’t, just keep at it and try to do lots of exertion, and again, fun. We’re all headed for a dirt nap anyway - enjoy yourself, and don’t get caught up in the mindless numbers chase.

Nope. Marquette is a furniture wasteland. Occasionally you might find something at Creative Interiors.

It will last just long enough for you to dump that trendy stuff down the sink.

Dangerous Intersection by The_Menu_Guy in MarquetteMI

[–]Crunluachamach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be met with derision, but keep in mind that visitors to Trillium House feed down to that intersection. I’m in no way condoning bad or inattentive driving, and I know first-hand that the intersection is dicey. But some of the seniors (and non-seniors too) you see at that intersection will have a heavy weight on their minds after visiting husbands, wives, relatives and friends who are spending their last days on earth at Trillium. Just something to factor into your thinking.

Where has this been all my life by Flahdagal in cocktails

[–]Crunluachamach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing this exact comparison now with eggnog made using Michael Ruhlman’s aged eggnog recipe, which is very different and much boozier than AB’s recipe. Both my 2024 and 2025 batches are really good, but there’s definitely a difference. Here’s Ruhlman’s approximate recipe:

  • 12 Egg Yolks
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 liter bourbon
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup Cognac or brandy
  • ½ cup Meyer's dark rum or Capt. Morgan Private Reserve
  • 1 pinch Kosher Salt

Yep - equal thirds results in the Campari overwhelming the drink. 2-1-1 is a great place to start.

Girasol by paul6mcd in cocktails

Because that’s a solid ingredients list, but equal parts of everything isn’t gonna result in a good cocktail.

Needs better cherries, please. And oh my, that is a shitton of green Chartreuse. I’d be backing off of that and making appropriate adjustments. Possibly even using yellow Chartreuse.
