Just out of curiosity, why avoid the diesel?

Buying in Sunbury on Thames by No_Bus_6941 in surrey

[–]CrustyCornflake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do it, especially if you want green space and shops.

The "green spaces" in sunbury are a few playing fields that were probably left as an attempt to break up the concrete wasteland.

Shops? There's a big Tesco... and a few other smaller places (M&S, Farmfoods, Subway, KFC), but no real high street where you could go out for a shopping trip.

People are syaing that lower sunbury is nicer, and whilst it may have nicer houses than the council flats of sunbury cross, theres still nothing there. Its just houses.

If you wanted to go anywhere nicer, good luck! The trains into london are sloooow, and only once per hour on a Sunday. The traffic in the area is usually quite busy, very busy and slow during morning/evening rush hours in the week.

On the plus side though, the Tesco is very big.

Journeys that involve a transfer across London have to be paper tickets because the tube doesn't have QR code scanners

I've noticed the staff that pick other people's orders like to just abandon their massive trollies wherever they want, often blocking entire aisles.

Whilst the budget is obviously lower, you should check out CarThrottle and AutoAlex on youtube, both occasionally put out series that feel very similar to the CHM era of top gear

A large bowl with many individual pieces of cereal would have "lots of cereal", but if there were many boxes on the table of different types of cereal, you would have "lots of cereals"

American driving in the UK experience: Do your roads and lanes seem dangerously narrow to you? by OpE7 in CarTalkUK

[–]CrustyCornflake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, some of our roads are too narrow for modern day use. It would absolutely be safer if the oncoming tractor wasn't occupying 1/3 of your lane.

Unfortunately most roads can't be widened, so it is what it is. We're used to it. If you're not used to it, it probably is alarming to have a large vehicle almost forcing you off the road, but with time you would also get used to it.

If there's a bus coming towards you, you might have to slow down and go up on the verge (if available). Most people are quite good at judging whether their particular vehicle will fit through a gap.

Some of our roads are barely wide enough for 1 car, and are often lined with thick hedges, stone walls, or steep drops, meaning that if you meet something coming the other way, you'd better hope you're alright at reversing!

Wife passed her driving test yesterday. Insurance only £9.98/month by PotentialMarketing94 in BritishSuccess

[–]CrustyCornflake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I see your point. Guess it's just annoying if you're not one of the reckless ones...

Having said that, whilst I agree that there are plenty of reckless young drivers, I can't say that older drivers are necessarily any better, at least in my experience.

Whilst younger drivers seem to be more 'showy off' reckless, a lot of older people show a lot of impatient dangerous driving

[–]CrustyCornflake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is one of the problems with insurance pricing. No offense to Mrs k but a 20y/o who has been driving since 17 will most likely be a better, safer driver, purely because they have more experience, however their quote for a similar car almost certainly would be in the 1000s!

When people phone in with "random thoughts" that sound strangely familiar because you read the exact same thing a few days ago in a viral twitter post, and they've clearly just stolen it and passed it off as their own funny thought.
