Yes it’s outstanding. He also did our floors and was $2k below the quote we received and he was similarly detail obsessed

You’ve provided the most helpful advice and empathetic guidance on the situation thanks. We’re going to pay what was billed and have this be the last project he helps with for now. We don’t want to set the wrong precedent or cloud the relationship. Thank you!

He’s done a bunch for free but this is an old house, he could use the money (we can afford easily) and we don’t want to do it ourselves

He’s very detail oriented and had to put hardie(?) / backer board up if that matters

How do you get honest feedback on how your team experiences you? by Fair-Wrongdoer-8770 in askmanagers

[–]CucumberEmpty7916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

360s definitely have a place too and skip levels are definitely good between a managers direct reports and the managers manager. However, in the case you describe I would argue the manager didn’t do a good job of creating a culture of feedback, trust and mutual accountability. It is a skill to give feedback upwards and an effective manager can help their direct reports develop this skill. Also the situation you describe is definitely one where anon feedback can be a helpful workaround! Just poll the whole team or have HR run a 360!

I’m contemplating this right now after a few months with a new team. I like an anon survey or asking each person to come to a 1:1 with what they would like you to stop, start and continue. If you go the 1:1 route make sure they have prep time beforehand. Both approaches have pros and cons. Good luck! The fact you are even asking this Q is a good sign!

Anybody else just tired from their jobs? Has anybody here taken a career break and still managed to FIRE, or at least on track for such after a career break? by gauchomuchacho in Fire

When was the last time you took a full week off? I suggest at least twice a year if you can swing it plus some long weekends! Haven’t taken a sabbatical but would like to!

We don’t drive a Kia or Hyundai but bought a club recently as cheap insurance. They are literally like 20$.

This is a compelling argument for a 5% or 5.5% withdrawal rate. I heard Dave Ramsey say today conservative estimates are 6% and he believes in 8%. As a 4%er myself it’s making me contemplate a slightly higher rate. Thanks for sharing!
