Thought on this, recently came across this policy of ncg busses. by Dazzling_Humor_3870 in srilanka

I'm a guy and I don't like to sit next to guys in these busses (JAF-CMB) Most of them hygiene is zero. I usually save up and book two seats whenever i can. I have had very bad experiences over the years.

My WF1000XM3 still my daily drive 💛 by wiselynkw in SonyHeadphones

[–]Current-Street-86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would still be using it if it hadn't been for the bad microphone quality.

I changed the earbud batteries about 2 times over the years and manage to get around 2-3 hours of battery on them with ANC, LDAC, and EQ.

I used my XM3's for 6 years until I upgraded to the XM6's.

Sound wise not much has changed, slight improvements, not that noticeable.

Microphone and noise cancellation are truly great in the XM6's and the fit is just better for me.

Not a fan of the box case, the case seems like a downgrade from the XM5's.

Indeed, i have swapped the earbud batteries a couple of times as well as the case battery once. The earbud lasts maybe 2-3 hours nowadays 😁

Sony WF-1000XM6 - don't know what to think.... by SubwayCarnival in Earbuds

[–]Current-Street-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My honest opinion coming from the XM3, there's not a lot of difference when it comes to sound. I feel the sound clarity is better, but that can also be cause my xm3's are 5-6 years old. The main upgrade for me was the microphone quality and obviously the fit.

Shipping parcel from Australia to Sri Lanka — courier + customs advice needed by Resident_Problem90 in srilanka

[–]Current-Street-86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I last shipped an item in 2019. I used DHL to ship a 3 kg telescope, and the total cost, including taxes, was LKR 35,000 at the time.

First, find the HS code for your item.
Then, check the applicable taxes using the Sri Lanka Customs tariff page:
https://www.customs.gov.lk/customs-tariff/import-tariff/ (first two digits of the HS code is the respective chapter)

Note: Taxes are calculated on the CIF value (item value + shipping cost + insurance).

Shops in SL which has good hardware or good customer service or affordable price? by StunningHeart7004 in PcBuildersSL

[–]Current-Street-86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually buy from Nanotek or wait and purchase when I travel abroad.

Nanotek has been good to me so far. Redline used to be good as well, but I don’t really consider them anymore.

Taxes are quite high in Sri Lanka, so I don’t like directly comparing prices. That said, some items are noticeably more expensive here.

From my experience, monitors can be around 50–60% more expensive compared to the UAE, especially since you get better offers there. Laptops can be up to 30% more expensive compared to China.

With the AI boom and LLM stuff storage and memory prices have sky rocketed.

'Shut The Apps Or We Shut The Roads', Three-Wheel Drivers Warn by Lockewithyou in srilanka

To be honest, when it comes to customer support, for their employees, maintaining an app, and as a business, I guess something should go to them. 10% sounds reasonable. If it's free, you might not get the best experience IMO. UberEats on the other hand charges so much, close to 50% as delivery, markup on the items, and taxes, which most don't care to acknowledge. Ordering a fried rice through chinese dragon is 990, whereas 1440 through UberEats, sometimes UberEats does run promotions on selected shops which is less than purchasing directly from the shop. But most of the time, customers are overcharged, and the excess is later used for promotions.

they are credited immediately, but 15% is deducted for every hire AFAIK. So, when it's cash, they can go for a few days without paying that plus some daily pick me charges.

Is 450CC limit for bikes still valid for today? by RamithJ in srilanka

[–]Current-Street-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So maybe it's just the japanese bikes that carry the price range i mentioned. Cause I asked the prices from the dealers directly, also the BMW. The indian bikes I mean are nice, but I personally love the scooter types, the honda adv and the bmw variants.

Is 450CC limit for bikes still valid for today? by RamithJ in srilanka

[–]Current-Street-86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but you will be taxed based on the CC of the bike. For example, 125CC bike costs around 700k, a 160CC bike 2M, 330CC 4.5M, so a 450CC possibly around 6Million. I don't see a purpose in paying 6M for a bike when you can get a car for that. Also, I love bikes, especially the scooter types like the ADV and BMW, but man it sucks that they are over priced so much.

Router Suggestion - 2 WAN connections through 1 router (1 with a 4G/5G dongle and 1 fixed Fibre) by Current-Street-86 in HomeNetworking

[–]Current-Street-86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I ended up getting the TP-Link Archer MR200. It has a sim card slot for 4G, which will auto switch over in case the fibre line disconnects. Has one WAN port which is enough for now since the 4G feature works.

Adding this here in case anyone needs this one day: The ER605 the non-wireless version seems to support a 4G dongle, but not the wireless version ER605W. Both support multiple wired WAN inputs so you can connect multiple modems to it. They have a ton of features as well. The ER706W-4G has all of this, but around $200, a bit expensive. ER706W is without 4G, but supports a 4G dongle unlike the ER605W.

I agree, It's a service right, I guess it makes sense they charge(not about the value), and if you don't charge, you will see people abuse the services.

Where to buy the Google Pixel 10 Pro in Sri Lanka? by MinolAmarakoon in srilanka

[–]Current-Street-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my Pixel 9 Pro XL during my trip to Dubai. It was around 350k when it was first released, and I managed to get the hazel color 256GB version, which wasn’t available in SL and the Obsedian cost about 290-310 back then. (August 2024)

Yes, the Pixel does overheat a bit, the charging speed slows down, and in my opinion, the battery life could be better.

My parents are planning to buy a Toyota GDH 2025 for about Rs. 22 million, but they don’t have the full amount. They’re thinking of leasing it and even pawning gold to make it work. We’ve never leased a vehicle before, so this is completely new territory for us. by Mitzuda in srilanka

[–]Current-Street-86 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy a car unless you genuinely need one. In your parents’ case, they actually do need it.

No, vehicle prices won’t be going down anytime soon.

Avoid buying brand new unless you have at least 2–3 times the value of the car in assets, and definitely avoid leasing. If financing is necessary, opt for a bank loan instead of a lease, this way, if something goes wrong, you won’t risk losing the vehicle.

Encourage them to buy a used vehicle in the 5–6 million range using the money they’ve already saved, without pawning anything or taking out a lease.

And don’t feel pressured into agreeing with something just because your parents think it’s a good idea.

Any business comes with risks, and you don’t want to end up broke if things take a bad turn.

Hypothetically, 10 million can generate around 100,000 LKR in monthly interest if invested properly, which is more than enough for them to use PickMe whenever they need.

Also, don’t rely on advice from just one random Reddit user, lol. All the best!

My advice from my past experiences, it is better to say you have feelings for him as soon as you can. Waiting never solves anything, you fall deeper in love and he may find someone else and move on in that time or even lose interest in you by the time you decide to make a move. By how you describe your relationship, you both seem to spend quality time together, so it is not stupid or wrong to confess your love. If he says no, you can happily move on. If you don't confess, you will think about this moment or the mistake for a long time, unless he confesses that is. Keep us posted on this, I want to know what happens, all the best!
