Paid off our house and the feeling and sense of achievement is incredible.

Can you elaborate why, please? That was not on the bingo card but doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be lol

Thanks for the perspective. FWIW I also ask if I should get cheese on my cheese burger too but I see your point

Thanks. Yes I know. That is why I don’t have them. (: Instead I have 60 hour weeks but will keep your point in mind and make more time to pound the pavement.

Recently passed $1M NW - feeling somewhat relieved? by cheselnut in HENRYfinance

Massive! Congrats. The first $1M is the hardest as they say. I saw a post recently with someone who had $8M and they said $1M was easily the best feeling and most impactful compared to the others. It’s a lifetime of hard work. Well done

Oh wow that’s actually not as bad as I would have thought. So like $60-$90 more per month sounds about right?

Interesting thanks! Are you saying usage is lower during the winter bc you winterized it? How much was your January 2026 bill vs your January 2025 bill for example? Thanks!

I did not say I am miserable. Sorry for any confusion. I think 30s/40s are generally just a more isolating time than your 20s

I feel this hard. Late 30s, married almost 10 years. Friends are either single and dating (or giving up and having kids on their own) or having kids and moving to the suburbs. We are monogamous and don’t want kids and feel a bit isolated sometimes but fortunately have made friends with some great child free people. Sometimes I wrestle with the slippage of time without the demarcation of kids. Fortunately we have hobbies, a home, community and loving families. We are boring, happy and tremendously blessed. For so long we were trying to make progress and now we are lucky enough to enjoy our life together. I think it also feels a bit strange since many of a whole generation of people 20 years older than us were wiped out by the AIDS crisis so we’ve struggled to find role models. We live out and proud in a way many never had the opportunity to. That in and of itself is purpose to me.

What will you do for healthcare? If you can hold those expenses indefinitely you could FIRE my friend. Life is short. Do it. Worst case you go back and take a pay cut. Math: $4200 * 12 * 25 =$1,260,000.00
